  1. Hello again.

Well I got them but didn't have a lot of time to mess with them last night. I host a Zombies board game event each week at a local Comic Book shop, but that's another story.

    What I got:

    A2000

A1000 (both have mice and keyboards. Very little yellowing, and the cases are clean.)

2 external floppy drives. One Supra and the other is a standard Commodore drive.

    Amiga 1084S monitor.

External SCSI controller for the A1000.

Home brew hard drive case for the A1000.

    Misc cables, disks, and manuals.

I did fire up the A2000, it came up fine after 10+ years of sitting in the basement. Unfortunately the 1084S has issues, the monitor turns on fine but no display. When I push the mode button on the front I can briefly see the desktop. Will take apart, discharge and see if I can clean it up. For now I have a 1080 that I used for my old Nintendo consoles, it has a new purpose now. LOL. Before powering up the A2000 I took a peek under the hood. I found a SCSI card with a 60MB drive, and a memory card. The memory card has one row populated, I think there are four banks in total. Also there is a Supra Turbo 28 accelerator card, bumps the speed to 28Mhz. Not sure of the Kick ROM version, but Workbench 2.0 is loaded. The hard drive is segmented into three partitions, and has a lot of programs loaded. Looks to have 512K RAM on the MB and 4MB on the memory card. Total memory looks to be 5MB as reported on Workbench. I wanted to get SYSinfo on it to see what exactly is in her, but even though CrossDOS is loaded there are no drivers to read MS-DOS disks. So I'll have to find another way to get programs into her.

Next I want to fire up the A1000 and see what's on it's hard drive!

I'll post pics when I get a few minutes this weekend. My plan for the A2000 is to clean it up real good and check\replace the clock battery, beef it up a bit, and add a CD-ROM. This is going to be fun! Think I'll add it to my Ham Shack, don't want it soley for a "game machine". The Amiga is SO much more.

I have used both a A500 and a A1200 in the past and I speak fluent Commodore 64\128, but my knowledge is limited with the Amiga. Any tips will be very welcome.

    Dan

  2. Woo Hoo!

After work today I'm picking up an Amiga 1000 and a Amiga 2000. Not sure of condition, options, extras, etc.

Just happy to get these bad boys and get them up and running again. :D

Will post details after I get them to their new home.

  3. OK, I had a decent trip to the Goodwill "surplus" store, but like usual it was a circus. All sorts of oddballs rooting through big bins of dirty jumbled junk. It looks like a school of pirahnas when they bring out new bins from the back, but this time I jumped in and started digging....

These three were $1 ea (all cd / dvd are $1):

    PS2 - Warhawk

    PS2 - Spyro 2

    Dreamcast - NFL2k Complete

This stuff was $1.59 a pound for a total $6.51 for all:

    NES - Metroid (nice condition)

    PS1 controller (nice)

    PS1 Spongebob controller

    Genesis controller 3 button

    Playstation RF switch

    Playstation RCA av cable

    Surge protector strip (nice one)

Light bulb for the wife's fish tank hood

super sweet RCA brand RF modulator (RCA in RF out w/ channel 3/4 switch)

SomeGuy beat me to a few other Dreamcast games, one of which was Nights :(

    Morgan

    Nice haul!.

We have a Goodwill® store here exactly like that one. We refer to it as the "Pick-n-Pull".

Reminds me of the bar scene from Star Wars®. Some of the "humans" will kill to get at that one item that will sell for a million dollars on e-Bay® and release them from their pathetic life. :ponder:

  4. This is very common for a lot of plastic from the late 80's to early 90's.

A lot of Commodore 64\128, Amiga, and other computers suffer from the same yellowing.

Aside from aesthetics, there is nothing "dirty" about them. I think some people equate this with yellowing from being used by heavy smokers.

No, I know that. It just looks like piss. It's probably my #1 unfortunate side effect to collecting. For me, there is nothing desirable about a nicely yellowed SNES, NES, Atari 800, 1080, Apple //c... (A close #2 is defective product, but at least you can keep it for parts)

Good point. I'm the same way to a degree. My old trusty SNES was badly yellowed but ran 100% and I played the hell out of it. It got replaced by one that looks as if it just came out of the box.

  5. But you have to be aware there are 2 different versions (internally) of the SNES when swapping case bottoms. I don't remember how to tell at the moment....

4- vs. 2- rubber feet on the bottom.

I hate the yellowing. So gross.

You do realize that the yellow SNESs have nothing to do with how dirty they are, right? It's just the crappy plastic that they used is breaking down. I'll bet that there are unopened units in boxes that are yellow today.icon_frown.gif

  6. I found a top loader at a garage sale about a month ago. It came with a Racermate II cart, the interface thing that plugs into the controller ports, and a Racermate sticker. Unfortunately it only came with standard NES controllers.

I gotta say, I was indifferent about the top loader before but it's kinda nice. My only gripe is the RF-only output. I guess that's where a mod comes in but I don't like cutting anything unless I have a spare. :)

Nice score. I've found the SNES top loaders in the wild but so far never an NES one.

I'm a purest when it comes to modding. I like to keep mine original.

But I do love some of the case mods, and wild things people do. Might give that a try sometime.

  7. So I finally scored a near perfect Nintendo NES-101 "Top Loader" last night from a local dealer!

I love wheeling and dealing. :) Works great, all I need is a pair of the original dog bone controllers, came with a standard one.

This makes my Nintendo collection (except for a couple of the colored N64's) complete.

Gratz! I got mine a while back, not in perfect condition though. It looks like someone laid a soldering iron on one part and the plastic is a little melted there. I got it when my front loader went kaput. (I thought it was the pin connector so I ordered a new one, while waiting for the parts to arrive, the cat pissed on it. Cleaned it up as best as I could and replaced the connector but still didn't work.) My Nintendo collection is far from what you may consider complete though. I still don't have all the handhelds, game and watches, foreign systems or other variations on systems (like the colored 64's), but I'm pretty happy.

    Thanks.

I've had cats chew up cords but never piss on one yet.

My collection is no where near complete if you factor in the watches, foreign units, and hand helds.

Mine is mostly the consoles and most of the hand helds. I don't have the more recent ones but it's all a matter of time. :)

I'm not the "NRFB" collector, all my games are setup to be played with. I don't have room for box collecting.

Also I love the reaction from my kids friends when they see my collection for the first time. Priceless!

Funny thing, with all the Playstations, X-boxes, and Wii systems, they almost always pop in either Mario Cart 64, or Mario Party. :D

  9. Tried again a bit more today, not much better

Pac-Man (Atari 2600) $0.50 I know its not a great port, but I have just got my 2600 recently so....

    Defender (Atari 2600) $0.50 :3

    Combat (Atari 2600) $0.50 :3

Gremlins 2 (NES) $3 I expected this to suck, oddly it did not.

Nice, to me it's the thrill of the hunt. Don't matter if it's an ultra rare or an everyday common.

    Good hunting and have fun!

  10. Hello all,

Great weekend for fun, not so great for treasure finds. :)

    Did find the following:

    A2600 Backgammon $1.99

    A7800 Super Huey! $2.70

    A7800 Winter Games $2.70

    NES Breakthru $1.99

    NES Guerrilla War $1.99

PS One dual shock controller $2.00

First gen Genny with Knuckles Chaotic $5.00 (OK, that was pretty good)

Also found Redneck Rampage for the PC for $1.99. Loaded up DosBox and it plays great, forgot how much fun that game was.

  11. Not a thrift find, but a co-worker who knows I collect video game "stuff" brought this into work this morning and gave it to me.

    gamestuff.jpg

Also included was a blue controller, and two basic 8K memory cards, one was EA Sports branded.

LOVE the cow controller!!! I wonder if that was aimed at a certain games audience or what. Did they make Harvest Moon for PS2?? Morgan

Nope. The controller is for a PS1. I would like to know myself why it's like that. Could be just an aftermarket gimmick.

At any rate, it's now my favorite! :)

  12. Hello all,

Hit a couple of stores and a local flea this weekend.

Duke Nukem: Time to Kill, PS1 $2.00

Coleco Gemini complete sans box. Traded for a NES Power Set.

Boxed Star Raiders with pad sans the overlay. $4.95

    Jinx, 7800 $1.99

I added three more "letters" to the Atari 2600 collection:

    N = Night Driver, $1.99

    O = Outlaw, $1.99

    Q = Q*Bert, boxed $2.99

    Only need U and X!

Nicest find was a complete and working NES Satellite wireless adaptor.

    $8.00

  13. Start soapbox;

I have no problem what so ever killing characters in video games. I'm a well adjusted human and in no way correlate what happens in video games with real life. I have never wanted to kill "real" people and have no desensitized feelings towards my fellow humans. If you have issues with video games then you need to stay away from them and talk to your doctor. I'm 48 and grew up watching cartoons that were very violent by today's neutered society standards and at no time in my youth felt compelled to drop an anvil on anyone.

As for kids, that depends on their maturity level, I have three wonderful kids (now young adults) and they grew up playing video games. I would not let them play violent games when they were young. There are plenty of games for young minds that are not violent.

IMHO people need to stop watching Dr. Phil and The View and get a grip.

    End soapbox; return

  14. Hello everyone.

I went to one of the local used game stores today to achieve my personal goal of 100 2600 games.

Took my list of 85 games and spent 20 minutes digging through the .99 bin. Not only did I get to 100, I got all the Realsports series, and got a new "letter" in my second quest to get at least one game for each letter of the alphabet! ;)

    Dan

Now that you are over 100, what letters are you missing? I had to break down and buy the last couple (Up'n Down and Xenophobe) and I was over 250 unique titles for the 2600. And I just recently got 3 of the Realsports series! I still have quite a bit of commons missing. I could probalby get to 300 without a ton of cash with the right donor collector! I REALLY try to get instructions I have 261 games and 186 instructions, maybe 150 or so match up.

As of today I need N, O, Q, U, and X. Should not be hard to get. I'm hitting some of the local stores tomorrow to see what I can find. If there are certain commons you are looking for let me know, I can usually find 2600 commons cheap!

We have a couple of local stores that really support the old systems and serious\semi-serious collectors.

I seem to be a bit ADD when it comes to collecting, I switch from system to system, last time it was the NES, then I hit a bag full of 2600 carts so now I'm fixated on them. LOL
