  1. Not sure if its sad or funny. I mean don't most of us own all of them anyway. You gotta love those FNET pissing contests... Or maybe not...
  2. I keep seeing the "average" person in 90-91 could do this or that. Which 1990 did you live in? Unless you lived in Silicon Valley, the "average" person was still very green on computers and some were still downright afraid of them.
  3. Really guys, enough of this 8-bit vs ST vs Amiga. Let's get right down to the nitty gritty. The Apple II is clearly superior to the Macintosh and don't even get me started on how the Timex Sinclair kicks all sorts of major arse on the C64. As you were..
  4. Does anyone know of an archive for ST-Log disks? It appears this is the one magazine that is not well represented online as far as the software goes.
  5. The ST disk drives have been more reliable in my experience compared to the Amiga (at least the early models). The failure rate of my Amiga disks is at least double that or my ST floppies. For the record, both are the same brand of media stored in the same closet. If you watch the Computer Chronicles episode for the ST, Jim Kent actually references this as a problem he had with the Amiga. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnyAVOuEZGg
  6. First, please keep your very immature comments to yourself. Second, I don't think so. The original can't be matched, and it would be unfair to compare the two considering the different hardware in the 2 computer lines. However, I got to say, the programmers did a pretty darn good job on the XL/XE version too. Nice! Its true.. The ST version is clearly inferior.. But, since its being run on clearly inferior hardware, that's not surprising.. The 8-bit ATARI is far superior to the ST in every possible way.. If you don't like my opinions, feel free to ignore me.. Or better yet, go browse the ST forums.... You know what they say about opinions.
  7. Very nice design. It resembles an 800XL plugged into a Colecovision. Much better than what Coleco eventually released as the Adam.
  8. As a working tech, I can tell you that there are many people I work with who had a Vic-20 as their first computer. Yes, they considered it a stepping stone, but not useless and a doorstop. There are also many people who had Atari's and Apple's and one guy who had an Adam (which I now own thanx to him!). Personally, I find the unholy mix and swapping of Atari/Commodore people and technology incredibly interesting. Now I understand what people find interesting in soap operas... :-) desiv Atari and Commodore really shared the same brain at times. Or lack there of. How many different computer companies were in existence in the 70s/80s? It's mind boggling to think of the sheer scope of bad management that caused each of those companies to go under.
  9. You should pick one up. Centipede and Missile Command alone are the very reasons to own one.
  10. Maybe that was the real reason for Coleco's demise. Storage space for all of those returned Adam boxes..
  11. Here is a pretty good Donkey Kong clone that is for monochrome systems. monkey_business_mono.zip
  12. I was going to install 7 today. Have you tried the XP compatibility option?
  13. A quick search came up with this website that has Lode Runner clones available for a variety of platforms. http://lodedome.no-ip.com/lodedome.php They have the 8-bit and ST grouped together. There are 3 available for the ST. I know there were others.
  14. There were several Lode Runner clones for the ST. Ask your friend if it was color or mono. I believe a fair share were monochrome and probably German in origin. When I get home later I will check my disks and get back to you.
  15. I would like to echo the thanks for your work on the 8-bit as well as the ST.
  16. Looking forward to it and the book you are working on.
  17. I found him a while back, the site listed all his ST stuff. Tried to contact him to see if he'd give it all to public domain or whatever, but I never got a reply. I emailed Dave a while ago just to let him know how much I enjoyed playing his games. He mentioned that he had all of his games on his STE hard drive and would eventually release them. I would love to get the registered version of Kid Kong with Mario as the character you controlled.
  18. I think he would have better luck with a price of £149.99 and maybe throw in a Ginsu knife.
  19. This had better be as good as the book.
  20. Remember that not all 8-Bit disks auto boot. The program you are trying to load may need to be loaded from DOS first.
  21. Wow. Thanks DarkLord and Alison. That's a great prize.
