  1. That's funny, but I bet you scared the hell out of your neighbors when it printed that thing. :D

It sounded like a gang war going on...

Tap Tap Tap Tap (pause) Tap Tap Tap Tap (pause) Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap (pause), etc.

    That thing was LOUD!

    Tempest

LOL. I think I actually jumped when I first printed something out on the Adam. :ponder:

  2. So Tempest and I had a friendly game of Jeopardy on the ADAM today. To nobody's surprise I won, and I was asked by the ADAM if I would like to get my prize. So obviously, I said hell yes! This is what I got:

  3. Glenn's name creeps up from time to time on topics. His name sure did get around. I want to know all of the conversions that he made. Here is a list that I tossed together. I put question marks next to the games I'm not sure of.

    Battlezone (?)

    Blue Print

    Centipede

    Counter Measure (?)

    Crystal Castles (?)

    Dig Dug

    Football

    Gremlins

    Jr. Pac-Man (?)

    Mario Bros.

    Pac-Man (?)

    Qix

    Space Dungeon

    Super Pac-man

    Vanguard

    Xevious

Am I missing any games? I think that it would be neat to make an ATR with all of his converted games. Has anyone made a 5200-to-8-Bit conversion ATR already?

    Adam

I remember 5200 Soccer was another one.

    tjb

Actually all of the Real Sports games were converted.

  4. Nice finds! Do you put these in your collection or list them on Chuckwagon? You should list all your finds on CTCW, not only would you make a few bucks but it would increase the traffic :)

Ya, I've been doing this swap meet thing for years and when I started the Chuck most of the items that were put up were my swap meet finds. And I've done it ever since. So yes, some of this stuff will be listed today. I am really torn on the Dark Tower though. Been wanted one but $150 or so on Ebay. I picked this one up for $4 :)

I had the Snoopy radio when I was little and haven't seen one since. This is like new in the box :) And works from 1974.

You need to keep them both. You'll never find another Dark Tower for 4 bucks.

  5. Nope. Closed a year and a half ago. FYE was the owner and they went out of business. That was the last decent arcade in Suffolk County. The mall lost so much business after that, that some of the stores started closing and ever since the mall has slowly died.

Galaxy Games and The Fun Factory.

  6. I thought you needed a special proprietary cable for the Atari ST Monitor, can the Mega ST2 use that same monitor cable as the ST? How would you tie on a regular VGA monitor?

Does the Mega have an internal HD? If not is there any way to add one? I have a ton of old SCSI drives laying around

You can use all of the ST accessories with the Mega series. Below is a link to the Atari Magazines Start article on the MegaST. It has all of the specs and even a motherboard layout for you to look at.

  7. I can't even believe it. On ebay no less, $42, I shit you not. Every time I watch them they get bid up to over $100. Can't wait until it arrives. Any recommendations, suggestions for games as well as care & feeding?

First off, congrats on the pickup. That is a pretty sweet deal. The first thing I would get is a color and or monochrome monitor as the Mega does not have RF. Which version of TOS is installed?

  8. In a recent lot of ADAM stuff I got, I found a mail-order computer software/hardware catalog; mostly consisting of the ADAM, ATARI ST, and one of the Amigas I believe. There are something like 11 or 12 pages of ADAM software listed by publisher/manufacturer, then alphabetical by title with descriptions, and DP and/or D notations indicating wether it was available in Data Pack and/or Disk form. I've been meaning to scan it for archive purposes, just haven't had a chance yet. But these 11-12 pages show more commercial software than I ever knew was available for the ADAM.

Would you be talking about the MW Ruth catalog? I have one around here somewhere.

  9. Note: This is not an April's Fools joke.

I got my VIC-20 Mega-Cart today and it's awesome! Here are some very poor (sorry) photos:

    PqOHy7r.jpg gxrA370.jpg PqOHFBS.jpg

They're going to be shipped out as they're made in the order that the pre-orders were received so if you're interested in getting one I would encourage you to place an order as soon as possible. You won't be asked to make payment until your Mega-Cart is ready to ship so there won't be any complications. You can find out more at the Mega-Cart website.

Wow. I guess I need to get a Vic-20 now. Is the www site still up? It currently is not working.

  10. I have a stack of old TI-99/4a disks that I got in an auction long ago and I'd love to take a look at whats on them. The problem is, I have no idea how! I have a PEB with a disk drive, 32K of memory, and both an Extended Basic and Disk Manager (I and II) cartridge. I know the drive works because I've boot a disk directly by having it in the drive when I start Extended Basic (turns out it was Disk Manager IV), but I cant figure out how to load the other disks or even how to tell what's on them. Can someone give me some commands to try?

    Hopefully this helps.

  11. A minute ago the AA homepage showed me this part of trivia:
It is rumored that Coleco intentionally crippled their games for other systems in order to make their own system look better.

What immediately came to my mind was: Not only Coleco did that.

In fact, I think even Atari did it. Do you know the C64 version of Galaxian? Compare it to the Atari-8bit-version... The C64 version looks and sounds like crap, and it doesn't play nearly as well as the Atari 8-bit version. Yeah, Atari made both versions. I think that's very suspicious, as the possibilites of both machines are very comparable, but the C64 version is FAR inferior.

    Do you agree?

Perhaps this thread can be used to collect some more examples of this "marketing trick"... ;)

I hope this is the right board, couldn't figure any place where this thread would fit better...

Funny that you would think that because I used to think that the Atarisoft games were too good. I think with very few exceptions (if any) that they were pretty outstanding. The Vic20 ports immediately come to mind.

  12. I am starting a business soon and need some capital... so I am sadly going to have to sell off most of my collection. On the positive side if my business does well I may buy everything back one day.

If anyone has any questions or like a better pic or a pic from a different angle let me know.

In the next couple days I will also be doing an interest check on a couple other things, 2600 collection with 250-300 games (its been a long time since I last counted). Supercharger, game selector thingy, game cases, trackball, Game holders & cases, a crap ton of different controllers, also my NES collection of the system and 90+ games, my Sega Collection, etc.

So, for my first post I would like to see what kind of interest there is in a couple things.

    First, my 2600 kiosk:

Works great, right paddle is a little fidgety but that can be fix with a little cleaner. Once I sprayed cleaner on the left paddle it worked like new.

It is complete down to the game labels on the shelf. It is not in pristine condition but good condition. I bought it from someone who bought if from someone who had it stored in a storage unit for many years. Here is the story:

    http://www.atariage.com/2600/archives/atar...l?SystemID=2600

The story & pics are of the same kiosk I am selling. I just cleaned it up a little. It is easily disassembled

It's probably the coolest thing I own. It is pretty cool to be able to flip a switch, have the Atari sign light up and have 42 games to flip through. :_( :_(

Good luck on the sale and the business.

  13. Anyone possibly interested in buying a fully-loaded (almost) Falcon030? It's got 14 MB of RAM and a 2 GB HD (partitioned at 1 GB right now). Includes mouse and Falcon to VGA monitor adapter. No accelerator or FPU. Looking for $450 shipped, to the US only. I really don't want to part with it, but I'm in a bind and need $$$ fast.

    Awwww....

I hope you manage to raise cash in other ways than selling your Falcon... Could be something you will regretting after you part with it.

In my experience when you sell something like that you always end up spending more to reacquire it. Glad to see that you don't need to sell it!

  14. I wouldn't say that Donkey Kong and Zaxxon were the only popular ones - Defender is one along with Galaxian, Frogger, Mouse Trap, Carnival, Turbo and Burger Time. There are others, but I don't want to waste the bandwidth.

I wasn't clear in my post, but I meant at launch when it had all the buzz. Didn't Defender, Galaxian, Turbo, and so on come out later? Carnival was there at the beginning, but I don't recall it being very popular at the arcade. Could be wrong though.

Collect 'em all seems to be the best policy. :)

Carnival wasn't a sexy video game in its day but I suspect it may have done "alright." Does anyone have records of how these games did, financially, whether it was in the arcade or the home console? I have seen bits here and there of how many cabinets of game X were produced in a given year but that's about it.

Collect 'em all is the best way to go.

Coleco did have a knack at licensing games that you may not have heard of at the time, but were pretty solid games like Carnival or Mouse Trap.

  15. Somewhat to backtrack on myself though... I think Albert blew an opportunity to escalate the joke. When word got out 4/1 that the ROM appeared to be a bad dump, and Underball asked if it had already been shipped back, Albert should have said

"Oh snap! It IS a bad dump, and I already sent it back!"

Then later PMP should have posted under his alias

"Hey guys I got a great offer for the proto, but the buyer doesn't want it dumped. Sorry, but it's an offer I can't turn down."

And let that simmer for a while. :D

    Good idea, too bad. :)

Will do that for next year!

    ..Al

I can't understand how anyone could be upset over this? Looking forward to next year Al.
