I wasn't clear in my post, but I meant at launch when it had all the buzz. Didn't Defender, Galaxian, Turbo, and so on come out later? Carnival was there at the beginning, but I don't recall it being very popular at the arcade. Could be wrong though. Collect 'em all seems to be the best policy. Carnival wasn't a sexy video game in its day but I suspect it may have done "alright." Does anyone have records of how these games did, financially, whether it was in the arcade or the home console? I have seen bits here and there of how many cabinets of game X were produced in a given year but that's about it. Collect 'em all is the best way to go. Coleco did have a knack at licensing games that you may not have heard of at the time, but were pretty solid games like Carnival or Mouse Trap.

I was not amused at the Pac Man JR 7800 april fools joke

Good idea, too bad. Will do that for next year! ..Al I can't understand how anyone could be upset over this? Looking forward to next year Al. -
Battlezone and Red Baron are 2 of my favorite games. Good luck with the restoration.

I would definitely keep the PS1. There are more than a few games that will not run on a PS2.

IMO this is your best bet. I have one and I can't say enough good things about it. http://www.atarimax.com/sio2pc/documentation/

I wonder more about what happened to the break Stephen wanted to take. Yes, I wonder about the same thing ... Your work is appreciated Stephen. Thanks!

PCs can read disks formatted on the ST (but not always vice versa before TOS 1.4 machines right?) So I guess you just format a disk on the ST and write to it from your PC and pop the disk back in your ST and double click the .PRG file. (someone will surely point out if I am wrong but hell what have you got to lose and it probably does work like that) You can use DC Format on the ST to write a DOS boot sector to a disk and have it readable on the PC.

You are going to want to use a monitor with the ST. I don't think you could get that on ebay for that price. Especially when you factor in shipping.

Holy shit $3,000 for 4 homebrews

Steinbrenner's son bought some Atari gatefold games from me. He mostly collects toys from the 70's. I haven't seen him buy any Intellivision games. He got these from Arod's cousin. -
I second the PS2 recommendation. Get the 4 player adapter you won't regret it.

Exactly! I've always thought the Marathon series (forerunner to Halo) was the best FPS from that era, but how can you hate Doom? I'm sure you guys probably know this already, but just in case you didn't. The Marathon trilogy has been released by Bungie. http://source.bungie.org/ http://source.bungie.org/get/

The Halcyon - The REAL Holy Grail of gaming!
TwiliteZoner replied to Zap!'s topic in Classic Console Discussion
Laserdiscs were awesome. Well before DVD that is. And contrary to popular belief, they lasted well into the late 90s. -
Caverns of Mars for the 800. I still have it.
-
The source ports are pretty good. If you have Doom 3 you need to check out the Classic Doom mod for it.

Best home version of Donkey Kong?
TwiliteZoner replied to Ransom's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hi Chaz. I have to agree the Coco 3 version is the best ever done. No matter if it said "Had". The only version that comes close is the Amstrad CPC version. It had the colors nearly right and the graphics came very close. The Coco 3 version is not being emulated. It was translated into coco 3 coding. Sock mimicked the Z80 registers by using coco 3 registers that could emulate those functions. And those registers are not 100% the same in features. For it to be emulated the coco 3 would need more registers that are nearly 100% the same and have a CPU that is 10 times faster. And as for the sound effects and music score not bad for a computer with no dedicated sound chip onboard. So what is my point. 1. Soon we will be seeing a poll on what Sinnistar version is the best port. Considering a officially licensed version was never finished and produced for the Atari 7800 etc. But I bet users will still try and class it as a port. 2. It don't matter if it Had in its day a port or its only been done 15-20 years later its still a version of the original no matter what. As it loads up and plays on the computer in question. 3. I thought this My computer is better then yours died years ago. We are now old time users who wish to see new or old stuff being found. that's it. And as for my prefered systems. I have always liked the Atari ST and Coco 3. because both used a form of OS called OS-9. And I have a soft spot for the Vic-20 it was my 1st computer. laters Briza The Coco3 version is a pretty amazing piece of coding. John's stuff is always top notch. Although it is not for a stock Coco3. I think a better comparsion for this poll would be Donkey King for the Color Computer. http://nitros9.lcurtisboyle.com/donkeyking.html -
Best home version of Donkey Kong?
TwiliteZoner replied to Ransom's topic in Classic Console Discussion
First off, all of the versions in the poll are worthy ports of the game, but for my money, the Atari 8bit ranks above the others because of the gameplay. No other version comes close in terms of speed. Another thing to remember about the Atari version is that it was a 16k cartridge. As much as I love the C64 and Colecovision/Adam versions of Donkey Kong the gameplay is incredibly slow in comparison. I think the best endorsement I can think of is back in 83 when my friend Jeff with the Colecovision would come down to my house to play Donkey Kong on my 800. -
He did mention that it was in some stuff marked Leonard Tramiel.
-
Thanks as always Curt! Was that the original label on the disk? Maybe Leonard tried to load cloak with the load"cloak",8,1 command

Whats a fair price fo a Mega ST4?
TwiliteZoner replied to Squid Inc.'s topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Maybe that much for a MegaSTe, not for a regular Mega. Right I bought a Mega 4 STE new in box on ebay for $125, and a used one before that for $150. Im using the one for $150 to rub my BBS. Telnet://stguild-bbs.dyndns.org Wow. Everytime I search on ebay they are nowhere near that price range. I guess timing is everything. -
The Wii shop surprise comming soon is c64
TwiliteZoner replied to 8th lutz's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Does it matter? It does if the game doesn't work at later stages. I guess it makes a good argument for emulation as a way to preserve these games (disk images) if companies are unable to use original code and have to resort to removing the intros of cracked copies. -

Has anyone heard if the C64 games on the Wii are originals or cracked copies like the DTV? -
Memorex used to be good, now they are CMC Magnetics crap. I had a bad experience years ago with Memorex and have since used Verbatim or TDK with no issues.
-
Has anyone had issues running the emulator on a multi-core system. It seems to act up when in fullscreen mode. I don't have this issue on other machines.
-
i never even gave the TI99 a look..even in the 80's i had a coco, vic 20,c64 and atari 800xl and passed up the TI but when i saw your message i thought maybe i would get an emulator and finally check out some of the games and i gotta say they are A LOT better than i thought they were!...i mean pac man, donkey kong and popeye are excellent and it looks like the system had much better graphics than i ever gave it credit for You should definitely get into a rig, then! They're pretty inexpensive when you find them, I got two computers and a boxload of games for about $45 (before shipping) and there were a lot of the manuals and things, too. There are a lot of upgrades you can do to it, like ram, sound outputs, a whole bunch of stuff. There's even an Atari joystick adapter so you can use the tried and true CX-40. Nathan Great point Nathan regarding using an Atari joystick. Try playing Donkey Kong for an extended period of time with one of the TI joysticks.

Atari Legend is in progress of migrating to another hosting company, but it seems to be a bumpy road that leads there. The site will be back at some point, I don't know when though... Thanks for the update. I know a lot of people have been wondering the status of the site.
