I just read a post here recently where someone said you have to use a small screwdriver (carefully) and the small cover will pop off, but you will have to glue it back on.

Same here. I didn't know about the crash until years later. That could explain why my Mother bought me an Intellivision. Maybe it was only $69. lol

Not sure if this is what your looking for. But this is taken from the IntellivisionLives website. There's more of it here. http://www.intellivisiongames.com/history.php 1982 Video game industry valued at $1.5 billion. Mattel Electronics announces profits of over $100 million, with Intellivisions in over 2 million homes. Most popular Intellivision games sell over a million cartridges each. Companies publishing Atari 2600 cartridges, including Activision and Imagic, start releasing games for the Intellivision system, too. Total Intellivision titles available climbs to over 50. Mattel Electronics releases Intellivoice module and three voice games; raises ad budget for year to over $20 million. Computer keyboard released in limited test markets at $600; general release is repeatedly delayed. Mattel game development staff hits 100. TV Guide magazine, in an article about Intellivision, dubs the developers "The Blue Sky Rangers." The name sticks. Higher-resolution ColecoVision video game system hits market with popular arcade game titles, taking sales away from Intellivision and Atari. While Christmas season for industry is strong overall, there are not enough sales to go around for all of the companies now in the market. 1983 Classic brown-and-woodgrain Intellivision console is replaced by cheaper ($150) light gray Intellivision II. Computer keyboard component is officially cancelled in favor of cheaper, less powerful Entertainment Computer System (ECS). System Changer module is released, allowing Atari 2600 cartridges to be played on an Intellivision II console. Marketing campaign now pushes Intellivision as the system that plays the most games. New systems are released by other companies, including the Atari 5200 and the Vectrex. Games for all systems flood the market, many rushed and of poor quality. Titles available for Intellivision alone approaches 100. By midyear, glut of video game hardware and software creates huge losses and panic within the industry. Mattel Electronics cuts price of Intellivision II console to $69, cancels all new hardware development, and lays off hundreds of employees, including two-thirds of programming staff. Mattel Electronics ends year with over $300 million loss. 1984 Mattel Inc. closes Mattel Electronics, laying off remaining programmers. Sells rights to Intellivision system and games to new company headed by former Mattel Electronics marketing exec. The company (INTV Corp.) continues selling Intellivision in major toy and department store chains, and through mail order. Other companies close or get out of the business, leaving Intellivision the only video game system still sold in the USA that Christmas. Experts proclaim video game industry dead. 1985 When leftover Mattel inventory of Intellivision II consoles runs out, INTV Corp. starts manufacturing the INTV System III console based on the design of the original Intellivision. Starts reprinting most popular games as inventory is exhausted. INTV has U.S. market to itself until Japan's popular Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is test marketed in America during Christmas season. 1986 INTV introduces games that were completed at Mattel Electronics but never released. Success of the new games spurs INTV to contract with former Mattel Electronics programmers to complete unfinished Intellivision games, update old ones, and create new ones. Although sales of cartridges are only in the 10,000 to 20,000 range, by running a bare-bones operation INTV Corp. is profitable. Nintendo releases NES nationally, quickly followed by new consoles from Sega and Atari (the 7800). The video game industry starts comeback. 1987 Popularity of NES temporarily boosts Intellivision sales: stores that had dropped video games in 1984 now stock them again, including some Intellivision titles. But Christmas clearly belongs to Nintendo. 1988 Stores stop carrying Intellivision console and games. Sales are strictly through mail order.

The most awesome song in the world
IntellivisionDude replied to Rev's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
As big of an Intellivision fan as i am, i never liked this song. lol It's too slow and dreary. The video itself would be better if that creepy dude wasn't in it. More gameplay and less creepy dude. Too bad Huey Lewis & The News couldn't of sung it. "That's the Power of....Intellivision" Can you feel it? -

What is the first game you played on Atari (70's, 80's)
IntellivisionDude replied to cimerians's topic in Atari 2600
I never owned a 2600 till just last year and Centipede is my favorite game. But i do have some memories of when i was younger. My Mother never bought me a 2600, i got an Intellivision instead but that's a different story. The first time i played an Atari was when my Cousin came over to my Grandmothers house for the holidays. I can't remember how old i was but i know it was before i got my Intellivion and i got that in 83 and i was 10 years old. The 3 games i remember playing were Adventure, Chopifter and Haunted House. I remember being able to beat Adventure after watching him beat it and memorizing everything he did. But my main Atari memories were playing over a friends house not long after. He had Combat, Outlaw, Enduro, Pac Man, Superman, Checkers, Football and maybe others i have forgotten. We played a lot of Combat and Outlaw. I know he had a set of paddles but i can't recall if he had any games that used them I know i'm going off topic, but as a kid i never hated 2600 Pac Man. I was just glad i was able to play it on a home console. I have and will always love the sound effects in that game. Quite possibly my favorite video game sounds of all time. In my young and inexperienced mind, i probably thought that was the best the 2600 could do and was happy with it. Now i know that the 2600 could do better. But back then i had no clue. I was the kind of kid who made due with what he had. It didn't matter how bad a game sucked. I'd be able to have fun with it. -
Here's a video i did with me and my friend playing Maze Craze. I love this game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKHcXGVu26I

Intellivision stories and memories
IntellivisionDude replied to JayWI's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
That sort of reminds me how me and my friend would play Auto Racing. Instead of just racing the whole track, most of time right at the start of the race we would try and ram each other off the road and make each other crash, then start over and do it again. I like games where you can make your own rules and just have fun. That's like once in a while, while playing Beauty & the Beast i would climb all the way up to the top of building and purposely fall to my death. That fall seems to take forever. -

Strengths of the Atari 2600 over Intellivision?
IntellivisionDude replied to rhindlethereddragon's topic in Atari 2600
Even though i am the IntellivisionDude, i will admit i like the 2600 version of Centipede over the Intellivision. It may not have better graphics but it is so smooth and plays fast. But what you can't deny is, when the Atari was dead and gone, the Intellivision was still making games. All the way up to 1989 i believe. They eventually made updated versions of their sports titles so you could play 1 player. Just take a look at games like Slam Dunk or Body Slam to see how advanced games could get for a system that came out in 1980. Here is a video for Slam Dunk. Cheap plug for my Youtube channel lol. Where you can also see a nice comparison video comparing the Intellivision, 2600, Colecovision, and 7800 versions of Centipede. Some of the best games for the Intellivision came out late in the systems life unlike the crappy games Atari made before it died. The Intellivision survived the crash. Long live the almighty controller disc. Much better than the Atari Joystick. I use a Genesis controller when i play 2600. I have never got used to that joystick. I still love the 2600 almost as much as i love the Intellivision. It's pretty damn close.
