Intellivision stories and memories
IntellivisionDude replied to JayWI's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
The side buttons on the model II were not made as well as the model I. We wore those side buttons out. I was not smart enough to figure out a way to fix them. Now that i think back, it may not have been that hard to do some kind of amateur fix to them. We had those buttons so jammed up in there, games had problems like you mentioned above. Eventually none of the games were playable anymore. The only thing i was able to do after the controllers died was Sim matches on Body Slam. Simming matches in wrestling games is something that's popular nowadays, but i was doing it back in the 80's on my Intellivision. LOL -
Intellivision stories and memories
IntellivisionDude replied to JayWI's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
I also remember when Toys R US sold spare Intellivision II Controllers in the store. But it never dawned on me that it would be something to invest in. Especially since after my controllers died, Toys R Us stopped selling Intellivision Stuff. I even remember seeing an INTV System III in the display case at Toys R Us. But at the time i had no idea what was different with it, if anything. I also believe Toys R Us is where i got my Joystick Adapters that snapped over the Model II controllers. They never really did work as well as i hoped. Even the Sticklers i bought this year are not as responsive as i thought they'd be. I guess nothing is better than the Disc. I just remembered that my original Intellivision II that i got for Christmas in 83 died on me mysteriously a year or 2 after i had it. I think it had some problem where the reset light kept flashing so it wouldn't turn on all the way. One day when i got home from school i noticed my Intellivision looked slightly different. (They made one with a red stripe around it and one without). I spotted the difference right away. My Mother replaced it for me. She never gave me details about that. I was just grateful i was able to play my games again. -
My game collection somewhat of a time machine?
IntellivisionDude replied to Armonigann's topic in Classic Console Discussion
At least 4 systems i own give that feeling of going back in time. All the way back with my Intellivision and even more recent with my PS1 and N64. I can almost visualize playing Burgertime back in 83 in the living room of our old house. And all the times me and my friend would be playing either Intellivision or Nes in my bedroom. I remember going over another friends house and we played Atari 2600 in his basement. That was until he got mad and broke his joysticks. lol It seems like yesterday when i bought my Sega Genesis. It was the first system i bought with my own money from my first job. The store that was selling it was going out of business and everything in the store was on sale. It was 30 or 40% off i think. It came with Sonic 2, and i was so mesmerized by the graphics for weeks. We lived out in the country so the nearest city that sold games was like 30 miles away. And when i got home, opened the box, Sonic 2 was missing. I was so mad. I got back in the car right away and drove back. Even though they were going out of business they were nice enough to let me exchange it for another. I remember when i got my PS1 in 96. I was so out of touch with technology i was thinking i was gonna have to hook up via Coaxial in the back on the TV or VCR. There was no Coaxial cables in the box and thought i was screwed and was gonna have to go back to the store and buy it separately lol. But then it dawned on my to hook up the AV cable. Once again i was mesmerized by the graphics of my new gen system. (on a side not, right now is the only time in my life where i have showed no interest in new gen systems. When the Nes came out i wanted it, same with the Genesis, PS1, PS2, etc. The new systems now don't interest me. Now i'm all about retro. I have been wowed by new graphics enough over the years that the current systems don't do nothing for me.) My old Roommate was a huge wrestling fan like i was. I have vivid memories of us playing all the wrestling games. It started with the PS1 ones, War Zone and Attitude. Then i got my 64 and it was Revenge, Wrestlemania 2000, and No Mercy. My roommate had a Saturn (which we never played) but he was tempted to import Fire Pro Wrestling D for it. But he never did. As much fun and great memories i have gaming as a kid, i think the late 90's/early 2000's were some of my happiest gaming memories i have. It really does feel like it was just yesterday. I'd give anything to go back in time. -
Intellivision stories and memories
IntellivisionDude replied to JayWI's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Nice stories. I have a lot of memories and i could probably go on all day. I remember when i first got my Intellivision II and how blowed away i was at the graphics of Burgertime. At the time i had only played a small handful games on the 2600 at a friends house (Outlaw, Combat, Superman, Pac Man). I was young and didn't have any other gaming knowledge, so i thought that was probably all the 2600 could do graphic wise. So i knew right off the bat the Intellivision was the better system in my eyes and was happy to own it. I remember the trips to a store called Odd Lots which sold Intellivision games. And if i remember correctly most of the games there didn't cost a lot. Can't remember exactly how many of the games i owned came from there though. Only one i can remember for sure was Lock N Chase. I have a better memory of the games my mother bought me from Toys R Us. This was during the INTV period. I can for sure remember getting, Slam Dunk, Slap Shot, Chip Shot, Body Slam, Super Pro Football, Centipede, Diner, and maybe a few others. I also have this faint memory that some of the Imagic games i owned came from Meyer's. I think Meyer's may have been where my mother bought my Intellivion II in the first place. I can't count how many times and how many great memories i had of my best friend coming over to play Intellivision. Sometimes he'd stay the night and we'd play games all night. I remember having lots of fun with Boxing. We played the crap out of Slam Dunk. I was so obsessed, i kept track of stats and records we broke while playing it. I wish i kept those stats. At one time or another we played almost every game i had and i had about 30-40 games. On most games my friend was always just a little better than me. He even broke my Burgertime score. lol And speaking of Burgertime, you know sometime back in the late 80's/early 90's is when the controllers on my Intellivision II died and i thought i was screwed. I had already moved on and got a Genesis and never thought i'd be able to play the games again so it all got sold at a yard sale. (How much i regret that now). But when i finally got me an Intellivision again this year and Burgertime, i broke my childhood record on my first attempt playing. I kind of shocked myself since i hadn't played it in over 20 years. Level 7 was as far as i ever got back then. It's funny how stuff like that happens. But i'd say i'm worse at Slam Dunk now. I used to be a passing machine back then, now everything gets picked off. lol And if anybody is wondering why i haven't been participating in the recent high score challenges, i just haven't been feeling my best. Hurt my back a few months ago and i am rarely in the gaming mood anymore. I feel like i should be participating more and sort of feel bad for not. Maybe i'll try soon. -
I got my Intellivision II for Christmas in 1983. But before i got it, i did want an Atari. My cousin had one, another friend had one. I was just 10 years old and had no idea there were other video game systems besides Atari, so of course i wanted one. But i don't remember being disappointed opening the Intellivision for Christmas. I remember being excited and never looked back. I was in awe of Burgertime the first time i put it in. My memory is a little foggy but what i do remember is knowing right away the graphics were superior to the Atari and having the feeling of that i owned the better system. Even as a kid i hated the Atari Joystick and actually loved the Intellivision Disc. Even today if i play Atari, i use a Genesis controller. It wasn't until last year that i finally owned an Atari 2600 of my own. And i must say it is 100 times more fun than i remember as a kid. I did have fun playing games like Combat, Outlaw and Maze Craze as a kid with my friend. But i feel like i like the games even more now. It's kind of strange. And now i'm finding and playing games i never did back then. So i do wonder if my perception as kid would of been different if i'd of played Centipede for the 2600 back then (It is currently my favorite 2600 game). I did have Centipede for the Intellivision as kid but it just never played as well as i hoped. Centipede was my favorite Arcade game as a kid so it would of been a major factor to me. I'm sort of glad i didn't ever play it until now or i may have been real sad as a kid since i didn't own an Atari and my mother would of never bought me one.

Here is links for all the Intellivision sites i have saved. Some may not be what you're looking for but it could be a good idea to have these for reference for anybody who is interested. http://www.intellivisionlives.com/ http://www.intvfunhouse.com/ http://www.beeslife.com/ http://home.earthlink.net/~classic-videogames/intellivision/index.htm http://intv.mphokie.com/masterList.php http://kentrepairs.com/General/Intellivision.asp http://www.tomheroes.com/Video%20Games%20FS/video%20games/intellivision/intellrarity.htm http://www.kohtz.com/andrew/intv_sm/index.html And even though these next 2 are not technically Intellivision sites you could add the Rarity sections of both of these. http://www.rarityguide.com/intellivision_view.php http://www.digitpress.com/DP/cmf/listing.cmf?system=3691

90's virtual pet craze
IntellivisionDude replied to jeremysart's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I had one but it may have been an off brand. Don't really remember. Thought it was cool at first but got bored with it quick. -
Yes a Genesis extension cable does work. I love being able to sit back a bit. But the end of the extension cable is too big to fit in the controller port so you will shave off a little bit on the end of the plug.

I am putting a $1,250 bounty on INTV Spiker! Volleyball
IntellivisionDude replied to Rev's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
I wish i had the games still that i owned as a kid. I remember my mother buying me quite a few of the later releases from Toys R Us. I never got Spiker or Mud Buggies. (Not sure if all of these were late releases but i did get them around the same time from Toys R Us) But i do remember getting Body Slam, Slam Dunk, Slap Shot, Chip Shot, Super Pro Decathlon, Super Pro Football, Diner, Centipede, Motocross, Mission X, Thunder Castle. And being a kid, i guarantee i trashed all the boxes. All my games were stored in a shoe box. I bought all those back except Body Slam and Decathlon. I'll probably wait till next years tax check and go an a hunting spree. lol -
the last game you just finished was?
IntellivisionDude replied to bomberpunk's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I just finished Castlevania Aria of Sorrow for the GBA. Great game. Now i'm not sure what i want to play next. Contenders are: Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow(which makes sense since i just beat Aria), Super Mario RPG and Wario Land 4. All 3 i bought sometime this year and haven't played them yet. -
What game have you spent the most time with?
IntellivisionDude replied to TwinChargers's topic in Classic Console Discussion
This one is tough since there are quite a few games i have played inside out for many many hours a day and completely veg out with. It's a good chance it's a wrestling game, especially since i used to enjoy simming matches and watching them. Body Slam Super Pro Wrestling - Intellivision (Yup you could sim matches with this old wrestling game, even after my Intellivision controllers stopped working i could still sim matches and i even went as far as to have a list of wrestlers written down on paper and if they won they would move up the rankings. I chose certain characters in the game to represent real life wrestlers.) No Mercy - N64 (Who knows how long i was addicted to this one) Smackdown SYM - PS2 (I spent a lot of days and hours creating intricate CAW's that i printed out from the internet, and just as much time simming.) Castlevania SOTN - PS1 (I have played this game inside out a few times. Who knows how much time i spent trying to find all the secrets and a lot of repetitive leveling up and trying to level up swords and stuff.) GTA III & GTA SA - PS2 (Once again played these out. I remember after beating III, i spent a lot of time hunting down all 100 packages. Or the amount of times i would head to the parking garage and snipe pedestrians on the street without getting caught or hit. Or doing crazy stuff in SA like parachuting off the mountain and just driving around causing chaos.) Burgertime - Intellivision (Burgertime is a contender since it came packed in with my system. And since i didn't have many games with it, i played this a lot over the years. But since a typical game isn't very long i'm not sure how long i've played it. All the games above i could play almost all day long and many days in a row.) NBA Basketball & Slam Dunk Super Pro Basketball - Intellivision (Wow the memories. I remember when i was a kid, my friend stayed the night and we had a double elimination NCAA tournament on NBA. We used NBA since it didn't have a 3 point line. We wrote down the names of some of greatest college teams of all time, i picked half and he got the other half. My friend was a tad better than me, and since i lost the tournament, we made it double elimination, and i still lost lol. I got so involved in Super Pro, i had a paper where i wrote down records. Like most 3 pointers in a quarter, or all game. Most 2 pointers, highest score, and at least a dozen other stats. I even went as far as to make a separate records list for the crappy free agent players. I think then even my best friend thought i was a little insane and going way overboard. lol) Mario Party 2 - N64 (I almost forgot about this game. I can't count the amount of times i have played all 3 Mario Party's for the 64, especially #2. I didn't even need friends. I had almost as much fun playing by myself. I was addicted to this just as much as any other game i have been addicted to over the years.) There could other contenders i have forgotten. Like any Intellivision game i owned as a kid, or even certain Sega Genesis games. -
