  1. Want to sell me one ? I have a working Q*bert mainboard (for my still empty q*bert cab) with an untested soundboard so I'm hoping it is OK but even so it wouldn't hurt to have a spare at hand.
  2. Would be very costly though. That voice chip is the same as used on arcade games Gorf, Q*Bert, Wizard of Wor, Reactor, and Vanguard and a bunch of pinball machines. They are rare and expensive. Would be brilliant to add the voice to those games though ! (All of those games got an Atari version, but I don't think Reactor did while I do remember playing that on the 2600).
  3. In the SAG magazine (Dutch Atari club) there was a guy who fixed the keys with some wood !
  4. For us Dutchies the Sotsji games were indeed the best Winter Games ever
  5. To OP: I totally noticed exactly the same thing......you have Atari burnt into your brain or not
  6. The first time I saw "Atari" and the logo was on late 70s arcade machines and I TOTALLY thought the company was Japanese because of the name and the logo that looked like mount Fuji to me....
  7. I remember them being horrendously expensive until just before the Tramiels took over, then they suddenly went for very cheap at a specialized Atari dealer here. I bought one then. Still remember spending a night to get the old C.ITOH 8510 printer that my dad had brought home from work (it was obsolete there) running with it. After a couple of hours trying everything I finally gave up, put "the lid on it" and......there it went printing like nuts !!!! It was my first printer ever, what did I know that this one had a switch that took it off-line when the lid was removed ;) I have never seen any dot-matrix printer making as black prints as this C.ITOH did.....I couldn't print after 22.00 hrs. though.... I never used the RS-232 ports AFAIR and I sold it together with all the rest of my XL stuff (hey, the ST had all those ports built-in.......arrgghhh...)
  8. I'm pretty sure I had a Japanese one as I bought mine pretty early after the XL series release (together with a 600 XL). I never had any problems with it. In fact, I was boasting against other computer users who had to use "any" tape drive and C64 tape driver owners because they so often had problems with theirs. I never had to readjust the head or whatever. I did some head-cleaning every 6 months or so....but that is normal work on any tape drive.
  9. Unexpected fun: Pinhead This is a clone of Kick or Kick-Man arcade game by Bally-Williams. http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8298 Turn off the terrible music though....
  10. Just rediscovered Drelbs a week or two ago, such a fun, original and hard game....and weird
  11. Great !!! just tested the NTSC, works great, thanks and glad we could help eachother this way ! enjoy Dropzone ! ( I had the pleasure to meet Archer McLean a couple of years ago, great guy, who can tell lots of brilliant stories about the industry :) )
  12. Just went ahead and tried it: no problem, still working fine with composite video. More later.
  13. Can I remove the RF modulator from a PAL 600 XL without problems ? Also: I guess the 600 XL only has composite video on the monitor port, is there any way to make it luminance-chrominance ?
  14. Indeed it looks a lot like it, so that is true for the US and Euro version then ? Wouldn't hurt to try to avoid it though The nr. 5) I listed looks exactly like what is called "The Logo" in the US power supplies thread. I made a typo on that one for the part number by the way it is CO 70045-01/T, not CO 700045-01/T. That partnr. is very close to the US version of that supply which figures. I would like to edit that posting I posted the nr 5) in but it looks like there is a limited time you can edit posts here ? For "history" and searches it would be nice to have that typo fixed....
  15. Good price and higher amps rating, always good. Well, it's not that critical, as long as it's about 9VAC is will work just fine. Nice that it has the right connector, I'm not 100% sure about that on the one I pointed to on ebay. The seller you mention only has 6 left so if guys are in need get them while you can
  16. http://www.ebay.de/itm/Strong-World-Adapter-Stromadapter-AC-Netzteil-JK-91502-NA-9V-1-5A-10130-/400631556554?pt=DE_Computing_Netzkabel_Verlängerungskabel&hash=item5d478069ca
  17. And another found "in Poland": 6) CO61763-11 Type Nr.: DV-515UP Input: 220VAC 50Hz 22VA Output: 5VDC 1.5A 7.5VA GS and TUV approval logos. Made in Taiwan Thermilly fused at 110 degr. C. Interesting to see this indicates the pin-out and voltages of the connector.
  18. Mmmm, I think the voltage doubler is making the idea I had impossible.... I found a guy selling lots of Atari PSU's from Poland and they are from the late XE era: 5) CO 700045-01/T Looks to be epoxy sealed, not sure but I can't see any screws or open vents. Input: 220VAC 50Hz 18VA Output: 5VDC 1A (so little ?!?!?) T40/E GS approval logo. Brand: Magpower Manufacturers PTE LTD. Made in Singapore Date: 4-88 I love the German name of the product: Stromversorgungsgerät. Direct translation would be "Current providing device" Translated German text on lower half: For connection to a Micro-Computer. Turn device off before connecting. The mains cord of this device cannot be replaced. If mains cord is damaged do not continue using device. It looks he has plenty of them judging by the boxes
  19. So.......then Berzerk was leaked by Atari people ? It happened with Behind Jaggi Lines too of course so it sure is possible. I seem to remember that I had to run Translator to play the copy of Berzerk that I had BITD, but the one I just got on one of the floppies that came with a set I just bought plays fine on XLs. I would _LOVE_ to see an update to Berzerk. The only thing needed would be adding some words because the A8 version has less text than the arcade. (Would love to hear it say "Coin detected in pocket" in the attract screen. Does anybody know who programmed it (the 5200/A8 version) ? Would it be possible to reverse engineer how they did the voice ?
  20. Will do...hope tomorrow. Yours is at customs since 14 february.....aren't they working there ?
  21. If you want to play a beautiful, fun yet still challenging version of Flappy bird with a lot of variety and loads of levels get Badland for iOS or Android: http:/www.badlandgame.com Best game on the iPAD IMHO.
  22. If only he made a decent webshop of his site, instead of filling it with hundreds and hundreds of lines of irrelevant information he would have a LOT less to e-mail about AND sell much more stuff. The website is maddening complex. I even use google to search for info on his site that I cannot find through a decent link structure. Setting up a webshop today is dead easy there are lots of services on the internet you can use, you don't have to build it all up yourself. Still, it's great to have people like Brad around....nobody else would probably still be doing this.
  23. Hey Sargie, received the NTSC 800XL today in good order ! No time to check it right now....will do ASAP but I'm sure it'l be fine. Hope yours will be there soon too.
  24. I actually don't think ever knowing about the 400 and 800 until the XL series was released here. I doubt Atari (Benelux) did it's best to promote them although I do have video footage from Dutch national TV that features an Atari 800...they also mention the price which was insane indeed. I think only in the UK the PAL version of the 800 was sold a bit. The XL version sure did change it a lot over here in Holland at least. They did pretty well, although of course the C64 was number one by far, I am positive the XL's were a good runner up. They were sold almost everywhere, from computer shops to large chain stores etc. I saw the ST EXTREMELY early in London. It was the summer of 1985 and I was on holiday in the UK with my parents. I had them especially drive up to the Silica Shop who was a specialized Atari dealer. I was awed by all the stuff but I don't think I actually bought something. No ST there though. A few days later we were in London and I visited a specialized Atari shop there too (don't remember the name) and much to my utter surprise they had a 520ST (or was it a 260ST ??) on demo. It was so freaking fresh that it bombed all the time, and I believe only 1 or 2 programs were actually available. The TOS was from floppy. They only had that demo machine and there were no other units for sale yet. I was awed enough that I wanted one, but it did take some time before I could afford it. The amount of machines sold simply dictates the amount of software for it. I sometimes thought piracy may have killed the A8, but hey, the C64 owners weren't much different. I do remember that because there were fewer A8 owners, they tended to get together more easily. At a certain point in time we had contacts in the US and Australia and floppies were flying over the world.....and remember this was WAY before the internet....
  25. Over here in Europe we didn't get to see much else than 1050's (at least not in the 80's) I remember one guy I knew had an 800 and a 810 drive with happy ( he was the king in those very early days when I had just got my 600XL) but in all those years I never saw any other disc drives then 1050's. I remember looking at the IndusGT ad in one of the American Atari Magazines I bought and seriously drooling all over the place because of that SOOOO incredibly slick looking drive... I saw ads for Rana and maybe Percom too, but those look ugly as hell....the Indus was the holy grail for me
