Two new versions of released games (Malibu Bikin and Road Riot)
Atari_afternoon replied to EricDeLee's topic in Atari Lynx
Both play well in Handy . Thanks again. I find RR especially interesting. Different intro, different music BUT only one and the same song throughout qualification and at least one further track - whilst the other version has different tunes for every track. Also no sounds other than a (new) growl. really interesting. Need to play through more races. The steering is not that different, more important to me is, just like in the well-known version, you are NOT thrown out of curves when you accelerate, which I have always found unlike most other racing games. Once you get used to this you can manage the other buggies with some practice pretty well. I find RR easier than Checkered Flag. Thanks again. How did you come by them? or did you reprogram them yourself a bit? Like exchanging the music track? Just curious. Oh, by the way, is there any other way to get a copy/the ROm of the alternative version of Super Asteroids/Missile Command still? -

Lynx screen attracting dust under the screen lid
Atari_afternoon replied to Atari_afternoon's topic in Atari Lynx
The aluminium case that´s padded inside - but I got the PSP second hand and the first owner already had that 5 pixel big grain of dust in the middle of the screen. I´m gradually getting used to it but I have already ordered a fitting screwdriver... Right about the DS. With the first one I had that, too, but ultimately ignored it. Its upper screen does not seem to be able to be taken apart with hobbyinst´s means. People tell me just to disregard it and not bother to open the PSP but why if it´s possible. Tutorials show how it´s done, it will take half an hour approximately and if it were not for 2 very tight screws I´d already have done it days ago. Right about the antistatic fluid...I will definitely think of this. And whenever I come across a Lynx carrying case I´ll be happy to buy that, too -
Lynx screen attracting dust under the screen lid
Atari_afternoon replied to Atari_afternoon's topic in Atari Lynx
The rubber bands need a few drops of glue, that´s all. No visible signs, and they hold back again perfectly. You only need to lift the first few and last centimetres to reach the screws below, not the whole rubber handles, yet they snap off easily and are as easily fitted back in (on a Lynx II). Before the pouchbag I used a DVD carrying zip-case, roughly DIN A4-format, with the inlays for the DVDs cut out; now I use that for my GameGear I would like the official Lynx carrying case but it´s always 2-3 times as expensive (with p+p) as the Lynx was. Coincidentally, I´m having the same problem now with my PSP! Just my luck. -
Lynx screen attracting dust under the screen lid
Atari_afternoon replied to Atari_afternoon's topic in Atari Lynx
Thank you for your reply. Not really sure. I imagined that if, then this would be the loophole. Is there a reasonable way to make the spaces at the brightness and volume wheels as small as possible? Maybe some very soft rubber or foam inside? Or would it be better to not use the Lynx pouchbag, with its frequent slipping in and out, which from my experience is a rather ususual way to keep any console stored, maybe this adds some electrostatics to the Lynx? -
Thank you. You never know when you´re going to need it. Even if the Lynx is a very reliable workhorse, I know from experience how it is to fix something like this and I remember how grateful I was for helpful instructions, photoshots and video tutorials of minor DIY-console-repairs.

Sure, it´s no serious issue...yet terribly distracting, especially with games that have large bright spaces, like Alpine Games, Warbirds or Steel Talons. I suspect the rubber band between screen and screen lid is not 100% tight (any more), and possibly the neon light makes the screen attract dust pretty easily. Even if it´s only 5 grains all in all, I find them so annoying I disassemble the Lynx and clean it away with a small microfibre cloth. Done so twice already in the course of 12 months, today again and I already have 2 new little black dots in the middle of the screen again Is there any solution for it? I could not find "Lynx screen attracting dust inside" any where here so I´ve started a new topic, and advice would be appreciated. Does slipping the Lynx in and out of the pouchbag favour the screen collecting dust, maybe? Or should I fill all the holes from inside with something like http://www.hmcelectronics.com/product/GE-Silicones/RTV108 , probably going to a PC repair shop asking for a tiny tube of something like this, or is this totally out of the question?

I wrote a sort of first-timer´s guide here, following this step by step is what has helped me then: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/146512-unpacking-my-new-lynx-flashcard/page__view__findpost__p__2252878

I really don´t know. You could try it out now and see if it runs now, of course. I hope it was nothing but dust in your case. And maybe the scratch is not an issue at all. I understand that the thin gold layer on the contacts could potentially wear off but can this happen even after 10000 times in and out, realistically? If so, then I believe everyone who can produce platines could possibly renew the gold layer. Lynxman has hinted at this on one occasion, and he produces Lynx homebrew carts. At any rate, it´s not at all a common issue. Now that I think of it, there is one homebrew cartridge (Yastuna 1), and my copy I often have to insert firmly more than once otherwise it doesn´t boot off. Cleaning the (brand new) cart has not helped there, only repeated insertion. It might be my Lynx´ cartridge slot. After all, 20 years are 20 years and second hand is second hand. These problems are rare, maybe once every 20th time I insert a cartridge. The GB Classic has a higher miss rate, so I blame the cartridge slot contacts. How to correctly clean the cartridge slot, I have no idea. Perhaps with a q-tip or a dry toothbrush? Surely there are some guides out there, preferably for the more notorious contact issue consoles, like NES.

Right It used to happen with records (labels reversed, wrong labels altogether, one label missing etc, one label black and white,...I have one music CD with totally different music than from what´s printed on the CD itself and the booklet, interestingly same genre LOL so I have kept it), so why not with Lynx cartridges? I do not assume there are any pirated Lynx carts out there? (I don´t believe the market was big enough for "fakeys"...)
-
cheapo favourites: Xenophobe, Rampage, Joust, Steel Talons, Yastuna 2 "expensive" favourites: same as Tempest said, and definitely CyberVirus. I´d add Lexis and Road Riot and Lynxopoly. They are all "modern" homebrew carts and most of them are above average games. "Expensive" being between 18 and 42 Euros, "cheap" meaning below 10.
-
I would be happy if it did. If you finished it completely I would be delighted to buy a cart
-
You´re welcome. Well there are no big mysteries behind it. I use an ordinary piece of microfibre cloth you clean glasses with, and sometimes, like with the GB classic, you simply have to blow into the cartridge slot (even if some people say NO now) At any rate, this has helped with my issue with the flat Electrocop card. The EOTB issue was solved by re-inserting it more firmly - one contact has not been fully inserted on one side I think. I have had this problem only once and never since. Thought the savegame was crippled but no, it was only incomplete cartridge insertion.
-
Is the princess in another castle? lol I´m also looking really forward to a finished Lynx game liek this!
-
Strange. No. I cannot remember this. And I have played Lexis quite much. What I get with another cart (EOTB), if not 100% inserted, I get a WRONG savestate. Everything turns right if inserted correctly again. So maybe just one contact needs cleaning? Only guessing here.

It´s a fair enough attitude. If ALL of those who registered on the pre-order list had paid in time I would never have gotten onto it this spring. Wonder if Eric is still willing to do a second edition?

Looking for D Scott Williamson and Pete Wierzbicki
Atari_afternoon replied to [email protected] Gamer's topic in Atari Lynx
I would say, main reason is, in Germany there have been too many too strict youth protection laws so the usual ice cream parlours, malls and pubs I knew as a child had a pinball machine or one of those helicopters or ponies for very young kids to ride and a pool table BUT no arcade games! In order to play arcade computer games you´d have to be 18 (or 16?) in order to be allowed to enter a special hall for it. This must be very very different in UK/US. From what I can perceive there is no arcade gaming culture here Here in a mall, I can never remember ever having seen any computer arcade games and kids standing around it.So in almost all instances I first played and saw "arcade" games on the Atari 2600 and the C64 and in no single instance on an dedicated arcade machine. I think this is unfortunately Germany-specific -
some pretty awesome graphics for the Lynx!
Atari_afternoon replied to DCUltrapro's topic in Atari Lynx
Bug or not, I took it as a gaming tip tonight and indeed I came farther than on my average races! Normally I run out off time (and consequently, continues) after 6 or seven laps at most... now not obeying "the outer lanes are faster in turns" announcement, I find indeed a progress. I´ll try again. S.T.U.N. Runner and Roadblasters are both wonderful on the Lynx, graphic- and gameplay-wise. Thank you! (And also very interested to know how much coding for the Lynx has boosted your career) -
Two new "Mystery Titles" on Beta Phase Games website ?
Atari_afternoon replied to Atari_afternoon's topic in Atari Lynx
No, two additional ones! I have Hotdog myself and I like it even if it´s just the surviving 8 levels (instead of the 35 planned). -
http://betaphasegames.com/Store.html This is intriguing. Anyone care to share at least some most basic info? Like genre, or even title, or at least if a known old gem or something totally new, or rediscovered? My guess is something rediscovered and close to 100% finished (back then)...

I also do not believe that Gameboy and Gamegear had region lock. I have a few Japanese cartridges for each and they run well. Same goes for the NGPC.
