Hotdog Available Now - New Platformer / Mascot Game
Atari_afternoon replied to Willard's topic in Atari Lynx
I am looking forward to my copy, too -
Well I can now confirm that disassembling the Lynx (II) is indeed as easy as it has been described several times on this board and elsewhere, also with photographic help (thanks!). You need an ordinary screwdriver and 10 minutes - maybe no more than 5 minutes all in all the next time to loose the 5 screws and to clean the screen from dust with the very same piece opf cloth you use for your glasses and to reassemble the Lynx back to its original (cleaner) working condition There is no "hurdle" like when you deal with Nintendos or the Sega Game Gear because there an ordinarily equipped household all of a sudden is hindered by a screw of an unusual format or something else like this. No. The Lynx is extremely userfriendly in this respect, too.

Mal gucken, wann ich nu meinen Hotdog kriege
(How long will Hotdog (recent Lynx game) need for the cross-Germany hop?)

^^From what I know, they are only 1-5 Euros each more expensive than the normal curved ones as far as professional dealers whose catalogues I know are concerned. I believe these early games are very common anyway.

The guy and the guitars look great! Personally I think a little text would be needed. I actually read box-written stuff like "copyright 19xx" and "programmed by xxx" and "More levels! More action! More fun!"

My Lynx and N-Gage Collection

Interesting. Your Yastuna 1 looks different from mine, which I think is the standard "blue lunchbox edition" one -
My Lynx and N-Gage Collection

Very nice I envy you a lot! This also reminds me, the Lynx boxes I have, I should get them out off the cupboard and arrange them neatly on a shelf, too! -
My Newest Lynx FAQ's posted on Gamefaqs.com

Thank you! I have bookmarked the Toki and Larry ones for later (ab)use -
A bit late entry but now after one month of Game Gear gaming experience myself, the Lynx wins in many respects. I do not dislike the GG at all, the Sonic games are good, Columns is pretty good and a regular as are a few of the Disney jump and runs but all the other games go in and out pretty quickly, right now I can´t even remember many game names names without looking them up, which is radically different with the Lynx and its library. I find myself playing the GG about a third as much as the Atari handheld. As long as you circumvent the big danger of buying a GG that has the aforementioned age problems, no reason to say why not, the GG fits well in the hands and has some exciting and colourful looking action stuff; yet, the "personality" argument counts and nothing would motivate me to praise any GG game that much as I would rave about cartridges like Xenophobe, Checkered Flag, Rampage or Steel Talons. Nevertheless, the GG is a good addition. Like the dot on the i as far as, for me, 1990ies handhelds are concerned. It has many colourful and beautiful jump and runs, which is good; however, as others have said, if you get a GG you won´t learn or see much new. The Lynx is more special.

Seob is right. My own sidetracking into the GG world (the final "90ies console I´ve always wanted") started with a disappointment, the received GG praised as in "good condition" arrived having no sound and turning itself off after 3 seconds. A quick Google research before would have saved some grief (and about 20 Euro) because rotting capacitors seem to be a common GG aging problem. Nothing that a little soldering and that special screwdriver for that one screw cannot solve comparatively easily. I assume this "running condition" would determine a lklot of a GG´s value. (The previous owner of my now working GG, I have asked her if sound and screen are ok, the sound is already slightly quiet but screen is ok and I can live with it.) [paid 32 Euros for GG with Battery Pack, power plug and 12 games, all w/out boxes tho.]

Original GB one. Close second, Dr. Mario. Does this make me exotic?

My self-imposed limit is only to space size and also to games I really actually play! All in all, all systems combined, it´s about 150... I have one suitcase-like carrying bag full of Nintendo handheld stuff (after having sold all I haven´t played for a year), and a second equally sized bag with Lynx and, since most recently, a (working) Game Gear; each with some 35 games (No, it´s not just lying in the bag, it´s all neatly arranged, all in boxes or original cases of their own. Remember when mobile DJs had CD suitcases with first letter labels to keep CDs in alphabethical order? It looks like this on the inside. It´s an improvement from my pre-2010 "Nintendo-table". It has raised too many questions...) Basically, I keep no games I don´t play. This makes me less of a collector. Oh, and in one closet I keep all the boxes neatly arranged. Wouldn´t call myself addicted. It has always been a nice "Welcome home!" or "Now it´s weekend!" habit since school days. I have only just gotten the stuff (Lynx and GG) I couldn´t buy myself as a poor school boy in the early 90ies... Anyway, last month I sold quite a lot of GB, GBA and DS games, got a decent value for them (more than I expected!), now the "Nintendo suitcase" is a third lighter LOL, and the resulting ift coupon was immediately spent on "new" Lynx and GG stuff :)

A little highly subjective list based on my not yet half a year long gaming experience... - Hard Drivin´ - I definitely like it, it reminds me of Stunt Car Racing and I don´t find it "hard" at all. It´s manageable and great for 10 minute breaks. Don´t expect more than that, however but it´s on my heavy rotation actually! - Robotron - Sorry, I really can´t manage this at all. I promise I have tried but...I sold it again. I have given up - Hydra - the very same. I have never really been successful with the controls and usually run dry before I reach the first stop! Sold it, too, to swap ot for a diff. game. - Lemmings - it is ok, sure...but I don´t find it as outstanding as it is described on many places. Maybe I simply can´t plan enough but from all the levels I have managed maybe five...I tend to play the same again. Personally I would never have rated it as one of the very best games for the Lynx... it´s just me. It indeed is beautifully executed, it´s just not my genre I think. - Turbo Sub. FWIW it generally gets good marks but I was unable to make it past the underwater columns. Swapped it. - Rampage - Reviewers tend it stress it becomes boring or repetitive soon but I find myself playing this over and over and over, on a par with Xenophobe! Rampage is in my top five. - Hockey - Not counting the race games, this is my favourite sports game (with the exception of Biathlon in Alpine Games)! Don´t understand why Hockey is so rarely mentioned. I can immerse myself into this much better than into Awesome Golf or Robosquash - California Games - I have loved this on the 2600 but the Lynx game I find overrated. BMX always gives me a chuckle, footbag I can play endlessly but I still suck at surfing, let alone Skateboarding. I know this was a launch title and it offers variety. Any reviews you´d like to put straight this way because you personally differ from what seems to be the public opinion? Highly subjective, of course! I just find a few names overrated, really just two or three, and others which usually get bad marks I personally enjoy a lot. (This is said by someone who´s just played Kung Food for a full half hour )

I am working on it right now. The computer surely takes its time to make the moves...so it is TEMPTING to let a different chess computer make all my moves LOL.

^^PayPal or mostly, normal bank transfers. Indeed, CCs are not that common over here at least. And thanks to all people who keep the Lynx alive. It´s natural that at least some reward besides appreciative forum posts is demanded for good work. (I don´t know your magazine yet but surely as far as homebrew developing and marketing goes, you guys are worth every cent!)

Aah thanks. Just wanted to make sure. So far I have always taken one rechargeable out because one place on the internet (which I normally trust a lot) states it would "blow up" the Lynx (same source that states a 500 mA power plug would be enough, which I have found wrong; by now I got an Atari original anyway, which gives 1 A).

Something like Fadest´s "Attack" (it´s on Yastuna 1) is also pretty enjoyable a bit like Tetris, a bit like this "4 in a row", just with numbers.
-
No "original" Lynx hame has. Only 3 or 4 "new generation" cartridges do

You can boy Lynxopoly from matashen by just PMming him

Hi, new to the forum, just bought a Lynx
Atari_afternoon replied to A_Locomotive's topic in Atari Lynx
Rygar is also very good. And welcome and congrats to your purchase! -
Yes, it is much harder to get a board solved than on the GBC Shanghai...but that´s part of the challenge IMO I´m looking forward to the lynx chess game!

Lynx HSC: January 2011 Joust

59850 first try tonight... 54100 second... 50350... Give me a good rest! -
Hmm, is it really that bad? Especially when you start a retro session with the classic GB or the GBC or even the non-backlit GBA at first? On-topic, it has been done before; there are some threads with pictures in this forum, try a search on the terms you are inquiring about. One poster did it with white LEDs. Generally, it requires soldering and some technical knowledge. It´s not impossible but rarely done. I myself see no need for it. It´s no DS screen, sure, but when played inside it´s better than any pre-GBMicro screen that I know of. (This is said by a former strict Nintendo´ist; I dislike the GBA SP backlight btw...) I do not know about any commercial enterprise that does this for you. The threads about this subject are also comparatively old so maybe PMming the authors might not work any more. Maybe this thread finds you a volunteer

New Lynx collector in need of the big case....and advice
Atari_afternoon replied to adfot1's topic in Atari Lynx
The_Laird, if adfot1 doesn´t take the kit case, I will
