What lynx game are you playing a lot of lately?

I want to finish Xybots, at last -
Tempest2k had to purchase another 3/4 complete collection with a Game.com Pocket Pro in order to get his final long missing game for his own now completed collection (Congrats!), so in a little trade and without any special "hunting" effort of my own, I have profited a little from this by getting a frontlight Game.com Pocket Pro with fourteen games in January. I knew what to expect and was interested mainly in Sonic Jam. I´m not too much in the mood to repeat everything allover what has already been said, I agree with most anyones´ first observations regarding screen and gameplay and "issues", but I like about the Game.com these three things: - A good Monopoly with save. Tons better than the original Gameboy-Monopoly, which had no save. - Duke Nukem, which I must say find very enjoyable. This is by far my favorite game, it makes for over 80% of play time. - Frogger is also an ok port. The other 11 games that I got besides the three mentioned are not really making me hungry for more, sadly. As I thought, this book consists only of a few chapters, and can be closed very early. It is worth getting a Game.com for the Duke, I think. And if you grew up enjoying LCD games, you might also like Indy500 and a few other titles, Joust and Sinistar on Williams´ Arcade Classics are also ok, Joust is remarkable for not (?) having the pterodactyl, but the allover impression is that the screen quality compares poorly against every handheld gaming from Gameboy Pocket onwards I´m afraid. It stays mostly Duke for me. Now, as a summary, this is the first handheld where I think there is not much more to explore after the first games obtained. No hidden treasures, no homebrew scene, no homebrew developments to expect. A bit of a museum piece of gaming history, and I like it for that and would not trade it away

So true. Especially with that gyroscope cartridge, it would be a formidable and fun piece of Lynx hardware If nobody talks about it, he might believe nobody is interested in this any more. Oh, wrong [This is not a "BUMP" post, I am really pleased with that 3D effect. Not Virtual-Boy-like LED-red-black but bright grey-black. A striking contrast, even without colours. Without spectacles you´re getting dizzy soon enough though.]

Found my old red/green cardboard 3D bispectacles this weekend and Ouragan looks GREAT this way! If only the gameplay were a little...faster. It´s a pity that it stays as it is, as an only half-finished great-looking demo. Is there so much missing to release it on card, maybe?

It works and is playable IIRC from then but actually you need one of these 3D cardboard bispectacles (red and green). You can play it without one but you see everything as if you were drunk

what do i take when i TRAVEL with my Atari Lynx
Atari_afternoon replied to jeffreymatteo's topic in Atari Lynx
The sun shield might be useful in the car during daytime I think. Right about the D-cell battery pack. Unless you have twelve (=two sets) rechargeables and a recharger to recharge them during the visit, for the trip home. -
I find these brochures fascinating, many of which I have not seen before (And the "Schalt um auf Farbe!" ones show a Scrapyard Dog level I have yet to achieve....) [For two seconds I thought this was a level of an unreleased Lucky Luke game ]

Thank you very much for your trouble, Mr Bland Aaah I see clearer now. I really like the intro music and the scaling of the ceiling + floor. Negative points are that the player, as it looks like, can never see what´s left and right or behind - so you are mostly running/gliding backwards, trying to get your opponents in a position so you can actually see and aim at them. Well that works really better in Battlezone 2000.... And the whoo whoo sound effects get really painful after two minutes And after three minutes, that´s it? Back from allover again, sameness? There do not seem to be such "missions" (goals) to be achieved like in Battlezone or in Battlewheels (a duel of ten, for example). Nothing like it here? You can just set your vehicle but the oppoents are all sameness?. There are no "pyramids" to hide behind and no columns like in Battlewheels. And no map like both these games have either? All in all, it does not look too "deep" the way it is, I´m afraid Faceball 2000 is "deeper"... With a few additions, Hyperdrome could have been something. Thank you once again, this was very instructive. And I wish it would be easily obtainable, I´d really like to have it myself. -
Thank you
-
I just need a year or so longer then until i finally get it Thanks for your honest opinion. Somewhere in my brain I had somewhat classified Hyperdrome as "undiscovered Lynx gem"...

I somehow had high hopes for this

MrBland has a truely wonderful collection and what I really envy you for is the "new levels" cart of Cybervirus (Cinci Classic edition). Knowing that Carl reads this, I vote for a rerun of this particular one! (And apologies to MrBland in the same second because I would understand every collector who might NOW wish that no cartridge rerun be made by the original manufacturer because it lowers the value of the rare first run item somewhat ) The other one I´d really like to have, or to the very least, find out about more about (like reviews, gameplay video, colelctors marvelling about the gameplay, and, yes, better availability of that one, too), is Hyperdrome. -
Very very nice Hyperdrome...I have never seen it in anyone´s hands. It is hardly unknown to Lynx gamers.

Echoing what the others have said, congratulations for acquiring an original dev kit and thanks for sharing what you´ve found
-
You can play it til the end.
-
And never steer while you jump! I like this game a lot, too.

Any news about this are great to hear, Ninjabba thank you for all your work!

GroovyBee is right

Looking at the screenshots, It is mostly, if not all, in German, AtariLynxLover

I wish I could find back that topic here from last year or the other year when Eric De Lee (I think) was the first one unearthing these alternatives and describing the difference to the released version (and manufacturing a homeopathic amount of repros which were gone before the lark sings good morning here )

These sounds work on the Lynx?!
-
I like the Lynx 2 design a lot. Before I knew it, the GBA SP was "perfect" for me as far as long-time-handheld-gaming-handling is concerned.
