How would I mod it to 64k?
-
I did see that unit. Surprisingly it's not too uncommon to see units like that around. Unfortunately, the wife has put a cap on much of my spending on cool Atari equipment, have a trip to Vegas coming up. :-( I was able to convince her to let me get the 48k upgrade for my 400 though. That will be enough for me for now. Next item I'll be looking at is an oscilloscope.

I tried resocketing the chips.. Unfortunately, it did not work.
-
I swapped the CPU cards. This worked. So, It seems my problem is there. Would it be worth my time to troubleshoot to which chip is doing causing the problem? Or would I be better off just buying a new CPU board?
-
Unfortunately, after cracking my Atari 400 open, it looks like I have a REVD CPU card in there as well. I will say that cracking these Atari systems open makes one appreciate the ingenuity that the engineers used to create these units. I'll replace the CPU board first and see where that gets me. I'll write back soon!

It's a weird thing, I know. I thought it was just a crazy fluke when I bought the unit. I'll try swapping out the chips and see if that does it. I already saw that Best-Electronics has the GTIA and ANTIC chips for cheap, so I'll buy those and see if it helps. Thanks!

I don't think the color is the issue. If that was the case, I would see an outline or some sign there are sprites on the screen. When I popped PacMan back in and watched the gameplay, there are no sign of sprites. Just dots disappearing when pacman moves over them.

OK.. so it looks something like that.. The weird part is that mine is different colored. Where there should be a yellow box, comes up as a green box. All the colors are off from what I see (Darker or just the wrong color)

Hi Ken, All I have is the Basic cartridge that general comes with the Atari 800. Is that the TurboBasic that you're talking about?
-
Is there a way my GTIA chip could be fried?
-
I just tried the basic program that was used in the example. Both are showing a black screen, meaning that they're both GTIA.

Hi Everyone, One thing that I noticed with my Atari 800 is that for some reason, on select games, the sprites aren't displayed. (PacMan, Ms Pacman, Death Star). Would there be any reason for this? My Atari 400 works just fine with these games.

The Lynx is a cool console. Collect for it if you want, or pick up some of the non mainstream greats that very few got to enjoy.. Some of my favorites: 1.) Dracula the undead -- a MUST HAVE in my opinion 2.) Todd's adventures in Slime World. 3.) Xenobots 4.) Checkered Flag 5.) Blue Lightening

Personal Finance Management System CX8113/CX8114

Interesting.. well, PM me. I'm always up for a conversation. -
At this point, someone should just code a version of the game so that things like this don't happen anymore. If it was available through AtariAge and had the AtariAge insignia, people would come here and check the prices first. It would eliminate price gouging by people like this for fake products.

Bladerunner is another one of my favorites. Total Recall is high up on that list as well. Good weekend to you as well! :-) -

Thank you! It's nice to know when people recognize great movies! Kudos to you for knowing it! (Always loved dystopian future movies. :-) Good luck on your quest. I figure they do exist due to the boxes you have. I don't think Atari would waste the money just to create boxes.. Then again, they did create that dreadful ET game. -

lol.. It's an old itialian military proverb from the times of Mussolini. Just sounded like a cool quote. Kinda like "carp'e diam", but a bit more ballsy.

So, is there a big difference with the incognito-lite?

Thought I had it for a moment.. I have Family Finances I (Cash Flow) Program/Data diskette CX8141 Family Finances II (Budget) CX8142 -
The Incognito for the 800 is incompatible with the 400. I looked through this thread, looked like one was being worked on at some point, so I thought I'd resurrect this thread. I want to upgrade my 400 because I think it would be fun and would also make a pretty cool Atari 8bit gaming console.
