Hi Everyone, I was curious if there has been any progress made on getting an Incognito into an Atari 400?

Haven't had a chance to reply until now. I would be interested if there was an Incognito unit that came out for the 400. The unit feels like a gaming machine, even though it's more of a computer. I'd rather have this with two -> four controllers vs an XEGS. If I could upgrade it to be an XE system, that would be absolutely awesome. Maybe I'll hold of on getting the 48K upgrade for now. I'd rather have 128 or even 256KB. :-) All in all, I'm happy that I bought the unit. Originally, I bought it to cannibalize the POKEY out of it.. Now that I played it and noticed how beautiful the picture is on it as mentioned earlier, I'm going to leave it as is and use it as a gaming machine. No it's not fun to type on. That's why it makes a better game console. It does look good though. How would I do an SVideo mod to it? Even an RCA video mod would be great to have as I don't like using coaxial.

Hi Everyone, I recently got an Atari 400 as part of my growing collection... I was wondering what the maximum amount of ram that I can have in the unit is? I see 48K a lot of places, but I know times have changed quite a bit since many of the FAQs for the Atari 8-bit series were first created. SG

lol.. Maybe I was thinking it was thinner. Just looked at it.. Yep.. That won't work too well. I'll start looking at hand saws. Is there a good way to smooth the edges after I cut a nice sized hole in two 2mm thick aluminum?

It's not necessarily about increasing speed(Although the Clocking Crystal mod sounds intersting). For example, on some sites I've seen things like Stereo POKEYs. They sound absolutely beautiful on games like Yoomp! I know this will work with the 800XL and 130XE, but does this also work with the 800? Things like this. Just modifications that would be cool and fun to do while I'm already in the area. I know many with an XE and XL have a lot of options, but what about us with an original A800?

Could it be a problem with your CD-I or cables?

Hi Everyone, I'm wondering what other upgrades I can do to my Atari 800 to boost performance or do things it wasn't originally meant to do. Seems like every day that I hear about something new to do to my A800, that I'd like to know everything and anything that I can do to it to modify it. I know about the incognito and the VBXE, but what other things are there out there that I don't know about which would be compatible with the original A800? SG

That would be cool! After I'm done expanding my A800, I'll need to pick that up.

So, would that actually improve the memory in the 5200?

Do you think a dremel would do it? I was actually thinking of paying someone to do the cutting.

This is an original 800 that I'm talking about. Very heavy metal shielding. I would probably need to get someone to cut through it with a torch in order for it to fit comfortably.

I will say that I need to see if the incognito board I have works, I have one more part I need before I'm able to check it out. After that, I'll be looking to modify the system even more, just for kicks.

Well, heck.. I already have been hacking the heck out of the insides of my unit. I'm willing to give it a shot and document it if necessary.

Any way I can still order a VBXE? I just saw it last night and found out with some modifications, I can run it on an original 800 with an Incognito board.

I already have an A800, but I am at heart a console gamer. I would think as I get more acquainted with programming on the Atari 800, it might be fun to hack around with the 5200 and get it to do cooler things. It seems really untapped from what I've seen. It would be a bit nicer with more memory though. I know people will say "Well, why don't you get a XEGS?".. Well, because I don't want an XEGS. I already have a computer.

I actually like the 3DS, the clamshell and the 3d aspect. The mockup given looks really bulky and ugly. Don't know, I think it won't go over well.
