1. wow - excellent thread.. good stuff here, indeed! How'd I miss this one? Thanks for dragging this up.. good read..
2. You attacked at the perfect moment, Dave - there were times when I was thinking about quickly rolling in and taking over your HQ, but decided to stop Greg's conquest from the north. At the point I went for Greg's HQ I realized I was spread way too thin and looked vulnerable - I decided to keep going and would see what happened.. I think I'm in trouble I'll be in and out all day and all weekend for that matter, so yeah, turns will most likely take longer.. Not sweat, take your time..
3. Early 80's - Getting our VCS and playing Basketball all morning Early-mid 90's - Christmas eve playing Global Conquest via modem vs my brother - we were both drinking and the game went on for hours Last year - playing Halo2 with the kids over XBL
4. 2600 Bowling is indeed an excellent game Inty bowling - Some say it's pretty good, but for me, it gives me nightmares - The bowler has the same freakish tendencies as the king in the BK commercials.. Yeah it's that freaky..
5. I too have Hocus Pocus and Wolfenstein 3D(great game) disk only - In fact I think that's just how they came no boxes or instructions. I know Wolfenstein was shareware and it was a good one, my buddy and I decided to buy the full game..
6. Same here, at the very least I would have said something to the clerk. With all the talk of theft around here lately, I'm constantly amazed how many people don't seem to care or condone it. 985983 Think about it - With the ability to steal games online so casually, people think it's just as ok to steal things physically.. I must admit to stepping in a grey area a time or two - Abandonware? playing a game to see if it's worth buying? Yeah, I've done that.. Though I usually end up buying what I like.. BTW Joey, how'd you get into work today?
7. Regardless of your hatred for a store, it's still wrong to steal from them. It's one thing to make known poor business practices or displeasure with service, but to outright steal is reprehensible. I probably would've tackled the guy trying to make off with the games.
8. I've started up an additional game for anyone who would like to play - 4 player Island game Game Name = AA3 Password = skooch Turns will be anywhere from one turn per day up to as many as we can get in per day..
9. I think the author of this Advance Wars has taken the liberty of making some "fun" units on his own. So far, I don't think they've detracted from the game and there's always the option when creating a game, to pick which units you wish to ban from that particular game.. Although I have yet to see a game to completion, I must admit to having fun with all of this..
10. So I make a piperunner and when I click to move, none of the adjacent squares highlight to move to. I tried to use "fire" to no avail. It just sits there blocking my tank factory building - I don't get this unit
11. Our local EB games was selling these exact shirts for 10 bucks over the summer.. not a bad t-shirt at all..
12. I bought the C-64 last night ar KB Toys for 10 bucks..
13. Would it be a good idea to get 2 sets for multiplayer? or is it mainly a one player game?
14. So, tell me, how are the bongos? Are they worth getting? I'm not that much into gimmick gaming, so I realize it's not for me, but I could appreciate the fact that my kids might enjoy playing with them. Are there any other games for the bongos or is the DK one the only game? Once you've mastered it, is it done or is there replayability? I just don't want the kids to play with them a few hours and be done with them.. thanks!
15. I think that's a bit oversimplified. Wouldn't they have to be playing the exact same games and being instructed in the exact same way to have equal effect? I guessing the soldier is trained by an superior on a military base and plays a different version of the game than the kid. The kid is playing in his room or the family room withoout a drill sargent over them and not the same game. Different controls in an experiment lead to different conclusions. 982011 You're making assumptions that the author didn't include and that's my problem with this whole article. It can be looked at many different ways geared to whatever point you're trying to make. For instance in this same paragraph that we're discussing, he mentions that "There are consequences for not mastering those skills. That being said, a growing body of research does suggest that games can enhance learning." Since games can increase learning, why can't games be a tool to learn how to kill?
16. Some of those could easily fall into the true category, depending how you look at it. example 5. Because games are used to train soldiers to kill, they have the same impact on the kids who play them. By making this statement, you're saying that soldiers will kill because of a games. Why are kids immune to his point but soldiers are not? and how about an easier one? 7. Video game play is socially isolating. It most certainly can be isolating just as easy as it can be social..
17. Video chess is a fun game - Keep in mind the difficulty level goes from easiest to hardest game #'s 8,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 - 8 is for those new to chess, the AI is pretty silly at times. I think the highest I beat was 4 Also check out the set up your own board game It's fun trying to play with additional queens - or start off without pawns
18. Was that it? no packaging? Just stuffed in a co-ex envelope? man..
19. If "From Russia with Love" was the first xbox game ever, then it might have been playable(maybe). At this stage of the xbox, I expect more. I was totally let down with that game. The proverbial straw was upon running up to a bad guy, who was just standing above a set of stairs staring at a wall, I used the precision shot feature, aimed at his head, then aimed at his groin then decided to shoot him in the foot, he went down like a sack of potatoes, then disappeared.. wtf? I immediately took the game out, returned it for full credit.
20. Mario's Mixing Bowl Party Fun Deluxe IV ?
21. First thing I would fund, would be to make the 2600 totally internet compatible - Every game would be supported for multi-play
22. I believe the problem lies in distribution - EB games, Gamestop and the like, are not going to shelve a game that doesn't run along the lines of a money maker. The general gamer just isn't aware of the unique game. Go into any EB games and ask for a recommendation. Faint if the game recommended doesn't end with a year or a number..
23. I'm trying to save up to buy one - I'm a sucker for new units I guess we'll find out soon enough
