Seems like you'd need someone to write a Minikernel for you: http://www.randomterrain.com/atari-2600-memories-batari-basic-commands.html#writinghud I definitely would need someone elst to write it, that's for sure! Well, I think I solved 2 problems all with using pfres of 32 with superchip and doing everything in the playfield. It is enough resolution to work, while it is VERY ugly, gameplay is possible in not approved by Duke Nukem mode ("Don't got time to play with myself!") http://www.soundboard.com/sb/solrosin.aspx number 31 now to work on 2 player!

LOL on that one, ah, the buildup or teardown from original post. I actually cracked up a bit at work, thanks!

Searching for Horror Movie Featuring Killer 2600
Pioneer4x4 replied to Syfo-Dyas's topic in Atari 2600
What about Kolchak, the night stalker... Those were on netflix streaming recently. My wife and I watched several, WOW bigtime cornball. But embarassingly entertaining. Anyway, that doesn't sound like it would be on that series. -
I agree compaired to the alternatives, but then again, I didn't buy one of them either. I almost bit on a Cuttle Cart back in the day... I think that to many, maybe even most, it would still sell at a higher price, but I might not have bit. I still might by a second one though!

I always hated the damn bat screen, but other than that, I really liked it. As for extras, I only have one, sorry. -
OK, Say I want to draw 50-100 dots on the screen, independant of the playfield. They will be static and flickering is OK, can they be a 3rd color seperate of the 2 playfield colors? Is this even possible? I can handle the real basics, the math, the program flow... I just can't think in the peculiar requirements of the 2600's graphics.

For a really crude generalization, since you are more mechanical. Think of the circuit as vacuum hose with the resistors as small pinhole orifices and the capacitors as the vacuum storage canisters. One impedes the flow/pressure and the other stores/smooths out the flow/pressure. BTW, I love your signature! B.A.S. rules (Big American Steel!)

I agree, I think that is the best way, for simplicity of saving ram, and for playability. When you have a Pac-Man guru (aka nerd, geek, spaz) playing against a 'normal' person, they trade off more often, and the 'normal' person doesn't get as annoyed with the abnormal one.

I would agree that both should do the same thing more or less equally. Some old VCR's might even be better since they were designed to produce excellent picture quality, not just perform a task of getting a picture from one device to another.

At $50 I was very pleased to get it. At $100, I would have been thinking, "That is cool, but I'll skip it for now" and used my Superchargers to play the 4K games and been happy. Now that I got it, and realize how much nicer it is, I am very glad I got it. I would like another one for a couple of reasons, but I'm holding off for now. Assuming a 7800 one did exist and it was perfect, handled all games, saved hiscore, whatever, I would probably not be that interested in it unless it was as cheap as the 2600 one. There is not that many games I want to try on the 7800, if I want to play better games than the 2600, I will play something MUCH better. The 2600 is all the classic console I need and want. And I don't think I will be that interested in programming or trying homebrews for the 7800. I might start getting some of the homebrews for the 2600, as well as writing my own. (I'm working on 2 now thanks to Batari Basic!) Anyway, the $50 price point was perfect for me, if it was more, I probably wouldn't have bit on it, and would have not known what I was missing.

I never thought or knew about that back then, but I would think that it is a big feature for marketability and playability. I remember how much it sucked watching others play a game until they were done, then the "It's My Turn" fight would begin. Now assuming I never saw Pac-Man, I might have thought it was OK, and fun. I was just amazed how bad it looked, and never got past that.

Do you have any idea how much the NES "Added" to the signal? Maybe I'll test mine next time I pull it out. I assume a digital multimeter will pick up voltage across the terminals of the coax. It would be nice to get it to work, I still have 2 tvs using coax. Doesn't the NES auto-switch have it's own cable with rca jack to the console? If so I definitely would only have tried it on the 7800 or 2600Jr. I wouldn't have coupled it to a 2600 with built in cable.

AH, a "Defender" defender! Personally I didn't like it, but then again, I sucked on the arcade version. And as for Pac-Man, I thought it was an abomination. I remember my cousin got it before I did, and was appalled at how pathetic it looked. It was almost as if someone said make a game that does "XYZ" over the phone, and the programmer never saw the original. I am not fond of the game play either. But I agree it is not among the worst.

I picked up six of the Atari carts from him and they came no problems, packed well. They were are in very nice condition. A couple I got just for the manual, but the carts are in better shape than mine so that was a plus also!

I remember trying that back in the day and it wouldn't work. It might have been with my 7800.

Searching for Horror Movie Featuring Killer 2600
Pioneer4x4 replied to Syfo-Dyas's topic in Atari 2600
"That last point is totally unrelated, yet notable..." Damn that's funny! Thanks for the laugh! It reminds me of an episode of Wings where Brian will name a movie and time into it where an actress is naked. I think the example was Jamie Lee Curtis in Trading Places. -
Huh? Who? Where?

Tried to find - and failed - where'd the funny box art captions go?

Thank you! That was extremely funny. "Oh! I Say!" what a hoot! -
The label was similar to this.

I agree with Frankenstein's Monster. It's losing animation would fit the theme well. -
I just got another yesterday, at an indoor flea market for $10! No channel switch or hole for it, no speaker slits. 15064H Plus on the top left edge it has a Social Security number engraved on it. Ah the 1980s when theft was some schmuck stealing your stuff, not your identity.
-
I'm curious to what else might be in your storage boxes!

Do you have a pic of the Atari? The Hong Kong one? No. I left my phone in my car at the time. I'm sure it will be there next week. edit.. I did a little research, and I wonder if it was a light sixer. I thought it had the same curve to the front as the 2 heavies I have. I guess I need better understanding on the differences. I thought the light six was the same basic case as the 4s. I guess not.

I just went to an indoor flea market, and there were 2 vendors with video games, BOTH had a heavy sixer. One hooked up running space invaders for $25 with 3 games I flipped it over and it was Hong Kong, not Taiwan! The other was a Sunnyvale for $15, I offered $10 and got it, whoo hoo. I have no idea if it works or not, it is in nice shape except for one thing, it has the "Please steal my identity" feature of the 1980s. It has someones social security number engraved on the top! Not real obvious, and I could probably remove it and make it better.
