The white stem is fine. I tried manually clicking the dome but nothing happens, so I guess it's the wire. I didn't know Viagra was useful as an atari repair method. Did Bob Dole talk about that? Looks like I'm off to Ebay for a replacement. Thanks folks. CM

Hey! I have an original 2600 joystick that won't go up. All the other directions work, as does the fire button, but when I push up nothing happens. I opened it and replaced the the metal domes on the PC board, but that didn't help. The board looks like its in pretty good shape, the wires are all attached and unbroken, and theres nothing wrong with the male pins on the console. Any ideas about this mystery?
