  1. It doesn't really pay to hang around too long on the first coconut board. Just try to get as many top platform jumps as you can while taking any second or third level fruits/items that role by. The first board starts off with 2500 on top platform lands, then doubles on subsequent ones until you get to 20000.

In a sentence, greed will always get you killed in Zoo Keeper. Keep control of your greed and let the point values go up exponentially. That is the only way to not get bit by an animal or a coconut.

I think this technique is not allowed in the Twin Galaxies "rules" ... Jumping on the top platform.

Since the website is still not operational I cannot verify.

But, if I'm not mistaking they were limiting the number of jumps to 3 times.

Also, when we played back in 2010, the special rule was to limit the time spend on the coconuts level to 30 seconds.

  2. I haven't played this game before now, so I have 2 questions on the diamond. Is it a really rare occurrence and is there a certain way of triggering it? Checking a few websites states it's completely random, not sure if that's the case.

The diamond appears at random. You get a free game if you grab it.

As far as I know, the diamond is part of all the Mr. Do games.

The only one I can not remember seeing it is the Run Run version.

Have a look as this article by Don Hodges about triggering the diamond in Mr. Do.

    http://www.donhodges...ond_trigger.htm

Edit: You also get 8000 points for collecting the diamond.

  3. Ah man. I went and played a score not reading the rules.

I don't want to get all fussy about the rules, but I think Pat had a point by saying we should allow about 5000 pts per board on levels 1 and 2. It gives the players that know how to "punch the monkey" a slight, but not montrous, advantage. But I am stepping into the conversation too late now, so I will be playing for distance and not score. I think it makes it easier because of freak accidents you have while "scumming" (I prefer to call it "pressing").

I see Pat has the furthest progress with Level 3-3. I made it to the Level 2-2 and I know I can get further than that.

I hope I can at least make it to the third level. I'll give it a shot tonight.

I made it to 4-1 my last game without any boxing (pressing).

  4. Just to be clear, the "scum" bonus is seperate from the actual high score contest. In other words, you cannot scum on the first board, then continue to play for the overall high score.

When you play for a spot on the normal leaderboard, you cannot point scum at all. I apologize for not clarifying this before. Sorry. :(

Patbb, I'll accept your 37,200 score for the bonus, but I cannot accept the 47,600 for the actual HSC score.

OK. I will submit another score.

But I personally think that we should have a clear rule on what is "point scum".

For example, is it OK to scum for lets say 5000 points at each level? Or is it only for the boxing with the gorilla?

What about just killing the monkeys?

Usually with games with a time limit, there is no special rules.

  5. Total:47,600

    scum: 37,200

I did not "scum" on the other screens.

To get the maximum points, you can "scum" on the second screen wait for the time to elapse then "scum" again.

I'm not sure if the bonus life is at every 30K but if that's the case, you can play forever!

Note:attached is the INP of my game using WM106 ... if somebody wants to see how I scummed.

  6. Bonus Challenge: BE A "SCUM"BAG! Point-Scum your highest score for Level 1, Round 1 using only 1 life. Highest score will receive 3 bonus points! Here are the rules:

    1. Point scumming is allowed. Beat the crap out of the gorilla! :)

    2. You can only use 1 life. Whatever you score in your 1st life is what will be counted. Just for consistency sake, do not set dip switches to only 1 life. Seeing the extra lives in reserve will show that one life was used.

    3. Screenshot must be provided in order to prove that you only used 1 life for your score.

    4. You MUST save the kid kangaroo in order for your score to count. So, watch the timer, folks. :)

When the baby kangaroo is saved, the bonus score appears above the number of lives left.

As shown in your second screenshot.

So we cannot know, for sure, how many lives were used.

Unless we do one screenshot when finishing the 1st level and one when starting the 2nd.

  7. I'll throw something up. I forget how to time the gorilla. I'm guessing that is where you are getting all of the points on the 1st round. You do die when the time runs out right?

    8,400

    B

Yes you die after the time runs out.

This is why there is not a "special rule" (TwinGalaxies) on this technique.

It's like point pressing at Donkey Kong.
