Knockout Grand Championships (2012)
patbb replied to cparsley's topic in Intellivision High Score Club
I'm pretty sure the 7800 version of Klax doesn't show the final score. You might have to pick another game. You're right, it goes away as soon as you're game over. I will select another game shortly. -

HSC Round 4.35: Memorial Day Tournament
patbb replied to bigbee99's topic in Arcade/MAME High Score Club
Rushin Attack: 114,800 Rygar: 58,600 Time pilot: 154,300 Pole: 16,700 Gyruss: 138,700 Ghould: 78,900 yes ... with point pressing, but I did not kill myself just to get more points. I got kill by the first boss most of the time. I think I know how to get him know, by getting directly below his head and shooting up. I mostly point press in the second portion of the level on the on the top hill near the hanging pole. (see pink dot in image below) Basically you are in between two "roots" and you shoot righ and left. If you want to do that make sure that you have at least 45 seconds left if you want to have time to get to the boss and kill him. -
I played 100's of games and never seen that! Were you able to play "normally" after that?

HSC Round 4.35: Memorial Day Tournament

Anyone else? I'm cool either way. Come to think of it, I'd rather keep moving forward for the sake of time. We've got a lot of games to cover here. Its still early in the tourney so if you want a voice in this decision speak now. I just got a 19,400 playing straight through. B I've never played this game so I don't even know how the "camp" trick works but if there's a poll my vote would be to nix it. Like B said, we have 10 games to work on here; if you're forced to fall in line and "camp" just to compete with everyone else doing the same, it's tedious. Besides, campin' ain't gamin'.... a score achieved by exploiting cheap tricks says little about the caliber of performance the player puts in. I remember we played Kangaroo a few months ago and that game grated on me because it was a point press fest. Talk about the definition of dull. Whatever the verdict, I won't complain... just offering my $.02. I think we should go with whatever TwinGalaxies rule's are. At lease with GNG there's a timer. With Time Pilot, you can leach for points in the 1940 level by just shooting down 1500 points airplane for a while, it's not easy but that's how the MAME record was set. You can do the same in Russian attack for a while .... until the 3 karate kids shows up and even then, if you have a blow torche you can do it even longer. I think that at one point a plane come and gets you and I think there is a timer but you have a lot of time for pressing points. -

Nice score Oyama. I'm having a lot of problems with Level 2 round 4. I usually lost 3 life in that round. So there is no room for mistake before it or I'm game over. BTW, I also think that this level is the hardest in the arcade version. If you like this game you should try FHMC Q*Bert on MAME ... it's crazy.

Too easy after level 6 in the Adept mode. I stopped my game at 523,190 According to my calculation, I can make about 500K points/hour with my pattern ... but unfortunately I don't have a lot a free time this time of the year. I created an INP using MESS. so If somebody would like to see my pattern, I can make a video out of it. qbert 523k.zip

How do you get that highscore table? Is that available only in the "official" version?

Adept: 48,480 (Level 3 round 4) Expert: 34,400 (Level 3 Round 1) I will play again for sure. This is a wonderful port. A lot more difficult than the arcade version... I love it !!!

It's a recording of my game using WolfMAME .106 1-download and install the file from the link below http://wolfmame.marp...meplus-0106.exe 2-Start WolfMame and set your rom directory 3-Go to File>Playback Input and select the INP file included in the zip But I'd have to boot into Windows to do all that. Yes .. there might be a way to do it at the DOS prompt but I don't know the parameters. I try to make a Youtube with it tomorrow.

This is where my inspiration comes from... http://www.cheatchan...wfiles/klax.htm The speed-up always *felt* to me like it was based on the number of tiles, and not the time. So that pushing down on the joystick to speed up the conveyer didn't really give you an advantage. This site says it's time-based. Can anyone confirm either way? Is there anyone capable of looking at the code itself to find out precisely? Apparently some of the home versions either don't speed-up, or have a non-speed-up optional mode. (Not the Lynx version.) The speed-up is the entire challenge, frankly, and it's what makes Klax so hard. I just wish it didn't speed-up quite so much, so that the game was a tad easier. I'm not sure if it's time or titles but if you tap the button when the points are "counting" you will get more points. For example, if you do a tagen stax on the first level, you will get about 260K but if you press the button the points will go over 300K I have look at my INP for an example. (this is not from my 900k game but a good one ... for me ... 873K ) I still cannot finish the 40 titles level but I manage to get over 900K. The 10K points level is where you can get the most points. Everything abouve 10K points counts double! Klax: 964,933 klax873.zip
