  1. I put u09 into a 6800 dissembler I found and from looking at the output it looks like it handled it right? Honestly the Assembly code I did in college was simpler with just a single processor. The vidiot board has a 6800 and 6809 in it. Seems like a fun project to play with.

Uhm, this is the F18A MK2 thread... ;) As Tursi mentioned, the 9918A family cannot have sprites with more than 1 color.  Layering sprites was used to add more colors, but you would quickly run into the 4-sprite-per-line limit.  The F18A removes the sprite-per-line limit, and also provides 2bpp and 3bpp color capabilities, as well as as programmable 64-entry 12-bit palette (and a lot of other enhancements).

LOL, I knew you added capabilities to the the F18A. I misunderstood that you were saying the 9918A could do more than one color.  Is it really 1 color if you have transparent too? Doesn't that count as 2? LOL.

Well, at least to a handful of Baby Pac-Man owners, maybe.

IIRC Pac-Man could have 4-colors per sprite.  The F18A can easily provide that, as well as a custom palette to match the original.

I'm a programmer by trade, but I haven't done any machine code since college and that was over 20 years ago, but I'd totally over love to give it a go! I thought that they got multiple colors per Sprite on the Colecovision by stacking sprites. I didn't know 9918 could do more than 2 color sprites!

This is all above my pay grade but if you were able to pull that off with a Baby Pac you'd sell a ton.

I think that people would love a version with a better video portion to the game. Something more Pac-Man authentic.  BTW, @koolmoecraig it's nice to see you still kicking around.

Excuse my ignorance but what benefit would be had running it in a Baby Pac-Man?  Baby Pac is my favorite game.  Happily test in in my cabinet as well if needed.

Well, the F18 doesn't output RGB so the Vidiot board has a chromadecoder in it to convert the composite video to RGB and doesn't look as good as it would if it were RGB. Either version of the F18a would be an upgrade for Baby Pac, You could put in a VGA CRT in if you wanted with the MK2 or even a LCD over HDMI (blasphemy).

To be clear, to date the MK2 has only been tested in the TI-99/4A, ColecoVision, and Panasonic HX-10 MSX1.  I do not currently have an ADAM or Tomy Tutor in my possession for MK2 testing.  However, the MK2 is built on the design of the MK1, and aside from the problem with my own 99/4A, the MK2 has been 100% so far and I do not expect there to be any problems (but it will also be tested in other systems before being made generally available).

I have a Baby Pac-Man if you want me to test it in that.

  7. Some quick questions about the MK2:

Does it still output video on the original pins?  Can I get analog RGB from it?  I would like to put one in my Baby Pac-Man as the vidiot board in it does a terrible job with converting to RGB (Via a chroma decoder) I would like to get something that will look better on the original arcade monitor.  I would be sweet to also have a TV connected as a spectator monitor.

I still want one for my Colecovision, so the digital output for that will be awesome.

  8. * Standard 20-pin FPC header but make my own connector board with a DVI header. This would allow an audio header on the header board and possibly analog VGA signals.

This seems like the best choice, some applications would prefer a analog signal and others a digital signal. It's easy enough to buy a DVI to HDMI adapter.

  9. bear in mind that if your colecovision (if you want it for that) is a European pal machine there is an issue that stops you plying certain games. it is being worked on but as yet there is no definite fix

I'm actually planning on putting it in my Baby Pac-Man arcade game. But if I can get two I'll put one in my USA colecovision.

  10. out of stock again, he just got a new run in. The website does say to contact him to be put on the waiting list and when enough people are interested he'll make another run. in the meanwhile there are a couple of modders around here that might have extra stock.

Thanks, I did the contact as instructed earlier today. I guess I'll look around for stock in other places.

  11. Thanks ALOT for posting this!

I truly appreciate you took the extra miles and film your trip there

I did something similar in the past, we did visit the old Coleco factory in Montreal

But sadly, I was not bright enough to film the whole trip

Although, I did take some pictures......

    See here

    NOW, let me annouce this:

I promise to go to the Coleco Factory in Montreal with Toby and Antoine and I'm going to film the whole thing

And oh..... I'm working on a Coleco film documentary

So you heard it here first, remember ;)

Yaggy on the KLOV forums said that when he went into the factory there was still promotional materials and parts inside, I'm wondering if we can get permission from the current owner to film inside.

Loveeeeeeeee the Vid!!! Thanks for sharing bud, it was super cool. =) I am planning a day trip up there one weekend soon, I have always wanted to see the factory. Its about 3 hours away from me, in NYC. I love the fact that all of our games were made in the USA, especially NY. and for our resident canadians LOL CANADA too!!!! How cool, is that.. =)

    Anthony

Isn't it great that they were made here? It's a shame we don't do anything anymore.

This is so cool ... Thank You!

    :-)

You must be just up the road from me :)

I'm in Richmondville, were are you?

    Awesome, thanks for posting!

    Thanks for watching!

  12. Very cool! Thanks truly for taking the time to do this for us crazy Coleco fans. And welcome to the forums!

Kind of hilarious to see "Bill's Beverage Center" leasing out that old Coleco factory building. He must've gotten it for cheap! I half-expected to see a Greenberg family member running it, looking all haggardly and beat. :D

Thanks, over actually been a member for a while but I don't post much, I'm more active on the KLOV arcade forums. :-)

I was fun to go and I think I'll stop back and go to the beverage center.
