  1. USB adapters don't seem to work. Zerosquare designed the CatNip - a replacement USB device for BJL & other things, but it wasn't released and I'm not sure what the status of that is. There are other solutions if you have a Jag CD, but they aren't as flexible as BJL and won't make use of your setup.
  2. CRY me a RMWver

  3. I'm not sure what it is, but there's something I quite like about that menu... All it's missing is a scroller & a d-bug logo \o/
  4. It does seem odd, maybe it's re-syncing somehow, I have no idea & don't want to get into trouble for saying the wrong thing All I know is it works, it's not a big deal & 170-250k/sec is much better than 7k/sec... but if the skunk only worked at 7k/sec I'd still be using it every day... probably just drink a lot more tea between testing things
  5. Look at the previous skunkboard threads, you'll need a hub of some kind to fix that. I believe a powered hub is recommended by Tursi, but I've personally had no luck with those - had better results with very cheap unpowered ones.
  6. Using the infos in this thread I've been busy with rotaries. Pictured on the right is a zerotary controller with switchable rotary/regular d-pad controls. I stuck the detentless little spinner up near the cable - this pad I'm going to use for testing as the switch keeps me from having to swap cables. Before I make any more zerotaries I'm going to try to find a better position for the spinner, possibly on the bottom right and turn the pad 90° to use it. This only cost £2 a pad to make (for encoder, switch and cheap push-on rubber knob), I've still got plenty of spare pads to convert & hope to make a set of 8 for some dual team tap multi-player fun next year (having all 8 pads made using the same encoders will keep it fair & even). The other one on the left is a straight rotary with a _huge_ aluminium knob Instead of the regular 25mm knob on other spinner pads (roughly the same size as the d-pad) this thing is 40mm diameter (as big as the outer circle around the d-pad) and quite deep at over 20mm. I wasn't actually expecting it to be any good but I think it's the best spinner I've used for the Jaguar. It feels really solid & precise when turned as a dial and moves freely enough to be easily spinnable with the thumb on top (the larger size making this much easier than my other pads). The encoder used here was actually a detented one, but using OMF's idea it was castrated and now spins freely. Only problem was I had to file the encoder shaft down a bit as the socket in the knob wasn't quite the 6mm it was supposed to be.
  7. I think £300 is absolutely giving yourself away, you're clearly not doing it for the cashmoneys! If I was a collector type I'd be all over that, they've spent far more on much less in the past.
  8. The skunk is a bare board. The skunk III ghost comes with a box & manual. It's simple (and advisable) to fit the skunk into a cart case... there are a few ways to go about it, you can tinker with the insides & squeeze it in (not done that myself, others have) or cut a couple of holes in the back to give the large USB ports some room. Loop a cable around inside so it can't be tugged on and damage the skunk and have it wherever suits your setup best (I prefer out of an end of the 'handle' part of the cart case).
  9. Some people prefer to use rotary pads rotated 180 degrees, so their right hand has the spinner & the left has the buttons (saw someone playing like that at ejagfest). That should work well with this positioning. I'm going to make a few up so we've got plenty for some multi-player rotary games at AC/RGC/ejagfest/etc., not sure where I'll put the spinners until I see the encoders in my hand.
  10. Yeah, I saw a description of the different versions the guy had. Those and the info in lotek's link above shows they had big plans for the game at one point but didn't manage to begin to pull it all together before leaving the Jaguar behind for newer platforms.
  11. :/ Well good effort at least for sounding him out on the subject. But his reply is just another example of that elitist, selfish supercollector mentality and on the public domain Jaguar Games Console ffs, doesn't it just make you jump for joy? But I'm not so sure the guy is entitled to have such a selfish attitude... I can understand the opinion of collectors buying a prototype and wanting to keep it to themselves to protect their 'investment'. Even if I don't necessarily agree with it, I understand why. But I have reservations that what the guy who made the video bought was a true prototype. "all I know is I paid a lot for this one" is what he says in the comments, but it doesn't matter how much you pay, it's whether what you paid for is the genuine article from someone trustworthy. He says "I don't have any way to rip the Roms. Now [nor?] would I if I could." and also "I don't know how many roms exist", so I'm not sure what he bought was either something like an Atari Flash Cart with the game burned to it, an Alpine with the game sat on it or just a ROM file sent to him somehow. Or maybe it was even a CD (the other video suggests TRF is a CD game) but the video opens with that awful intro, not the Jaguar booting, so hard to say. I just have doubts, having read things in this thread and on js2 etc., that what he bought was a genuine proto, i.e. something direct from the devs or some 3rd party who worked there/had access to work-in-progress builds, something you could say for sure is a 'real' proto and not just a dump burned to a flash cart years after the fact, as it seems might have happened on a number of occasions. That would mean he's no more right to have that game than the rest of us, if it's the case, same for those who definitely did buy a repro proto in these circumstances. Maybe these people were told to keep quiet & not say anything, maybe they were told they were buying a 1-off, maybe... it's all just speculation, without him openly saying where/when/how he got it nobody will know for sure what it is, but for me it's just much more likely to be a dodgy repro. If that's the case, that means he's happy to pay someone who doesn't own the rights to it in any way, shape or form to bootleg it & provide him with it for this large sum of money, so he can have it in his collection & show off in a youtube video - "hey, look at this, it's a Jaguar game & YOU don't have it"...but then when he's asked to consider sharing it/exploring it/doing anything but show a video and play it? Doesn't want to know, run for the hills, sounds like the talk of PIRATES! and we're all very afraid of pirates on the jagwaaaarrr! Personally I'd just like to know how big the ROM is and how much of the cart the graphics for each character take up, if they're compressed or cleverly compressed & decompressed in real time (because the game is doing very little work that I can see and that would at lesat be something impressive about it) or just before each fight or whatever, then it'd be simple to guestimate how many characters there could have been in a finished version of the game (because 24 seems a bit far-fetched, even with so few frames of animation as seen in the videos).
  12. Ahhh, so such delusional ravings as your Jewish conspiracy and those about the government spraying chemicals onto it's citizens (LOL!) and posting photos of your cock on hook-up sites - that was merely a ruse to disguise your superior intellect? You did such a great job, you had us all convinced!
  13. Not sure there's anything on Jaguar that sounds as good as this player at 32kHz, very nice... I'm sure 8 & 12 will get plenty of use when it comes to squeezing more out of everything else
  14. I don't think anyone could afford what it'd take to pay off High Voltage & the actors to make a legal release of this Alpha happen (checking the video, there's no way that game is anything close to being a feature-locked Beta, it's seriously early code). Would High Voltage want something so rough being associated with them when they're actively producing stuff for current platforms? Doubtful. From what I've read on this forum & JS2, it seems there are already copies of this game in different hands (it was shared around at some point) and also hints that someone occasionally burns the game to a flash cart & eBays it? That's the way I read it. Possibly how the guy who made that video got hold of his copy? No idea, he didn't offer that info on youtube. Agreed on one part of that - random repro dealers who release stuff and take cash for software they don't have the rights to are doing nobody any favours... not all that sure too much of that has ever gone on with the Jaguar though. Suppose it'd all depend on the terms under which the guy bought what he has as to whether or not he could 'recover his investment' - pretty doubtful they were sold with any rights to that effect though, in that case any investment made would be in a collectible value, not in rights to reproduce or call it your own software.
  15. Don't let linko's modesty undermine his achievements here - he wrote this tracker/sfx player from scratch, absolute ground up and figured out loads of stuff for himself so that he had a real understanding of how it all worked at every level - MEDAL GET! I watched (well, listened) as it grew from the very basics to this first release and I was totally impressed with the way he went about it and the way he decided to release it. </luvviemode>
  16. So seems like both power supplies work, but the JagCD isn't receiving power for some reason? It's possible it might have been used with the wrong power pack before & something has blown, or it could be something else completely. If you're not in a rush to get it looked at, you could see if gaztee could bring it up to Linko's at the end of the month & he could maybe take a look at it, he knows more about them than anyone else I know. Of course, they're both busy chaps so I probably shouldn't volunteer them without asking first

    REBOOT Games

Nice spot! It's because the CD images are produced with ULS. ULS images will always be the same size, regardless of the size of the single-load game you feed it. We only made a few copies of KM for ejagfest. Since we released it, we decided we weren't happy with a few things, discovered a few issues, so before it goes off to be pressed we're remixing it a little. Thing is, we're busy working on a game to include with Raptor, something to demonstrate how things work & how simply you can make games with it, so KM 'proper' release will take a little time yet, in the New Year. There's no chance of a release before March, sorry. We are working on it again soon, though. We were asked for a demo copy to show at a German show last year, we had to say sorry but no to him, too We're only showing work-in-progress stuff in person at shows we attend, sorry (although, the version I took with me to ejagfest this year was not really a playable game, it was a test version that used the 2nd pad to help design and test new weapons... d'oh! so that didn't spend much time on show ).
  18. Sign the back of it, then you'll get better offers
  19. Same deal with telegames, they sent out a non-dead unit straight away when they received the DOA one back from me.
  20. CJ, don't forget your JagCD has only been in use for around a year (BNOS) and it was the 2nd unit they sent as the first one was DOA (not a jammed spindle or any of that, properly dead right out of the box). Your 90 days were up a loooong time ago If people just use them to play the 13 or so games that were released and for playing audio CDs with the VLM (really? in 2011? okaaay...), then I imagine it probably does work fairly reliably. I'd say most people don't do that, they either leave them sat in the box as a part of a collection or use them for fun with post-Atari releases, homebrews, that kind of thing. This is where it falls on it's arse and becomes more about crossing fingers and using the force.
  21. Try linko's guide: http://www.linkovitch.me.uk/jaguar/cdrepair/stuck-platter.html
  22. Err... KM has 1 fire button, rebooteroids has more We know it'll be OK spinner-wise, it's A, B & C that are non-standard.
  23. Hi Smeg, Trim is not defined by the connected pad, but is user-definable. It allows you to fine-tune the ratio between the movement of your dial to movement in the game and have the spinner respond in a way that suits you better. Use the A and C buttons to adjust it up and down (higher values = more responsive). Of course, this means your VCS paddle will be stuck at a trim value of 3 if it lacks these buttons - the only work around I can think of for that is to spin the dial to switch to rotary, swap pads for a regular one, adjust the trim & then swap back - hardly worth the effort The T2K commander has the rocker button, I'm not 100% sure how that would work with trim on the menu (I contacted the creator a while back but I can't recall what he said right now, it was while we were working on Rebooteroids). Use of that pad could be a problem in 'roids and other games we have in the works in future as they will require unique presses of A, B and C for game functions. Possibly the use of keypad buttons could come to the rescue, but without having a pad to test with we'd not be sure how something plays. If anyone wants to be sure if their existing or future hacked rotaries work with our games, I'd suggest putting one in the hands of CJ. We've already spent over $350 on rotaries to get where we are now where we're happy it works with the three most popular devices: Chaos reins, Tyrant and Jonathan Ascough. As this code will be included in the Raptor release, there could well be a large number of rotary-enabled titles that use our methods.
  24. It does add a few little touches over the original but loses a little of the quick pick-up-and-play fun due to the slightly more strategic gameplay. Of course it'd be a simple upgrade ulilising the Raptor map module, but I don't think anyone would want it just yet, so we'll schedule that one for 2014.
