  1. Enough about tunnels and kissing, this is SERIOUS!!!111one

Rebooteroids factoid (since this thread is actually about our game): The previously-mentioned side-project that spawned from this game, which will most likely be our next release, has itself given back some love to it's Daddy in the form of an idea to make the bonus stages less random and more fun/challenging... I didn't say it was interesting, but at least there's light at the end of the tunnel for this thread.

There is some more information to pass on that's a fair bit more interesting, but that's up to CJ to write about on his blog one day.

  2. Are you still wanting me to help out with the Jag stuff Nick?

I am, in my stead, with as much of my stuff as you need. I'll be away on those dates so can't attend (and no, I'm not off to RGC on the same weekend either!). But we will endeavor to release something to mark the occasions.

  3. I also have mine sh3's hooked through some cheap Belikin unpowered USB2.0 hub and get speeds over 170Kb/s even with other devices plugged into the hub too.

*EDIT: corrected who's Skunk it is :D*

Bah, it's yours. skunkboards are for coders, not dusty boxes, same reason I gave one to Sauron and tried my best to get one to Stratagem/rg

  4. Not related at all in any way to an update on Rebooteroids, but I just built the latest version under aDOSbox on my Android tablet :)

(Now if only it could run it....)

You have an Android tablet! wow, you kept that one quiet :D

Is that like a suppository?? :P

    Is that a request?

  5. Ok, flashed Doom and the only problem was the 7kb/s speed.

I'm using my notebook connected direct to the skunkboard, using a 10 cm cable length.

Any idea why the flashing is so slow?

No idea why, but it is a known issue and use of a usb hub can solve it. If you have any kind of usb hub handy (powered or not), try putting that in your machine & the cable to the skunk from that.

  6. 1. Can I use any usb port? I'm about to buy a 5m long cable to use with my notebook in my couch but the cable that came with it uses that middle usb port one. That is the only one that is a mini-usb port.

But if I plug the usb cable in the other 2 connections can I still use it?

The two large USB sockets on the back of the skunk aren't used. You can only use the mini one on the top.

5m is long for a cable, I'm not sure if that might lead to any problems, I've only ever used 1.8m cables maximum with my skunks.

You might find transfers are slow (around 7k/second - they should be something like 180k/sec), if they are you'll need to use a hub. It is suggested that a powered hub should be used, but I found that unpowered hubs can help and sometimes powered ones do not always do the trick.

    2. How do I flash a rom?

Use the software from Tursi's site and type:

    JCP -f name_of_rom.rom

    For 2nd bank type:

    JCP -f -2 name_of_rom.rom

All the documentation you'll need is there on Tursi's site. Also, Belboz made a GUI for jcp if you're not a fan of command line stuff, the link to it on Tursi's site linked above is broken but you can find it in the downloads section of Belboz's site.

  7. I don't see why the Jag couldn't do Resident Evil tbh

But that's not the point... the Jaguar will only do what people such as your good self will make it do, who gives a flying Frog Feast what the Jaguar could do, it's only the stuff people are actually making it do that's at all interesting, surely? ;-)

True, BUT! :) I would never have thought of a resident evil style game on the jag if this thread wasn't about. So random threads about "oo wouldn't this be cool on the Jag" can be handy for getting the cogs turning :) (in my case anyway :D )

Not that I have a list of stuff I am thinking about adding to the list of stuff I have already decided I want to write :D

1st I need to finish off what I have started.. damn life getting in the way! :D

Yea, like you need to be adding to that list! Note to Jaguar Forum Users: please stop making linko's cogs spin! ;-)

  9. I dont see any reason why the Jag emulators cant do the same.

There you have it - the JagChris verdict - if your emulator doesn't run on a 5 year old PC you're doing it wrong!

FYI JagChris, read the text below, understand the statements above in the context they were made:

bsnes is an emulator that began development on 2004-10-14. The
purpose of this emulator is a bit different from others:
it focuses on accuracy, debugging functionality, and clean code.

The emulator does not focus on things that would hinder accuracy.
This includes speed and game-specific hacks for compatibility. As a
result, the minimum system requirements for bsnes are very high.

... fully mature... already fully mature...

  10. Jaguar on yet another top ten worst consoles - meh

"It's Summer, there's nothing worth talking about game-wise - let's stir up some fanbois and make this site look active" ;-)

Next week they can have a top ten worst system fanbois & base it on the comments below that article and every forum post that links to it...

  11. Did Surrounded ever get finished?

    Yes

Further down it says "Im simply covering my ass for when I finally(if I finally) finish the game and sell it on cart for Jag" so I'd say it's not finished. Maybe you could ask him next time you're in the proppa place for such questions ;-)

  12. My question is: Was the Mindlink officially canceled by Atari Inc. prior to Warner's sale of the company to Jack Tramiel because it was so cumbersome, or was it officially canceled by Tramiel after the sale as a cost-cutting measure, just as the HSC, 7800 keyboard etc. had been?

Maybe you should strap one on & ask a VCS ;-)

  13. Might be cheaper to just easyjet or ryanair it there and back the same day (that is if they fly to that part of germany), if you wanna cut down on shelling out for hotel accom. and spend more money at the computer fair

Pfffft where's the fun in that?! & excess baggage charges for all my jagcrap would break the bank - gaztee would need to reserve half the luggage compartments ;-)

The overnight ferry from Hull was super cheap when shw took me & Cal to Outline a little while back - and that had a cinema, bars and as many little ice creams as you can eat

  14. Been away for a long time but saw this thread and have been very excited about the possibility of another rotary game. I have also developed a mark 2 controller that still has the d pad intact as well as rotary ability. If you already have one of my controllers the mk 2 will no doubt be compatable with your game. only 1 mk2 has been sold so far and a second one is in construction. Hope this helps and wish you luck with the developement of your game.

Cheers, Jonathan. Your mkII pad sounds good - I'm forever switching pads while testing stuff, it would have been perfect for AC2011 this year when switching from game to game when demonstrating ;-)

While working on Rebooteroids, CJ started a little side project using parts of that and an early incarnation of something else he's been busy with. Currently (after only a few hours additional work really), we have the beginnings of another rotary game that is plenty different enough to 'roids to be worth a release/all the effort of asset creation/etc. and is sure to be ready before Rebooteroids as it's not nearly as involved. It'll be BJL/ULS compatible and will use exactly the same rotary code & sensitivity adjustments as 'roids, so people will be able to give that a go & see how it works for them (it'd be interesting to hear how it works with old driving controller hacks and some more fruity rotaries people have made themselves). Another point of note is that there's probably only going to be one fire/action button in this game, so it should work fine with dannygalaga's t2k commander, too.

Hopefully these games plus a few more we are considering (and at least one non-game little release) will help stimulate more demand for rotary controllers & keep yourself, Tyrant, Chaos Reins & dannygalaga busy making more pads :)

  15. I'd love to come, and I think this year for once I'll just about be able to afford it too! What are sleeping arrangements like over there, and how pricey are the hotels?

Sleeping on the floor is free* - the hardcore Atari way :)

*except e-jagfest is a 1-dayer and there's no floor to sleep on, oops!
