  1. Nothing to do with me as CJ's ST stuff is his own thing, but I personally wouldn't let the actions of the greedy and the stupid dictate how I went about doing the things I enjoy doing.

As long as people know what's up and who has been stepping over the line at the expense of practically every Jaguar dev active today, at least they can make an informed decision when it comes to spending their money, especially if it involves sending $200+ of hardware around the country/world.

I can't post what else was discovered in public, because it's not directly related, not really appropriate and, well, drama... but to anyone who was suggesting this was all some kind of ruse (and there were one or two of the usual suspect who aren't allowed to play around here anymore saying just that from the safety of facebook and twitter)... nope, the iffy side of questionable is putting it mildly.

  2. I heard of a guy who kept his jaguar CD unit in the freezer. Swore blind it made the laser work better with CD-Rs. Forgot to take his meds one morning and ended up stuffing it with garlic and herbs, roasting it for 4 hours at 220 degrees, middle shelf, turning occasionally until golden brown and tender on the inside.

    True story.

  3. I Disagree..

    Naturellement.

3DO is same or little weaker than jag.. but most games "look" stronger for its time.. (now they aged bader than some jaggames and things turnd.. but thats my opinion.. )

the reason? the jag got "do the math"..

there are 2 "do the math" on the jag.. one is a slogan for the customer to make advertising

and the other is for the programmers to let them know they have to "do the math" for everyting they want on the jag :(

so this "do the math" is the biggest problem when you have or wanna do "nextgen" games..

because if you not able to make that "math" for it.. the jag (or lets say the devkit&Libs) didnt do it for you or even might help you ;-)

The 3do does.. because it had that "nextgen" math inside its public devkit and devlibs..

  4. A more interesting comparison is probably...

    snip.

A more interesting comparison is probably the hardware platforms, what they offered and how the systems were set up for devs to go and create.

    Jaguar = Superpowered MegaDrive/Genesis.

    3DO = Underpowered PlayStation precursor.

They might have dropped at similar times, but one had it's feet firmly in the past and the other a toe in the future.

Jaguar was just 2 years+ LTTP. By the time it finally arrived, the way games were being made was already changing.

  5. All I notice is you getting far to caught up in technicalities. vapourware or unreleased prototype(s), to me, the end user, it is all the same.

You are dead right of course - it's technically correct to call JagCF vapourware. "Something that is announced, never manufactured or officially cancelled". I suppose that fits the bill. Often, though, there are negative connotations with the word and in this case that wouldn't be fair (not saying this is how you used it, only that it is often used and reads back that way). Some shadier outfits use vapourware as a tactic to piss off others, usually competitors, to keep potential customers dangling. That's probably why some people object to the use of the word, because it can mean different things.

JagCF was a bit of a stepping stone. From what I gathered, the person/people behind it just didn't like the opposition from certain quarters, the piracy/pitchforks kids and all their rabble rousing, FUD and clever spoiling tactics such as buying the domain name and pointing it to jaguar sector II etc... really putting the ARSE in jaguARSEctor as it were.

Funniest thing there, though, is that idiot has to keep reupping it and paying for domain privacy - nelsonhaha.gif

There's no need for us to be poking and prodding each other over semantics though, we should have tougher skin than that, and you meant no harm in the way you used the word, Gunstar. JagCF never came about, Vapourware it technically is, yet it could have quite easily made it out given a more pleasant, trusting and, frankly, less blinkered reception. But things were very different back then. While I'm here, I'll point out it wasn't demoed at ejagfest, but it was shown at multiple RGC events (these are easily confused if you've never been to them but have seen what goes on there - both have been equally important to a passionate and hyper-productive Euro Jaguar scene down the years). JagCF Vs1, 2 and 3 can be seen on SCPCD's site. It then made way for even more interesting things, the kinds of stuff certain individuals would talk and talk about doing but never lifted a finger to make happen, unlike SCPCD.

So mad props to that guy, the creator of Jagtopus, JagCF and all kinds of awesome tech that is ensuring Jaguar has a future beyond what Atari shoved out back in '93 and will likely keep me sat fiddling around making stuff for the rest of my years, even if it's only to an audience on me, myself and I :P

  6. It's no joke to me, just sad to see some guys who do contribute to this community in a vs battle, one repairing broken JagCD:s to second life, the other side software developers = constructive feedback.

I read this and THAT thread, which both of us already have read I reckon. How can anyone be constructive in the CF thread?

I might be one that suffer on basis of this vs., not only one side of it.

Repairing broken JagCDs and dishing out the warez. That's no contribution - that's taking money for doing a job and fucking over other people to fill his pockets while he's at it.

If you see what he does as any way up there with people making games that's a twisted view of what's going on.

  7. I know you have a fairly harsh stance on DLC, Mord :0) But I dunno about the DLC being stripped-down content that should have been in game to begin with. The games seem to get bigger and more involved each time with a few nice little measures to lessen the pain of the grins, mostly adding a few things and changing up a few others. I think I only ever bought in to the Disgaea 3 DLC, and it mostly seemed to be fairly trivial fan service stuff and from what I remember, nothing substantial. And wasn't it all included with the handheld version later? Thinking about it, that could have been a game where the EU didn't get all DLC, but I'd imported the US game and could use my US account to buy the lot in a bundle.

  8. Ok, this just proves how stupid some collectors are when they have been publicly released FOR FREE. Hell if you follow any of the major sources for news on the Jag you're bound to find out about the games and where to get them FOR FREE. CyranoJ should put a nice big disclaimer before the menu screen loads that the game was released to the public thats if he ever decides to continue in light of this.... Some of those very old BJL demos are on all kinds of websites and have been for a very long time.

Again, who cares about the freely-released stuff?

That guy listed Matthis', Orion's, Our and other paid-for releases in his warez library. Fuck that.

  9. It may be my english but i have a problem understanding what this guy is saying.

    He's a fucking crackerhead, that's why.

    High level drama...

    I'm glad I'm only on lvl 21.

Hope yall come out intact in the other end.

It might be a joking matter to you, but it's important to some of us. If you have nothing constructive to add, why not just STFU and go read the Checkered Flag thread or something.

  10. Don't you just love messy old threads rising from the grave?

Thanks for posting this Curt! I am interested in the music score and want to put the complete soundtrack back together.

I found the samples and midi score but does somebody know how to convert the (compiled midi score *.scr or *.bin) to readable *.mid or other tracker format?

    Thanks

Maybe it's QSound stuff, you could try looking here:

  11. There's a very selective memory syndrome when it comes to homebrew releases.

Maybe. It's probably much simpler that that, though.

The kinds of people who sit around on forums talking about this stuff and filling those carefully ordered shelves with precisely catergorised boxes aren't usually those best qualified to be stating what any particular game is or is not. Leave them to their incisive discussion and don't waste your time with it.

    Speaking of wasting time...

  12. Put a 1 pixel high object at the floor, and use the collision detection to test for a hit. Offload this stuff to RAPTOR.

That's not what he wants to manage. On death, these objects are frozen - he wants to remove them one by one and make a show of it from bottom to top and they will not necessarily be in any original order such as the order they appear in the list.

  13.

I don't recall lying or being misleading when talking about developers. Earlier this year I did have a two hour face-to-face meeting, at Konami's El Segundo HQ with Michael Rajna, Konami's Director of Marketing & Licenses. He is a big retro gamer and liked what we were doing. We discussed brining back some old Konami arcade IP in the form of new games (like Resogun did with Defender) on RVGS. He was all for it but indicated they would like to wait it out until the product got more fleshed out. He did kindly ask me to not discuss Konami's involvement until we a had signed deal. As I said this was early on and I was gauging interest and there was and is some legitimate interest here. I recall a post here from someone stating that "some people consider emailing a company PR person as being in discussions with ....." And that was certainly never the case with any of my contacts with any of the developers I said we talked with.

Well it's all about the games. If Konami made a Metal Gear for this system, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

If Konami CBA making games for systems with 20 million+ users, why would they go anywhere near RVGS? They've fucked the bed and are only interested in tugging the titties of their IP in any way possible that requires little to no effort - which is no doubt how Mike got through their door. No matter what went down with the meeting between him and the retro gaming fan Konami exec., nothing was and nothing will ever come of that. Don't delude yourself.

Maybe if RVGS has a coin slot and a guy can come and empty it every week, that might work...

  14. OK I know what game you are making and what you want to achieve. If I were doing it I'd simply cycle through all active objects of this type reading the y values, make the largest one inactive, do the assplosion and repeat for as many active objects of that type there are. There's no need to grab and sort the y values, just zap the biggest one every iteration.

  15. I wouldn't give that poll too much consideration, if I were in Mike's place. That poll was conducted before the dust had a chance to settle, and people were still laughing along with the guys who made parody videos, and before Mike posted his update/explaination/apology in this tread. If anything, the poll simply demonstrates to Mike that he needs to get his act together and show us a finalized prototype for round 2. And this prototype better have some good specs that we can all get excited about or it isn't going to fly.

Similarly, ignore the 16k+ LIKEs on facebook - they are beyond meaningless. If that's the extent of the market research, it's not going to be much fun going forward.

  16. nice one junosix.

I scanned some of my dealer-side material a few years ago, but unfortunately I don't think Albert has much time to update that kind of stuff these days. I know right now he's especially busy preparing for PRGE.

    Thanks for sharing!

  17. Not a lot of people know that Silent Hill was originally a Jaguar title. Toyama was a big Jaguar fan BITD and prototyped what went on to become the game we all know and fear using a stub Jaguar, an Alpine board, 3 yards of insulating tape and several buckets of Vaseline. Yamaoka was also the first person to successfully rip the Tempest 2000 mod player, well before SInister Developments, and actually composed all the audio that is present in the PS game in MadTracker on the PC.

If you don't believe me, I can bootleg some video of the PlayStation game from YouTube, get someone to make a cinepak disc (because I'm too pigshit thick to do it for myself) and sell it to you for £25 a pop - what more evidence would someone need? For £64 each, I can produce a Special Edition version where I turn on "best quality" mode on my inkjet printer for that truly professional look and use branded CD-R media with extra glossy stick-on labels.

The Jaguar community gives you all the ups and downs of a good survival horror in itself :)

Atari Jaguar - You want in?

    You really want in?
