Just want to point out that is not my opinion, I think the price increase happened over time as they attempted to cram more functionality and possibilities in there, maybe with a touch of cold hard reality as the numbers crept higher and higher and the practicalities of what they were attempting hit home. And I think you are right remow, it's hard to imagine everything falling into place and people getting what they would have pledged for and on time. There's like three kickstarters worth of stuff or more in that one all-encompassing ubercampaign. And it wouldn't have taken much for things to snowball/domino effect/however you want to put it. Then people would have pointed and claimed "scam", regardless of how that played out. -

Is running off with money the line in the sand? Cross that and it matters, do or say anything deemed not quite as naughty as outright theft and you're all good? It's not all dollar dollar bills. From reading this and other threads like it, some people feel they were due an apology due to being branded trolls/haters for simply stating an opinion that differed to the picture being painted by the RVGS team; having valid questions and whole discussion threads vanished from facebook, being led up the garden path with name dropping and so on. 16,000+ facebook likes convert into around 150 console pledges for a reason. Firstly, because facebook is a cesspit of likely-clicky throwaway superficial bullshit, but secondly, because a number consider the whole deal to be something of a bait and switch. -

Thing is, maybe it's best to step forward with a project like this having already done the kind of work kevtris has, rather than be in a position where you need your backers to pay someone $100k to prototype it while you stand around waving a couple of pieces of plastic and relaying dreams of RetroLand. -

Where did this post come from? At this point in the thread, after John has left, most of the talk is revolving around the three of them and how they each seemed to be pulling in a different direction. There's no dogpile and the chorus of hate/tar and feathers simply did not happen. Also, there's a huge difference between being in over your head/naive and being wilfully misleading (for instance, name dropping big name companies and games over the past 6 months, doing little to alert the potential audience of the downplay of the FPGA to the point that at the first funding goal, it is practically non-existent, exaggerating costs and savings such as the figures quotes for using the Jaguar shell, being interviewed by someone who is producing software for your device and potentially further undisclosed vested interests in the project (given his use of the words "our campaign" in said interview), and passing it off as a neutral 3rd party, etc., etc., etc.). He's not being singled out here, but it just happens to be that he's been the public face of the project and has uttered the most words on the subject - and that's a lot of information to cross-reference, analyse and dissect given that almost every time another member of the team uttered anything it seemed there was something amiss or not quite aligned. Nobody is anonymous here. The vast majority of people actively involved with this discussion are not hit-and-run dogpilers, but people who continue to contribute to this hobby and have done so for years. Sure, there might be one or two "dicks" who jump in and shitpost, but that's few and far between - and there are an equally tiny number of unofficial PR reps and superfans that offer just as much value in their posting - i.e. none whatsoever. -
Noel, gotta hand it to you, I know exactly where you stand :0) So when is onalok going to come forward and tell us who he bought all those bootlegs from? Because the 24 hours are up and I don't see a PM or post in this forum anywhere... The ST stuff is not the issue here - it's the products of active independent publishers/homebrewers/call them what you will, that are being bootlegged.

Is that a rush parody account or a sorry attempt at humor from a dupe account? Either way, yaaaaaawwwnnnn.
-
letsnotgothere.gif :0) kevincal's latest account is now banned (along with one or two more, tsk tsk), we should let the thread die as a testament to his longstanding hard work and support of the jaguar "community" and his unfortunate inability to leave us here in peace once and for all.

Where to begin with that? Probably best not to! This thread... -
I think the phrase you are looking for is "sub-8-bit".

It hasn't taken this long - it's not the first time. Hawken was one of those who did the most to further that kind of FUD and ensure the drama surrounding it had every last ounce squeezed from it, yet it was he who ended up being the one to originally have exactly this kind of list and his own little production facility running stuff off via that retro forum, selling discs by the 50 and 100. So meh. We all know stuff is floating around online, that can never be helped and nobody really gets hurt bar a few poor CD-Rs - that's why we put our stuff up so people can do exactly that for themselves. Doesn't make it public domain and a free-for-all though. That someone is going to the effort of cataloguing and listing titles and selling them in bulk is entirely another. That's just scumcuntery.
-
Yeah that can't and won't happen. But at the same time, this leeching off the devs can't be allowed to continue and we need to know who is involved. It's not just us who put money into making the games that are getting screwed over, it's also the people like Console5, Good Deal Games, RGCD and Atari Age who put up big lumps of cash themselves to take stocks or produce these games that are being chucked out on crappy CD-R for a fraction of the cost it takes to do it properly and compensate everyone involved who put their own time/money/effort in.

cool blog, bro.

I was pretty meh about this when I thought it was those ST games because their existence itself is questionable and nobody has any rights over any of it. But I honestly can't believe this crap is happening again. When Hawken was found to be doing the same in private via that half-arsed "retro gaming hub" forum he was balls-deep in, I thought only someone as unhinged and detached from any good aspect of the scene could do stuff like that - offering bootlegs of homebrew/independently published/3rd party published games. Impulse X Robinson's Requiem Elansar Philia Our stuff and the list goes on. That's just a middle finger to each and every active game producer out there.
-
lolol OK, that's a little more extensive than I thought. Selling bootlegs of current homebrews, retail Atari games and, well, pretty much anything that could end up on a CD and boot... Well - one thing happens today or the witch hunt commences. Whoever is doing this comes forward, or someone else points the finger, because this shit is just not going to happen. Understood?

I'd take anything learned in some random PM with a refusal to give further details with one of these: People are stupid. If they want to pay some dipshit money for burning CDs of ST games, let them, we can all stand around and point and laugh. Or maybe just not give two shits. We've known for years that for many, Jaguar games aren't things to be experienced, they're an opportunity to adorn their walls with trophies and exchange green pieces of paper. If you stop doing what you do just because some dork on the breadline is subsidising his rent or utility bills by toasting CD-Rs I think that's possibly the worst outcome for everyone. But I will say this: Fuck You to anyone who buys this crap in the first place... but your idiocy and the shame it brings about should be punishment enough. And whoever sent this PM and won't give up the person they bought it from - a bigger Fuck You. All you did was create drama and have people pointing fingers and considering Gorfian witch hunts. Well Fucking Done.

Felyx's afforts with Jag CD covers are not unknown here. We have a thread and many posts.

It's not where you put it, it's the size and how freely it spins that counts.

That can't have been easy, most people would have melted back into the bushes like Homer. Something to be said for that at least. Or, cheeky cynical mode on, can we expect to see kevtris reinstated as a member of the team if Florida's "unofficial" RVGS PR machine is now OK with him? -

Whatever yo say, Roberta. You just happened to be their biggest superfan and unofficial PR. See you next year!
