Could it be that the Power Supply does not have enough *juice* for what the GVP HD8+ Impact II SCSI requires? Could you post a photo of your actual setup? The requirements, since I helped a friend of mine with a similar problem back in 2010, are the following ones: - [email protected] - [email protected] Instabilities may be a result of failing to meet wattage request.

You can find more informations here: http://www.retro-commodore.eu/2014/04/12/c1084-power-switch-replacement/ It is far from being a common part, replacing it seems to be the only viable solution though. Cheers, Oge

Yes, Sega Genesis Controllers cause damage on CIA chips and this applies to Amiga as well (though I've seen that they're less prone to problems, but having a Joypad a DB9 Connector does not automatically mean that it will work on any Commodore). This applies to Atari as well: TTL High signals have ~3V while the machine expect simply a GND>Pin connection. The Sega Master System Controller does not have TTL High signals so it is safer.

If I were to replace capacitors to a Genesis, I would use Low E.S.R. or Tantalum ones just to be sure that I will not downgrade the overall quality of the circuit. In case you are in doubt about one or more capacitors installed backwards, just practice with an old PC motherboard before recapping the Genesis again. If the request is for a [email protected] capacitor, use [email protected] for a longer lifespan of the capacitor itself. You do it once, and you're done.

Cool collection! Cheers, Oge

Intermittent functionality is often related to one or more cold solder joints. It would help to clean the whole motherboard with abundant CRC and then resolder as many connections as possible. Are voltages okay?

Surely there are, but it is still not a pure sinewave. And some UPSes continuously feed this simulated AC while cheap ones only when there is a brownout (it usually even more spurious). Some people suggests UPS (regardless of their budget) for powering Switching Power Supplies such as PC ATX ones. They usually do not have problems as they do not have Trafos inside of them.

When repairing it takes too much time and too much efforts. Furthermore, the more ICs and components you have to desolder and then resolder, the higher the chance to cut a trace and makes things worse. Sometimes repairing a Breadbin, as an example, requires several attempts and you end up going berserk and replace components till it works (it happened )

A very slight lag IIRC. You should use an ol' school (early) S-Video>VGA converter which is usually less cheap than a nowadays one.
