Isn't direct the exact opposite of what he is posting? Instead of treating us like we're a stupid drunk prom date who will believe anything, why not be direct and say "yeah, I posted something political in the heat of the moment, so sue me bitches"? He squeezed out a little political fart. It's not a big deal. We all know his explanations are pure, stinky B.S., so why not just admit to farting and move on?SPeak for yourself, dude.. You dont know me from the man in the moon.. I don't associate myself with ANY of that political BS from either "side". Everything Ive seen in the past 20 years from any group calling themselves a "political party" is total crap, and anyone who believes it is a total idiot.
When I state my point of view, it is purely concepts that I myself REALLY DO believe in, stand behind, and claim complete responsibility for. And Ive done more than explain myself here.. So either take my explanation, or choose to believe I meant something other than what I have said.. It's a damn rediculous argument, if you ask me.. And I am tired of it..
If you are tired of it then why do you keep on responding. They have there opinions and it is obvious that you are not going to get them to change, so just let it go already.

Thanks guys, glad you like 'em.

I'm having fun with these! Here's more of a mock-up, featuring my favorite of them all!!!

EDIT: End label added.
My vote goes for this one from PAC-MAN PRIME. definitely prefer the 7800 being maroon instead of purple, with the 1984 label design.

Nope. This is an Edsel.

Nice car. I would love to own a Edsel some day.

I love Kung Fu Master on the 2600! It's a great looking game it has some of the best graphics on the 2600. It also has great music and sound. The fact that you can kick punch leg sweep and jump all with one button and a joystick is just awesome. Plus the dragons appearing blowing fire at you and fading away is one of the best looking things on ANY 2600 game if you ask me. After Tapper this is to me the most underrated game on the 2600. I also find Kung Fu Master to be even more fun playing it with a SEGA controller or an atari joypad. By the way I posted this same thread a few years back I wanna see if there are anymore fans of the game now than there were back then.
I would love to find the Atari 7800 version of it.

I just hope the angry people can find all the bugs.
No bugs found by the beta testers so far. The tool has been used in all my 7800 games apart from the Tempest port so its had quite a bit of testing.
Wait there is a port of tempest for the 7800, when is that coming out :!:

What is your opinion of the musical capabilities of the two systems. I noticed while listening to the intro's to Turrican one and two that a lot of people. I am guessing amiga fans were saying those videos were fake just because it said original amiga graphics and then listed the designers name. They could not belive the music was coming from a actual Atari ST. Is it a large group of people that underestimate the Atari ST when it comes to sound or just a small group. Love how some programmers could really push the Atari ST. Seems these days developers do not try as hard. Plus it seems with technology, it is always advancing so they do not have to work hard. What happened to having a computer part last 5 or so years instead of becoming obsolete within a few months.

Thanks for the comments. Right now I am in the process of possibly buying a Atari 600XL with expanded memory from jaybird3rd. I was also able to buy a copy of Track and Field for 5 dollars. Is that a good price for the game.
-
I was wondering will this work with a Expanded Atari 600XL that already has 64K or ram.Have a nice day.

What are your guys opinion of jaybird3rd. I am thinking of getting a computer he is selling. It is a Atari 600XL, I've got an extra boxed unit that's in great shape and includes 64K of RAM (via an internal upgrade that I added). He is asking 45 dollars plus shipping. Is that a fair price. What is his reputation.

Oh gawd
With all due respect, having this thread in the A8 and the 7800 forums seems like an attempt to provoke a cross-forum flame war. As I wrote in the 7800 forum as well, how about we all take a deep ole' breath and spend the afternoon playing fun games on our 7800s and A8's?
Egad ....
Meanwhile, on good ole Drac's TV ...
Yeah, the topic wasn't about which is better (technically), but whether someone should have one or both and some other variables.
If you go on the technical level there's miles of trade-offs with both (the 7800's hardware is technically newer, more efficient, and more advanced, but also crippled by the low-cost requirement for the design and being frozen for production in early 1984 -albeit there's some odd design trade-offs that you could argue shouldn't have been made, even without hindsight -with hindsight of the 1986 release there's obviously tons of modifications that could have been made and still retained very low cost and compatibility). Not nearly as straightforward as the 5200 where the technical capabilities are virtually identical. (other than the closed architecture of the 5200 -even the stock controller issues can be bypassed with low-precision analog joysticks using pull-up resistors for pseudo 8-way control -with 8 analog states fallign within the acceptable ranges for games assumign full-throw pot based controllers, better buttons, etc, or better quality high precision analog stick -I'm leaving it at that as I don't want to start the digital vs analog crap again and the 5200 comment was off topic anyway
)Then there's the real-world side for the existing libraries and homebrew support, the 7800 has many fewer games but quite a few that are very notable and/or exclusive (or absent from the A8) and better than the A8 version (or different enough to merit both versions). Though it also depends on your preferred genres and if you care for the convenience of having built-in 2600 support with better placement of the joysticks as well. And that's what the topic was about before it got derailed.
(and even if you did favor the A8 you'd have to determine the model preferred as well 800/400 with 4 ports and only up to 48k -normally and iirc 64k+ mods aren't compatible with the MMU scheme later used- vs the added RAM and compact form factor of some later models but lack of the 4 ports a handful of programs take advantage of)Sorry about that guys. I did not think people would go so overkill when I posted this thread. Just wanted some opinions on the systems from people that have owned them.

What do you guys think of this deal.
eBay Auction -- Item Number: 300518062149
I am still thinking of getting the 600XL just for the reason that I can buy the Ram expansion off of this site and not do any moding to get it to work on the 800XL. Plus I am a little tight on money. I will be selling my TI-99/4A so I can afford to buy the computer, hopefully no more then 40 for this one I have listed here. Plus have some more money left over so I can buy some more games like Donkey Kong JR. Though There is a 7800 version in box listed for 10 dollars buy it now plus 5 shipping that I am thinking of getting.

The thing is I have never owned a classic computer, I grew up with consoles and just recently got into computer gaming, so I figured the 7800 would have been a better choice as it was a console and I currently do not own any 8-bit consoles besides it.
I hear this comment quite often. The thing is, the 8-bit computers can be used solely as a console, if one chooses. The 8-bits have a cartridge port and many good titles that can be run from it. There are also multicarts available. You can own the system and never have to deal with any other medium. Of course you'll miss a lot. Point is, I consider the 8-bits a computer/console. When I first got mine, I used nothing other than cartridges for about a year.
I have heard that with a floppy drive, all you do is insert the floppy then turn on the system and it loads automatically like a cart, is that true? If so I would not mind floppy's. Currently have a TI-99/4A that I am selling because of the lack of games. Plus I can not seem to remember the load command half of the time. To used to MSDOS I guess.

I am currently looking for a Atari 600XL. Would like if it came with some games and floppy drive but not required. Interested in all offers. Does need a RF adapter (RCA to Coax) so I will not have to deal with a switchbox. Thanks for your time.
-
I intend to buy either a 600XL or 800XL.
I will buy if they are all type of new Games. Yes I will pay for new carts. I would pay less then 49.95.
I would like platformers, shooters, and side scrollers.

Hi, good news for all interested in this card. You can order it again. Note this is exactly the same card as the first batch, It does not fix any issues with a buggy CPUs.
The price is the same as before:
25 EUR for the bare/naked card (no enclosure)
30 EUR for the standard one
3 EUR for the optional power pigtail cable needed for unmodified 800XLs
The shipping cost (registered package) is 5 EUR over Europe or 6-7 EUR outside Europe.
However, because some parts are now slightly more expensive, I had to add a compensation fee for a paypal transfers. Thus, please add 3.5% to the total price.
Please make your orders via PM. Thanks!
How much would is cost to ship to the USA. What would the cost be in dollars.Thank you for your time.

I was wondering is it worth getting a 600XL verses a 800XL and what is a good price for a 600XL. I have found one on ebay. The starting bid is 5 dollars and shipping is 15.Computer is in excellent condition and works great! All self tests passed perfect. If your a vintage computer collector or just like playing old video games this is the computer for you. I have include the new style RF adapter to connect the computer to your tv (small silver connector in picture). Items included:
* 600XL Computer
* Power Supply
* TV connect cable
* RF adapter (RCA to Coax)
* Original Box and Packaging (worn)
What would be a good price including shipping for it.

Looks good so far. I would love to hear the ingame music/music for Gauntlet. Seeing as it uses the Pokey chip right. Which as everyone now's is awesome for chip tune music.
-
I would grab an 800xl and get the AtariMax programmer. What a great combo.
Thanks. I was going to ask what XL computer do you guys think I should go with. I like the top loading design of the 800XL but also like the 1200XL for some reason. which of the two would you pick.

What is your opinion of the Atari 800XL package from Atari-sales for 74.95 with a s-video cable.
I own one and am very pleased with it. I will say that it's not an 800XL but rather an upgraded 600XL with a "Atari XL" sticker over the 600XL name plate if that matters. The s-video quality is superb. I didn't think it was a bad price but others might say different. You might be able to get it cheaper if you get the machine and do the upgrade yourself.
tjb
Thanks for the response. I am not confident enough to do the upgrade myself, also how is it upgraded from the 600XL.

I've had the same issue between the 8-bit and the 5200, and never could make up my mind. Now I'm actually shrinking my system collection, so it has become a non-issue.
My advice is to just get a good emulator for the computers to give it a try. I mean, a decent emulator of a computer, running on a computer, should give you a pretty solid idea on if you want to start investing in the thing. It's a pretty apples to apples comparision between a computer emulated on a computer, and the original machine.
what emulators would you recommend getting?

Should be getting a Atari 600XL with 64K of memory in a week or two. Still kept the 7800, can't wait for Outrun,Space harrier, and Wolfenstein 3D to come out. Still amazing what they were able to get out of 1979 tech. Warner should have made it into a console with a lock-out chip and replaced the Atari 2600 like Nolan Bushnell wanted in the first place instead of a computer. Who knows maybe then the game crash would have never started. Or at least had the 5200 with a lock-chip, able to play the computer games, kept the original design of the controllers and backwards compatible with the 2600, and had the full 48K or more of memory and they probably could have had something that lasted till the Genesis. How things could have gone so much differently.
