  1. I don't know if there are very many "good" EM handhelds as their gameplay is limited. But heck, they're nifty. :) And yeah Tomy had a lot as mentioned.. with BLIP being the big first one that used batteries that I was aware of. That's always a good one to have.

     

    One thing you could always check out were the Tomy Pocket line.. there's lots of them, and some better than others. My favorite one was Frog Fight where I would challenge my brother. :P Most are just pachinko/style variation things though where you shoot a ball around..

  2. Hello. I have recently got into collecting hand-helds and have noticed some people mention electro-mechanical ones when talking of ones before the original game-boy. What do they mean exactly by mechanical and what are some good ones to get. They did mention Tomy mini arcade and Tomy's in general, Plus good prices. Thanks for your time.


  3. modern cartoons in general seem to have that "was drawn by a 5 year old look". I wish cartoons were still the way they were back in the 90's during the Disney hour or what ever it was called, cartoons like Tailspin, Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, TMNT, Rocko's modern life, and Gargoyles. Those were shows that the money they spent on them showed like the animations in Tailspin and Gargoyles. Why can't modern cartoons look like they actually spent time trying to draw them professionally.

    Bugs Bunny (the old ones) are great. Just can't stop watching the bunny and his cross-dressing ways, and how Wiley always manages to blow himself up and fall off the cliffs. :) The new ones are not bad, but have lost a bit of their Bugsie flare.

    the classic looney toons are hilarious, too bad if they tried to do that these days parents would complain about it being to violent and making there kids do things they should not do, like the Cookie monster making kids fat. Actually have a couple seasons of Looney Toons on LaserDisc.


  4. Sweeeeet. It's about damn time (that one on the GBA was, well.. errm.. yeah).

    It looks awesome, looks like SEGA is finally getting back to working on some of its older franchises. Hopefully they bring Daytona and some of the other franchises too.

  5. Anything to be associated with something good nathanallan, which in this case is the only way such a show will ever be considered "good".

     

    @7800fan: Yes, it is indeed a shame kid's cartoons have sunk to such a low. It's a disgrace to new people who will at this rate, end up never appreciating ANYTHING half-way decent, let alone fully good.

     

    That's why I plan on getting as many of the old cartoons on DVD or youtube, thanks to them I can make sure my kids watch quality cartoons. Plus the old Sesame Street before they made the cookie monster the veggie monster.


  6. I don't care what kind of plugs this show has to vintage gaming. It is a retarded ass show. I can't get over that fucking UGLY art style! YUCK.

     

    I've noticed this a lot with new pieces of entertainment for hipsters. They're all starting to have references to old gaming and I am getting sick and tired of it. Stop associating yourself with vintage gaming, it does NOT make you or your media any cooler.

On the plus side it looks like Cartoon Network has decided to make a new Looney Toons show, have not watched it enough to make a decision on whether or not it is good.


  7. The CPU is irrelevant on modern systems. The bottleneck is now the GPU. Most GPUs of the same generation are reasonably equivalent in terms of functionality. I'm sure we won't be seeing any form of bit wars ever again.

     

    The CPU did matter in the pre-3D days as it handled most or all functions in software. The data bus was an easy method of guessing which system had more advanced features. We can see from the Nintendo 64 that it isn't always accurate. Although, I suspect the Nintendo was 64 bit more to satisfy their deal with Rambus than for true performance.

    Which I find strange the people used to make comments about the PC engine for saying it was 16-bit even though it had a 8-bit CPU, that's just like how modern systems with the GPU being what is most important. They were just ahead of there time.


  8. I never understood the idea of bit wars. If a game is fun, I don't care what the systems specs are.

    I agree, unluckily enough though the spec part still seems to go on today with people that say none of the Wii games are fun because they look worse and because the system is not strong enough to be considered part of the next gen(this generation).

    Who are these "people" that say a game can't be fun because it looks like it's from a previous generation? That's like the worst argument I've ever heard. :lol:

     

    As for the bit wars...they're dead. It was market-speak and didn't accurately portray the quality of the games. They might as well be arguing console color schemes.

     

    mostly from more modern games like my younger brothers friends who say that if a game looks bad it is not fun, in there opinion a game has to be fun to play and look good to be considered good. They say the Wii is just a babies toy because it can't handle the games that are on the PS3 and that it looks last gen. Same thing with the PSP versus DS.

I have noticed on many comparison videos on YouTube comparing games that were on the PC engine/TurboGrafx, Genesis, and SNES that there is at least one person who starts to bring up bits and how the TurboGrafx is actually 8-bit just because its CPU is not 16-bit. Brick wall Which I find aggravating and strange seeing as consoles since the PS1 have relied on GPU's just like how the TurboGrafx did. consoles these days run off of 32-64 bit CPU's so by there thinking modern consoles are still 32-64 bit which makes no sense it is the GPU that matters right? What are other people's thoughts on this. Thanks for your time.


  11. Just wondering where did you get three times over. The only one that is total crap was the 32X, the CD was a little better and the Saturn while not there best was not any where near as bad, maybe twice on the 32X and CD or even just once on the 32X but not three times.

     

    Again, I'm not commenting on the merits of any of the hardware or games, just on the advantages/disadvantages each company had at the time. The Saturn was slowing down significantly by the end of 1997 (two years before the release of the DC). To the general public, it was perceived as being yet another system that Sega was abandoning. Perhaps isolated from the history of the CD and 32X, the Saturn wouldn't be seen so negatively... but unfortunately the gaming public looked at the CD-32X-Saturn timeline and collectively thought "Wow, Sega hasn't really hit a home run since the Genesis." In late 1999, consumer goodwill was NOT something Sega had as an asset.

     

    That was the line of thinking that led people to avoid buying Dreamcasts. Even the people who DID buy one often had an attitude of "Well, it's Sega, so I'll just enjoy it until they discontinue it." Which, of course, is exactly what happened.

    Actually people bought Dreamcasts in droves!Theyhad some very large initial sales numbers. It was really groundbreaking and an easy sales during the 1st year. It really was a gamechanger, Sadly people had SONY itus and when they knew ps2 was coming, that was it.

     

    Plus the PS2 did have DVD, it seems like so far with every console Sony puts out they try to revolutionize the gaming market with some new type of format. PS1 was CD(yes saturn was out first but only by a few months). Then the PS2 had DVD which took off quit quickly, then they tried again with the PS3 and Blue-ray. Too bad for them that idea and timing came to bite them in the butt somewhat, seeing as Blue-ray has not taken over as quickly as DVD did which seems to have cost them money in the long run.

    Now as for sony itus, yes there brand name was stronger and that's the thing. Back then and even now some people buy a product just based on the brand of the console manufacturer. people saw the name Sony and thought it would be just like the PS1 again which it did eventually. Which is what I hate, is when people buy and defend a console just because it might be from a certain brand. That's why I generally wait to buy a console a year or so until they have the bugs worked out and have a good game lineup. Except for the Dreamcast of course, that first day buy was a leap of fate and it paid off for the time it was out, plus there were Japanese imports. Of course there is the Wii which I just bought last Christmas, because it took 5 years before it had enough games that interested me and made the cost worth it(of course now there is a new console but oh well.)


  12. Or the MultiTap adaptor by Steven Moss. Looks a bit like a TeamTap, but designed specifically for Worms and only worms. Lets each player have their own controller even though the game only supports hotseat mode.

     

    This would make Worms a lot more fun. Does the tap wire the controllers in series?

    No, that is not even possible.

     

    It monitors each controller port for a keypad button 9 press (not used by Worms).

    When it detects that full access between the controller in that port and the Jaguar is permitted while full access to the other ports is blocked. The LEDs in to top of the unit show which port (numbered 1 - 4) is active and Worms Overlays with backgounds coded to team text colours are provided to help players identify which team they are and thus when it is their turn.

     

    That's a excellent way of doing it, I wonder why Atari did not release something similar themselves.


  13. The 3DS looks great in 2D and feels great while playing it to me. However I haven't had enough time to really play with the 3D to get used to it so I'm hopeful that things will look better to me after some more time. However, I can't spend $250 on it with the titles that are out. Its just not cool.

     

    I have seen a few 3DS systems for sale in pawnshops, and a buddy at GameStop says they are coming back to them pretty regular now too. I'm still not ok with $200 for a used system either though. In a few months I might grab one, but then again I might have more money to blow in a few months too.

     

    Agree, It is just overpriced for a handheld, for that price a person could buy a Xbox 360 and a game.


  14. agree with Microsoft and Nintendo being one-legged midgets but do not agree with that term being used for Sega, the Dreamcast had a amazing set of games for the short period it was out, plus it was the DVD drive that helped Sony. For the first year the system was used for Playing DVD's like matrix almost more then playing games, seeing as its launch line up sucked.

     

    When the Dreamcast launched, Sega had already burned customers three times over on hardware. Yes, the DC lineup was spectacular, but it was a common sentiment that the DC was really just a warm-up for the PS2. True, the PS2 had a drought of games that lasted for over a year after launch, but even if it hadn't, Sega was losing money on the DC and Sony was on everyone's minds. In none of these cases am I talking about the quality of the system or games. I'm just saying by 1999, Sega no longer had the ingredients for success at their disposal. In other words, yes, they were a one-legged midget.
