On the other hand, Sony is going down in history as the company that got it right twice and has been declining ever since. The PS and PS2 did well because of weak competition... the PS3 and PSP aren't exactly rocking the world, and I'd suggest it's because Sony doesn't know how to compete with rivals on a level playing field.
I think it's a bit strong to say the PS1 did well because of weak competition. The PS1 perrformed very well, and the Saturn and N64 that it bested were pretty good competition. You're not saying they (the competition) suck, are you? The PS2 was less-groundbreaking, but rode in on waves of PS1 success and DVD popularity. I wouldn't say Sony never knew how to compete, but I'd say they appear to have lost their way in recent years.
At the time the PS1 launched, Nintendo didn't have a console ready, so they had to compete using only the SNES. Obviously, it was no contest. The N64 was a GREAT system, IMO, but it launched a full 2 years later. Combine that with the unpopular decision to use carts, and Nintendo was never able to really challenge the PS1. Sega was in a similar position, launching the Saturn with a crazy price while hampered by their reputation for poor support (32X/CD). It's also well-documented how the Saturn's 3D capabilities were rushed-- and it showed. Yes, the PS1 was a desirable system in its own right, but Sony launched at a time when neither Sega nor Nintendo had the resources to compete on the same terms.
Likewise, when the PS2 launched, the Saturn had died as a self-fulfilling prophecy, and that carried over to the Dreamcast. Sega was ready to bail on hardware by then anyway. Microsoft was entering the market as a total newbie, with deep pockets but zero existing customer loyalty. Nintendo was spending the entire generation proving they "learned their lesson" with the N64. Again, PS2 came along and knocked over the competition like the one-legged midgets they were.
However, neither of those generations compares evenly to today's market, where Nintendo has become a hot product for gamers and non-gamers alike, and Microsoft has established itself as the format of choice for HD/Online-heavy play. This generation is the first time Sony's been up against competitors who aren't making mistake after mistake. It's the first time Sony has come into a console war and NOT been the default choice. So yeah, that's the logic behind what I said earlier-- it's not that Sony "forgot" how to compete, it's that Sony is just now getting real competition.
agree with Microsoft and Nintendo being one-legged midgets but do not agree with that term being used for Sega, the Dreamcast had a amazing set of games for the short period it was out, plus it was the DVD drive that helped Sony. For the first year the system was used for Playing DVD's like matrix almost more then playing games, seeing as its launch line up sucked.

Also Dance central seems fun and really well done. Should be a new game from Capcom soon done by some the original people that did Panzer Dragoon and surprise you control a person riding a dragon trying to save his home land. Am actually looking forward to how the controls will work.

Would have to go with Tower Toppler.

as a wedding present. i stood there alone at 2am playing kinect adventures and having a blast. im not usually easily impressed but i was impressed at how well it actually worked in my tiny apartment.
anyway, i know that star wars and whatnot is coming eventually but im just curious whats out there now that would be worth playing. im really not picky, i'll pretty much play any genre so it doesnt need to be a "hardcore" title.
surprisingly Kinectamils has gotten some good scores, game Informer even as far as to say that it has a story line.

I did not even know there was a pinball game for the system. Might have to look into it, Dragons Crush is one of the reason's I bought a TurboGrafx.
Oh yeah. Pinball FX2 is great. Im sure people here will give you opinions about tables also. Which to buy and which to pass on. I say get all the Marvel tables first.
Thanks, is it a full release or was it released on the Xbox live store.

If they could do this in games and still get a good constant frame-rate it will just go to show that consoles generations only being 5 years long like some people want is a waste of console power and potential.

Currently finishing for the fifth time Mass Effect 2, also playing Halo Reach, Halo Wars, Banjo Kazooie, Sonic all stars racing.

This is good news:
http://kotaku.com/5804342/psp-games-coming-to-ps3-with-hd-visuals-extra-content
As soon as Sony figures out how to do networking and security maybe we will see these at some point. Hopefully though they are released as physical copies.
I would love to see the following converted to PS3:
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker
Valkyria Chronicles 2
God of War games
Jeanne D'arc
Phantasy Star Portable 2
good list of games.

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/19/playstation-store-expected-back-online-next-tuesday/
Sony has notified its developer and publisher partners that the PlayStation Store is scheduled to relaunch next Tuesday, May 24, according to a memo obtained by Gamasutra. In the message, PSN content manager Jack Osorno details plans to update the Store twice weekly -- on Tuesdays and Fridays -- for two weeks in order to speed up the release of content that's been delayed due to the outage.I wonder how long it'll take their servers to crash when everyone is trying to download their free games at the same time.
I give it 5 minutes before that happens knowing Sony.

Life support not detected. Must mean no game. Back to your lives citizens, shows over.
Funny though, to think I just recently bought a copy of Halo 2 to quench my perverted curiosity (no, not that kind of perverseness) and already there's talk of a Halo 4? Wow..........
Halo 2 is the best in my opinion, though the majority of people seem to agree, great shooting combined with a excellent story line(unlike COD) split campaign so you see it from both angels and excellent multiplayer. Halo 3's story line went back to being all about master chief(I personally liked seeing things from the elites point of view.) and a bit of a let down, though online became better, ODST did have a bit of a better story line then 3, then Reach which had a even better storyline but sadly none have seem to be Halo 2 level when it comes to that.

Agreed with others that the current classification system is silly.
Not only is it silly, the whole discussion is really pointless. Even within the "generations" I have seen listed so far there are such a difference in performance and graphics among the various systems, that classifying them together is basically a joke.
Just collect systems and games and don't worry about the "generation" argument.
exactly.

Not to sure, really have not played the second one that much.
-
defiantly a different system.

Hmmm, I might have to give that CCAM mod a try on my system.
Whenever I think of the Genesis's sound capabilities, I'm instantly reminded of Wiz n Liz. To me it has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard out of the system. In fact, I played it mostly for the music

That does sound good, then again the games either developed or published by that company/publisher usually seem to have good music.

Another E3 is almost here

I am personally hoping they show more of Mass Effect 3, Sonic generations as well as others. Of course the big one is going to be the new Nintendo console. I have heard they might be using a design that looks like a modern SNES, which I hope is true and can't wait to see seeing as I grew up with a SNES.
