That's a good idea, since it's basically the same software.. just says server on the boot screen.. people are giving away XP licenses too i bet now that monkeysoft has stopped supporting it..

Richard, I have never seen anyone give you flack for GPL. I think maybe you misconstrue the flack. We would all love to learn more and appreciate the work you have done with GPL and RXB. We just don't all agree with all of your strongly felt and verbosely articulated positions on some topics. And your need to post on unrelated topics about unrelated things.. GPL is something I intend on looking into in the future and I hope you and your documentation is available at that time to show how it's done. Greg

Agreed, if only we had that connector.. the pcb shoved in a female connector is the weaksauce of the iec cables

It's done manually by Don. I requested an update and he did it just now. Greg

The issue is entirely that the F18A initalizes VDP ram slower than a 9918.. The CF7+ & Nano were designed with the stock console/9918 in mind and access VDP ram almost instantly at power up. The delay was added to this to give the F18A time to finish it's boot. from the F18A website: KNOWN QUIRKS Due to the technology used to make the F18A, it is not possible for the F18A to power-on as quickly as the original 9918A/9928/9929 VDP. In some instances when a system is turned on and comes out of power-on reset before the F18A is ready, the system may hang or not start correctly. Usually a simple power-off / power-on will correct the problem, or if your system has a real reset button, that should also remedy the problem. The F18A needs about 100 milliseconds to come ready after power is applied, compared to the original VDP's power-on requirement of only a few microseconds. Most systems use an resistor and capacitor as an RC-time constant to control the power-on reset time, and in systems with known fast power-on reset times, a simple modification to make the resistor or capacitor lager will extend the reset time and make a more reliable power-on for the F18A enabled system. Information will be available soon for systems where the power-on reset time might need to be extended. Greg

HDX is software and hardware. Software on the PC side (required) Serial cable from the PC to the TI Software on the TI side (either DSR modification on TI rs232 card OR load cfhdxs1 software on stock TI or corcomp card (haven't tested myarc)) Hardware on the TI side. (TI RS232 card with DSR daughterboard modification or stock TI or Corcomp RS232 card with cfhdxs1 software tool) With the DSR mod, HDX1 device is available in any program that uses DSR calls. Without it you have to use the CFHDXS1 program to access HDX1

All paid orders shipped

The cfhdxP1 program works with older cf7's and a custom cable.. it's just a file manager that talks HDX.. I bought a cf7 and it was too "new" to be modified to work (you add a wire) and ended up just getting a nanopeb as a rs232 port is much more useful irl then a pio port. http://home.vodafonethuis.nl//fgkaal/Hardware/hw_ti99hdx.html and http://home.vodafonethuis.nl//fgkaal/Software/sw_ti99hdx.html goes into all the options Greg

I just bought one from these guys.. I get issues when placing it between the speech and firehose.. http://www.iec-usa.com/cgi-bin/iec/L1172 It has a bit of card in the end connector for connecting to the other side.. The one that came with it is actually two pieces.. They also sell a splitter for 2 boxes/devices http://www.iec-usa.com/cgi-bin/iec/L1173 I bought both.. So far haven't gotten either set up working right. Greg

CD's are thinner than floppy disks.. so ymmv

I was wondering if anyone has a inexpensive solution for long term storage of floppy disks. My 100 disk boxes I've had since the 80s are not as nice as they once were with all the moves and such hinges broke, latches not holding, lids fall off.. Would really like to find something that is seal-able (to keep out moisture and dust) and can hold 50-100 disks. (have about 600-900 disks!) or even better something stand alone like a rolling file cabinet that would store them safely.. Anyone? I stumble across actual disk boxes once in a blue moon at goodwill..but that's few and far between. I went to storables and they had a box that "almost" works, but it is too thin to hold disks in the envelopes.. great for storing my bulk blank disks but not for the archives.. The box really needs to be 6"h x 6"w x ?"l to work.. this is like 5.4"w.... Greg

I started seeing issues with my nanopeb after upgrading my f18a to the latest firmware.. there were strange errors using extended memory, loading assembly language issues.. Talked with the manufacturer and he thinks that the f18a delay in initializing was causing the nano to init vdp ram, before the f18a had finished it's start up.. To test he sent me a patched nano that has a longer delay in it's startup and it seems to work fine on my f18a machine. Just curious if these flakey issues with the devices are on f18a installed consoles, as there may be issues with the older one's as well. Greg

Do you have a F18a installed?
-
BTW there is just a software solution.. cfhdxs1 program on fred's site runs on TI and corcomp stock (and nanopeb too) and works with the hdx server as a file manager to copy files.. Greg

F18A programming, info, and resources
arcadeshopper replied to matthew180's topic in TI-99/4A Development
Someone asked on the Facebook 99/4a group "say for example someone fitted an F18A board to a '4' ... would it still block out "parsec" and other bitmap mode games ?" -
AWESOME makes my gram packer load look useless

in a nutshell, the HDX DSR lets you access HDX1 from any program that uses DSR calls and HDX1.PRINTER too. Also the TI DSR only goes 1200 baud.. HDX transfers at 38400, does on the fly error checking and handshaking, and works. You can do what you want without HDX, using term programs at 1200 baud Or MagicFM that's at 19200 baud max.. Greg
