Any idea when the preorders will be open to new customers? I want to know so I can have 150 set aside for it.

Great work guys, it gets better every time there is an update. One thing I would like to see, if possible, are just more sounds in the pinball section, particularly the flippers. I am fortunate to live near an arcade with a Baby Pac-Man, which I play every time I am there, and the game's pinball section is loud. Clunk clunk and all of that. So I dont know if more collision sounds would be possible. I never liked how the old time pinball sim-games had silent flippers, at the least.
I know it is still a WIP so maybe you intended to that, anyway keep up the good work and I will be buying a cart of this when it is finished.

If any game sold more than 500 units, it was probably Pacman Collection. I'll have 3 copies once I get the loot from Albert: The original thick dot TIA version, the PMP multicart, and a shiny new Pokey enabled Pacman cart.

Edit: I may sell my gently used loose TIA copy at a later date.
Oh yeah, thats one of the few customs I've actually seen in a used game store

Yeah - I don't think you will have to worry too much. This particular sub-class of Atari enthusiast (7800) is pretty small, and 500 sounds like plenty of units. I've been in and out of this scene for years, and I don't remember any 7800 specific homebrew game or product selling more than 200-250 units in total.
I hope so! Hence why I hope a new round of pre-orders are opened up at some point - though from looking at this thread, it looks like there are some that go back to 2011. I'll have the $$$$ in hand for it when that happens, sudden appearances in the Atari Age store, well, who knows if I have a spare 150 around then.
-
This may sound like a dumb question, but since the preorders have long since sailed, and the number being put in the Atari Age store afterwards is 500, what about after that? Seems like a ton of work, but I hope it is available in the future. If a new set of preorders were available I would buy one, but it worries me that they'll all sell out and I have to hunt for a second hand one. I intentionally bought a non Pokey Froggie holding out for the XM unit, would hate to be disappointed and never get one.

I would def. be interested in this, but there is no way I can do 200 (for the system) before early November. If it were for the end of the year, then I could pull it off.
Sorry if this has already been asked, but I see the delivery date for the system (in the 200 dollar) range is Jun of 2019. So I wonder - if I miss the kickstarter, which seems likely, can I reserve a system at a later date and still be able to get some of this June 2019 batch for 200? Or does the price increase if we don't make it into the kickstarter?

Hey all, bought a Super Video Arcade recently and I am getting the dreaded black screen of death when turned on. About half the time when I turn it on I can hear a short low noise, a quick 'bummm' sound, but nothing else. The reset button seems to work properly though.
Taking it apart I don't see anything obvious. Any one have an idea? Asking around and I was told it could be a bad ram chip. Sadly none are available on ebay though. At some point I am going to send this off to Crossbow for modding but I wanted to see if I could get it working before that to save him the trouble.

Very interesting! And there is no limitation on which inputs go to outputs? I guess that part may not matter because it would just be one input and 2 outputs.
I do wonder if there is still some signal lose going to those units.
But this may be the solution I was hoping for. And it will save me a ton of money if it is what I hope it is.

Hey all, I am not sure if what I want exists, but I am happy to be proven wrong. Here is my set up and what I am wanting to do. I have 5 systems that I want to be able to output to different TVs (one 4k and the other a CRT) at the same time. But in the case of the old JVC selectors, I noticed that almost none of them allow all inputs to go to all outputs. For instance, many of them will only allow input 1 to go to output 1, and then input 2 only to output 2, etc. On the JVC units, the only output that allows all is the 'monitor out'. But I dont know if an affordable unit with 2 monitor outs exists.
The only exception I can find is the 1000 dollar JX S1000. It has 2 'monitor out' outputs that I presume would allow all inputs to output through them.
I am using a non powered unit that seems to be the only one still made with dual outputs. It works, but is only 4 input and I have to make the 7800 go through the Betamax VCR to be able to use them all through it.
Could use some help.

I know exactly what you're getting at, I don't have this problem myself, but I have seen it in other 'collectors'. They stop being video game fans or even gamers at all, the 'hole' in the collection matters more than the quality of the actual game in question.
There is a major collector I know who has a ton of very rare sealed NES games (worth 5 figures in some cases). He doesn't collect anything but sealed, period. But when I went to his house to see his collection, I noticed he doesn't have a system set up. He stopped being an actual gamer a long time ago, and now there is nothing left but a compulsion to get sealed games he cannot play, and in many cases doesn't even care for the actual game itself.
Seeing this both in real life and among online classic gaming caused me to re-evaluate what my collecting was going to look like. I never was going for complete sets, but I had a looser definition of the reasons why I wanted to get certain games. After thinking it all over, I revised my definition of what was worthy of being in my collection, leading to a much smaller collection on just 4 systems, and games I actually LIKE. The difference is I feel like it is small enough to actually enjoy. Every one of these games gets played by me.

I've been looking around the internet and found a few different takes on this, so I am wondering if someone who has actually tried this can tell me what your results were.
My set up requires me to have my CRT about 25 feet (in the same room, cord wrapping around the room) from the switch box where the systems are. I'm wondering if there is going to be any substantial signal loss with such a set up? Some other forums I've looked at say that it may be noticeable until you start going past 100 feet.
-
For me, the problem I always had with the 7800 AC wasn't the rarity of the type of connection, but the flimsiness of the actual cord. I can't even recall how many of them I have broken over the last 20 years with minor nicks to the wire. I just wish there was a 'donor' out there with a thicker cord to insulate it from that kind of damage.

Thanks alot. He was exactly what I was looking for, and he has my 7800 right now.

Yes, I second Diner.
But mostly I want the Imagic exclusives such as Dracula. Also would love to see a better port of Locomotion.

Someone else hit on it already (not 2600, but work with me here). I would love to see 'enhanced' Intellivision ports on the 7800, especially games that are probably too complex for the 2600. I like the INTV but cannot stand the controller, and there are many gamers who keep a 7800 around for 2600/7800 games but don't have the other pre-NES systems. The games I miss the most from the INTV are the Imagic games that weren't done on the 2600, such as Dracula or Microsurgeon.
There are also several 5200 games I'd like the same thing done, especially Frogger II.

I have an early 7800 I want to get composite modded soon, but I have having a heck of a time finding someone who is available to do it (who has a good record). RetroFixes, who I did business with before, does the mod but doesn't offer it right now. A couple other sites that are out there are no longer active or haven't responded to contact email.
So can anyone else here recommend a modder, one with a good record and good turn around times/pricing?
I am looking to do this perhaps later this month or next month.
thanks

Awhile back I bought a CIB 7800 with no controllers, so I have been using a Genesis 3 button. I am aware that the 2nd button doesn't work without a converter. (Which I will get at some point)
However, on a couple of games I have noticed odd behavior. In the AtariAge Space Duel homebrew, the game starts right away and the shield is on constantly, until it runs out. In the 2600 games Astrosmash, the ship moves to the right when you start a game and keeps firing. Can't steer it at all.
Any idea what the issue might be?
-
Someone else mentioned this issue to me earlier and I just wanted to chime in that I had a decent experience with Yurkie starting back in in Feb of this year. First I shipped my Colecovision controllers for modding, and then a few months later the system for A/v modding.
While he was not especially fast and I had to touch base with him a couple of times, I think the controllers were done in about 3 weeks and the system in about the same time. I was pleased with the final product. I hope he can get back on the ball with his other customers because when he comes through he has a good service.

I guess I was more asking about the manual and catalog it came with. I've seen several versions of the purple/grid manual, and I wondered if the early version made mention of the expansion port. I've seen a 'revision A' manual from 1985 that does not, and a 'revision b' (from 1987) that also does not.

When I got rid of my Atari 5200, I thought there wasn't enough on the system to justify keeping it. So I'd like to see some of the really good games that were on the 5200 ported to 7800, so I won't be missing anything by just having a 7800 for 2600/7800 games.
For me this means:
Frogger II - the 5200 version of this looks the best, but it would need better control.
Tempest - I understand there is a chance that an updated version of this might be ported to 7800. Will be looking forward to that.
I intend to sell my Colecovision soon, so seeing some of the Coleco ports that only appeared on that system to 7800 would also be awesome -

Also, I see from earlier posts in this thread -
Haunted Castle - I would LOVE to own a port of this game. I am a Castlevania fanatic and it is a crying shame this never had a port to the Genesis, SNES, or some other system.

Did a search for this topic around the internet and couldn't find anything.
I recently bought a 'purple text' boxed (with matching serial) early Atari 7800, apparently an 85 release. Problem is that it has no 7800 papers, no controllers. The only thing it does have is the Pole Position II cart (yay) and an early 2600 catalog.
Can anyone else who has a CIB early 7800 tell me which versions of the various papers came with it? I am a bit of a completionist when it comes to this sort of thing and I want to get it right.
-
Well, you will have me down for a Venture cart when/if that happens!
Would be even more interested in Tempest down the line, I painfully decided to sell my 5200 a few years ago, and the Atari Age Tempest and maybe Frogger II are the only ones I can say I miss.
-
Just bought AT85046055, this one is CIB.
Came to this thread hoping that serial would be an expansion port serial range, and I am happy to see that it is. Never seen one in person.

Just had a really good Colecovision controller mod experience with Yurkie - not only did he had the ball tops to them, but he got my 2nd player controller to finally be able to move right without issue. I will be sending him my Colecovision console to him for modding next month

And I am so thankful for that...I can't tell you how many times I've been playing an arcade game IRL or in MAME and thought 'man I wish Bob would do a 7800 port of this'. (Gaplus/Galaga 3 in particular)
