So they're patenting the insanity system from Call of Cthulu?
-
Probably a refurb or something. I seem to remember ours coming in a box like that when I was a kid, but I could easily be wrong.

I don't get the issue with sniping. I see why sniping is a desireable tactic, but it still comes down to the highest bid, no matter when that bid was put in.

Anyone Still have a regular Gameboy Advance?
Hydian replied to classicgamingguy's topic in Modern Console Discussion
We (girlfriend and I) still have two original GBAs. We don't play with them too much, but got the Ereader bundles at TRU for $30 each a year or so ago. -
Not worth $5 a piece unless they are powerlords or the board games (complete.)

Can't answer the question, but I do know that a lot of older CD players (whether audio or CD-Rom) can't read CD-R's. Maybe the Duo can't read them very well? A change in media might help (or hurt.)

Can you post a pic of it next to a regular 7800 for scale? Sorry, I couldn't resist.

The model 1 uses a gear to push the drawer in and out. It is on the right side as you are looking at it from the front. What is probably happening is that the gear slipped at some point and isn't turned to where it should be. I had this happen to mine and it was a slight pain to take care of. Mine still isn't 100%, but it is good enough that I don't worry about it since I never play Sega CD (and recently sold off all of my games.)

Hillary is just mad that Bill wont come to bed at a reasonable time since he patched GTA. Rockstar rails against the mod community...interesting since the mod community tends to greatly extend the playablility of games. Granted, not in this particular case, but generally speaking. Of course the whole argument is silly. Smacking a ho is fine, but poorly simulated sex with her is not. Yeah, there's a real functional difference there. While I agree in principal that we need to protect children from their stupid parents, I'm more concerned about protecting myself from stupid politicians.

The Worst Features of Yard Sales and Flea Markets
Hydian replied to Great Hierophant's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Saw one of my favorite types of sellers yesterday, the clueless semi-pro wanna be. The guy has a table covered with random systems and games. I figure he's gotta be somewhat savy, so I bite and ask how much. $5 for the boxed SNES games...not a bad start $5 for the common NES games...getting a bit silly, but not too bad $10 for the "rare" NES games which are all more common than the common games $50 for the SNES $40 for the Dreamcasts, except the sports one which is $50 Then he shows me his box of "really rare and special stuff" which is just a boxed playstation and a smattering of carts that he was too lazy to put up on the table. I almost lost it. He was as funny as the guy who insisted that if he couldn't get $20 each for his N64 carts he would rather burn them because he paid $50 each for them for his kids (just ignore the $10 gamestop stickers on them please.) I probably should have really looked at his stuff. There probably was a bargain in there somewhere. I did almost bite on the Justifier guns (blue and pink) bundled with some genesis game (that wasn't even a gun game) for $10. I might go see if he's still there today. I probably should be annoyed that this guy is one of the reasons I can't find anything at thrifts anymore, but he's too funny to be annoyed at him. Oh, and GH...you're too funny man. If you're actually serious, don't tell me because I'll probably spew diet coke out my nose. -
Good for people who pay and have reliable broadband internet.

Ah, darnit! I loved that game when I had it years ago.

Favorite Mortal Kombat Game?

I have to go with MKII. The fact that they were doing updates and incorporating rumors and player requests made it more fun IMHO. -
First Conviction for Console Modding
Hydian replied to DominiRican05's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The guy was in the UK and the laws there are probably different, but in the US reverse engineering is completely legal and even the DMCA which stomps all over fair use rights specifically allows reverse engineering and not just for education. The bnet battle is a perfect example. Blizzard didn't invoke the DMCA for reverse engineering, but for circumventing copy protection. Blizzard's claims about the reverse engineering is that it is prohibited by the EULA. It's become a world where copyright laws are used to stifle innovation and creation. Pretty ironic since they were created to promote what they now prevent. -
Circuit City Summer Clearance 7/3/2005
Hydian replied to holygrailvideogames.com's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Our local CC just had a few titles for $7.99 that were in their weekly ad. I didn't bother trying to price check stuff to see if it was secretly marked down or not. -
Battlefield 2: The Video Card Controversy
Hydian replied to Dones's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Eh...people will be "upgrading" to play the new console games coming out this christmas just as they upgraded from their N64's to play the current crop of games. A decent PC can be put together for just a little bit more than the new consoles are rumored to be costing. That PC will last you 3-5 years which is as long as or slightly longer than a new console. Really not much of a difference. -
Battlefield 2: The Video Card Controversy

DX9 cards can be had for next to nothing these days, so there isn't a real reason to bother supporting DX8 cards. -
The guys at Penny Arcade bought it.

The Worst Features of Yard Sales and Flea Markets
Hydian replied to Great Hierophant's topic in Classic Console Discussion
We hit the dirt malls (flea markets with a permanent building, usually both in and outdoors) pretty regularly. Generally, only the folks who are one timing it have anything worth while and you have to get there pretty early. Our dirt malls have video game vendors and they comb the place as soon as they get set up. Yard sales we generally skip. Too much effort to find them for such a small chance of a payoff. -
We had it when I was a kid and it was a lot of fun. It's one of the keepers in my collection now. The graphics get a bad rap, but there was a method behind the madness. Play any pac type game on the 2600 and then play KC Munchkin and you'll immediately see the difference. The O2 suffered more from a lack of 3rd party support than any technical failings IMHO.

Which is becoming all too common these days. Which reminds me...I need to find a non serial solution for router programming. Wonder if there is a USB solution?

I don't think DVD playback or the lack of it really affected sales that much. The Xbox outsold the Gamecube in the US mostly because it targeted the hardcore gamer crowd, specifically the hardcore PC gamer crowd. As far as success goes, I saw an article that showed Nintendo makes more money than Sony and Microsoft's console divisions by a wide margin. A lot of that is due to not adding in features that are redundant with your already existing living room equipment (like that $60 at the time DVD player.) I like Nintendo being in the business. Now that Sega is out of it, we need someone to both innovate and to push the competition so that the Xbox IX is more than a simple hardware upgrade.

Been seeing them advertise new releases will be on UMD, so I expect the major DVD carriers will get them. Hentai...if you think that is the most disgusting thing around, you must not surf the web or usenet too much. Of course, it is always your choice to not watch it. Adult UMDs...you'll be most likely to find them in comic shops or the comic/games shops. Don't think anyone else would bother to retail them. They definately end up at the computers shows in a cardboard box marked "Sony PSP porn discs, $10" next to the adult DVD box similarly marked.
-
They make referral money for everything you sign up for. They make money because the cost to send you an ipod or Xbox is less than what they make, plus there are people who invariably don't do enough trials and they are pure profit. I think it was Maximum PC that did a blurb about it.

I'm pretty sure that the twist is for 3.5" drives. Don't quote me on that though as it's been a while since I've even looked at a 5 1/4" floppy drive. I should have a cable someplace in my bins o' crap. I can try to dig one out this weekend.
