  1. Gah! that should be skipping. Darned fat fingers!
  2. I see (left to right and skilling the M-network game)... Atlantis Defender Space Invaders ET Target Fun Berserk I could be wrong though.
  3. Carolyn is steep, but pretty consistant so you can pick up good deals from her if you pay attention. She tends to price flat per system rather than by rarity. As far as Sega CD games. They're ok I suppose. My collection of Sega CD stuff is in line to go out the door though. I just don't have room for it all and I never play with it.
  4. Internet connections (and especially broadband) are not yet common enough for these systems to be effective. It works for Half Life and the Never Winter Nights expansions because those games have heavy online components. NWN does it by requiring you to log into their site to check the expansions to be sure they are legit. If you are stuck someplace without a connection (airport, park, etc) then you are out of luck. The developing portion of the industry might think it wants to move in this direction, but the retail and distribution aspects of the industry do not. It makes a lot of sense to just get away from the boxes all together (assuming that broadband becomes as common as TV.) They can put their game up on P2P networks like bittorrent and simply require you to purchase a key. It wont happen anytime soon though. In effect, this setup is much like the Phantom and we all saw the warm welcome the Phantom got from gamers.
  5. Sony puts out lots of unique consoles, just not in the US (Microsoft has only done 1 variant here, right?)
  6. The exemption has nothing to do with trading ROMs. That is still illegal under normal copyright laws. The exemption was specifically crafted for the archiving of games where the required hardware is no longer available in the mainstream (that is what is considered to be commercial...if it is no longer available from the retail channel or the manufacturer it is no longer commercially available...I can buy stuff from a crack addict in the projects, but that does not make it commercially available.) The exemption simply means that you cannot be touched under the DMCA anti-circumvention clause if you make backups of media. Otherwise, that is exactly what Nintendo (or whomever) would do since the DMCA is much more business friendly than even copyright laws are with higher penalties and more leeway in terms of how brutal the enforcement is.
  7. I don't think thrift stores and ebay count as "commercially available" as they are by definition a second hand market. But lets be clear. This exemption only allows you to disreguard the portion of the DMCA that prevents you from circumventing the protection. It does not allow you to do anything else that is not covered under the fair use laws (or other portions of the DMCA.)
  8. The sheer logistics of shutting down these small operators is mind numbing (and expensive.) If the big N was going to do something, they'd probably try to stop it at the source (fat chance) or at the border. It's pretty much the same reason that music piracy is largely unchecked (I'm talking actual piracy...selling knock off CDs.) It is just too expensive and difficult to track these small operators down.
  9. Yeah, a 50 pin would be narrow (68 pin is wide and double the throughput.) If they are 18GB 10k RPM drives, then they are probably Ultra 160 or Ultra 320 drives. The thing to watch for is whether they are LVD and/or SCA drives. LVD controllers are expensive. The drives should be compatable with a non LVD controller too, but you need to make sure. All of that said, I should have a PCI Ultra Wide SCSI controller laying around. Let me dig through my bin of PCI cards and see.
  10. I'm in Hudson and I'm heading home tomorrow evening. I'll drag out my TG-16 stuff to be sure I still have that spare and to be sure that it works then let you know.
  11. Doh! I was going to offer to trade a TG-16 PS for that TurboExpress PS (once I get home from wisconsin and can verify I still have it.)
  12. I have the Xbox and Gamecube. Both because I got good deals on them and because of some of the exclusive titles for each. I'd probably pick up a PS2 if I saw a good enough deal, but have no driving desire to do so (well, maybe for Kingdom Hearts or something.) I do, however, already have some PS2 stuff like the broadband adapter and a game or two. Sometimes you just shouldn't pass up a good deal, you know?

  14. The strip does flounder a lot, but he has his moments. This one is particularly funny to me because I've heard similar statements from people.
  15. I read this strip every day and it covers all aspects of gaming, but I thought this one was particularly appropriate for this board: http://www.pvponline.com/
  16. Hope this helps: http://www.mobygames.com/game/trivia/p,2/gameId,1067/
  17. A thought about the lack of a catridge port and the hopes that they add one... Right now there is an exemption under the DMCA that allows the copying of media made for systems that are no longer commercially available. http://www.copyright.gov/1201/docs/librari...atement_01.html If they add a catridge port onto this thing, atari 2600 and 7800 ROMs become protected under the DMCA again. Where this has the largest obvious impact is hacks, repros, and emulators. Note that this does not free the ROMs from copyright laws, but rather makes the act of circumventing the protections (ie cart) legal.
  18. The later release was Daytona USA: Champion Circuit Edition and there was also a netlink version as well. They are distinguishable from the original release.
  19. Yeah...the only bad thing is that they never supported additional armies or anything so the multiplayer was generally bland.
  20. The 40k games all had multi player other than space hulk (which is a seperate game in it's own right and not really 40k anyway.) It was all one off scenarios, but there was multiplay. I just hope that they don't immediately abandon this one like the others and put out some new armies and stuff. They should since thise is the first one with a multi player focus rather than being focused on single player. Oh...and if you like Blood Bowl, here's a really good java based version. they have leagues and everything... http://fumbbl.com/
  21. I disagree....all of the games workshop computer games so far have been pretty long for single player.
  22. Oooo...it's out? I played the beta for a few weeks and it is really good (and I don't generally care for RTS games.)
  23. The local TRU has them marked 50% off, both the lite and full versions.
  24. Any laptop hard drive should fit into the Armada 700. You just need to take the carriage assembly off of the existing drive and put it on the new one.
