  1. I can't tell in the picture, is the ROMOX on the cartridge housing? If so, then why I asked for pictures was that I read that Romox had programmable cartridges in which you take the "blank" cart to a reseller and have it programmed. I have one sealed, and one that a customer used. They made these carts for one-off's and short runs for software vendors, or big clients, that needed 50 or less. I read that Romox had a list of titles it offered to consumers and Pit stop was one of them. Why someone just wouldn't go buy the pit stop cart doesn't make sense to me. But I guess the consumer could keep going back to have titles programmed on the cart. The Romox carts I have are square with their name on the cart. I have seen the "rounded" end cart housings.

I don't think these carts were made to open and reprogram without their programmer (which I have never seen, only pictures of). Why someone would also "label" the carts Pit stop if they were programable I'm not sure. It almost looks like Epyx had several cart mfg's for this cartridge????

    great Romox link:

Yep, Romox is on the bottom two cases, the black one has the eproms soldered, but I haven't opened up the white one yet. The one on the top right has the eproms socketed. Still looking for the blue cased one...

Interesting read on that link :)

I see that a seller has an unopened Romox Programmable cart on ebay, but they want way too much for it...

Interesting read guys. Are the romox version of Pitstop worth more then the standard epyx cart? if so what is the price diff?

I believe I have the blue romox version of the cartridge. thanks for the romox link!

  2. I've picked up several on ebay in the last year...some even with mods ;-) try ebay unless you are looking for one for $12.50 ...I've picked 2 of them up on ebay about 6 months ago for $60 with one power supply

  3. I believe it is HES for sure. Especially since HES carts came in that plastic shell.

I have the same cart and it is HES although my Pastfinder for HES the back does not say "Activision" it's just smooth with no writing.

I also have activision pastfinder and at bottom of label says

    "Audiovisual Concept, Label and Program

    c 1984 Activision, INC CC-104-04"

I'm trying to upload pictures but it's not working for some reason????

  4. Lettering complete. Done using a laser printer, parchment paper and a toaster-oven. I've also attached the original concept sketch I did a few months ago (for the rev 2 board). Pretty close.

    cheers,

amazing work! ...any chance you will make for sale?

  5. I've got 53 carts at the moment. About 30 of them didn't work when I first got them, the only thing that was required to bring them back to life was wiping the contacts for about 20 seconds with a paper towel that was lightly oiled (Breakfree CLP). The only cart that didn't respond to this treatment was a PILOT cartridge that, once opened, turned out to be missing its PROMs. Sandpaper is never necessary for cleaning contacts and is analogous to using sandpaper to take birdshit off the hood of your car. Oh, it will remove it all right....

Sounds like the cart is just fried, unfortunately.

    cheers,

    c

    blah blah blah :)

yes, it's dumb to use sandpaper unless everything else fails...what do you have to loose?

I normally use a q-tip or basic monitor wipe does the trick. q-tip with 70% isopropyl normally works fine...3 times I've had to use thin sandpaper followed by q-tip with 70% isopropyl to clean afterwards...cartridge ran like a charm and oh yeah it was a BBSB I also bought on ebay...good luck boxpressed!
