  1. VCS, it playable, but doesn't hold a candle to Armada.

Atari Computer systems, haven't used, so cant compare.

Are you sure your playing it on "GAME" format, and not Practice. The practice format leaves the game in an easy as heck format if you do it on startup, and of 1 level prior to your death if you do it after a game.

As for controls, unless your one who hates the INTV controllers in general, the controls are about as smooth as it can get.

  2. Space Armada, seriously???? How could you consider this one of the worst of the INTV... With changing game conditions every 2 waves, from exploding bombs, to disappearing enemies, to guided missles, this is actually one of the better Invaders "ports" I've seen :)

  3. Hmm. There are some Intellivision games that I just can't get into, but not many I think are truly bad. At the risk of being cliché, Donkey Kong might be the worst: it's ugly, it's sloppy, and it's just not much fun.

Donkey Kong Jr. is on thin ice with me also. I WANT to really like this game, but the gameplay just isn't quite there. The controls are almost as clunky as in Donkey Kong, too, but at least the game looks better, if only marginally.

Triple Action's "race car" game is pretty pointless, as I suspect Truckin' might be (I haven't played Truckin' enough to be able to comment, but a long-distance semi-trucking sim doesn't strike me as a great idea...what I've played of it wasn't very compelling, though).

I like Zaxxon, however, as well as usual whipping boys Turbo and Pole Position. Actually, Intellivision Zaxxon might be the version of Zaxxon I play the most. I'm not the biggest Zaxxon fan in general anyway, so the fact that it's not isometric doesn't offend me. :)

I wouldn't necessarily call Vectron a bad game, but it is one of those that I can't really get into.

    Let's see...

DK - suprisingly while yes, it's bad from a game perspective, me and my dad back in the day have a warm spot for this one, as we had to pull out the INTV1 in order to play this (our normal machine was a 2), so we'd play for an hour or so in 2 player combat on DK, so I can't give it the hammer.

DK Jr. on the other hand, I never played as a kid and can see it for what it is, terrible... you fall off chains for no reason in the trampoline level, Junior doesn't respond to presses to let go of a vine, and the birds only fly once in the lockup level, come on...

TA's RC game, again, a family fav racing to the 100 mile trek, we'd count it as driving from Sioux City to Omaha, NE (which was about 100 miles, actually), and of course the busy traffic (mode 2) is the way to go. We'd have a lot of close (1sec) differences on the end of the 100 mile race. TRUCKIN, on the other hand, I'll agree does suck.

Zaxxon, perfectly fine in my book. Never really cared for the arcade machine, but for what it is, this isn't anywhere near as bad as some would have you believe... now the VCS version, that is a turd...

Pole Position, I can't really say I hate it, other then it seems rushed as the timer doesn't count down in a uniform rate. (If your crashed/not doing anything the timer goes a lot faster than if your at top speed), as it seems the timer was built into game cycles, and not an actual timer. Other than that, while pushing the INTV's limits, I do not think of it as a "reason to say why racing games shouldn't been done on the INTV".

I've know that I've been personally responsible for converting some AA folks to the wondrous world of Vectron, so I wont rehash here :)

  4. Vectron.....worst...game....ever.

No, just STOP playing it on EMULATION and put it on actual hardware where the 16-direction disc does get a good workout :)

I'd be willing to toss DK Jr. in the worst pile, as evidenced by the lack of competition this time around on the HSC.

  5. Let's see what this ratings guru has to say to see if he's worth anything...

    Tarmin C+ (dingbat)

Armor Battle D (ok, he got 1)

    Auto Racing D- (definitely wrong)

    Astrosmash C (buzz him again)

Buzz Bombers F (please, there is way worse games, so wrong again)

Donkey Kong D- (Was he drunk when he called DK Jr. an A)

Ice Trek D (God this guy is pissing me off)

Microsurgeon D (Iconic game and this moron rates it a D?)

Night Stalker D- (CASE IN POINT, VCS you taking this guy's word?)

Space Armada D- (AGAIN, I doubt this donk has played a INTV game)

Star Wars (Empire) D+ (looks to find a garbage can to vomit)

Tron (Maze/Solar) F (Again, shoot this guy now)

Vectron D (SOLD, this guy is a moron)

AND from his OWN writeup on DK Jr.

...In order to rescue his father from Mario, Junior must traverse a "vines" screen and a "locks" screen.

This guarantees he NEVER played this game, as they are more than just vines/locks, and describing it this way proves to me this boy doesn't know jack crap.

  6. Yes, this weekend get your fill of the 30-th Anniversary yellow disc on Google's main page, as they stretched out the Pac-Man maze to play Pac-Man with the Google Logo. One interesting INTV note is look how they handle the score/lives/fruit, by putting them up/down as the INTV did :)

Yes, one other note, Ms. Pac-Man can play this game too, just click "Insert Coin" twice on startup to get Ms. Pac-Man to join the game (both Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man play simultaneously) in the game, but only share one live bank, and if the ghosts catch EITHER pac-man, it's death for both. :)

And yes, the Intermissions are here (at least thru the 2nd, as thats as far as I got with 49,940)

  7. To try to help others thru this torture, the game is setup thusly...

    Lvl 1 - Jungle1

    Lvl 2 - Chain/Key1

    Lvl 3 - Jungle2 (2nd pattern)

    Lvl 4 - Trampoline1

Lvl 5 - Jungle3 (SPEED UP occurs here)

    Lvl 6 - Chain/Key2

    Lvl 7 - Jungle4 (Extra red guy/faster yet)

Haven't got past 7 to see if they put the 4th screen or left it at 3.

  8. All I can say, those who say Coleco didn't make inferior DK ports to other systems to prop up their sales, DK JR is EXHIBIT A B and C!

Terrible Controls, the music is even OUT of sync, and fall all the way, but if you hit the trampoline, your fine? (Note this happens cause u dare to move while grabbing 2 chains above the tramp, mind you!
