  1. BRE Software is still around but they switched to being a video game store front years ago. They also sold all of their Atari ST stuff years ago. Actually, they are getting out of retail. Legends Comics & Games is taking over their retail biz. They have the BRE Software storefront sign up for sale on their Facebook page. http://www.bresoftware.com/ https://www.facebook.com/pg/BRESoftware/
  2. What sorcery is this you speak of? There was a way to transfer data from A8 to ST - and vice versa - via the joystick ports? If that's the case, I'm surprised nobody did that at the Atari user's group I belonged to back in the day...which was both A8 and ST.
  3. How well it would've sold would've depended upon the software made available to use it. Both AtariLab modules were made for the 7800 for use with the keyboard. There was a word processor and BASIC. The keyboard plugged into Joystick Port #2 and had its own micro-controller inside the keyboard so it could connect and use Atari 8-bit peripherals that used the SIO port [it had its own chip, not a PIA to control all of that]. It should be noted that at the January 1985 CES, Nintendo had a keyboard for their pre-NES/North American Famicom adapted console.
  4. There was an officially licensed version for the Gameboy Color... I think Mike Mikka did it... 240 levels...
  5. Lay off on the Nippon full-on robot chubby you've got going on there. Japan does not equal all of Asia. And I also mentioned Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union because that's where the OG SD Cart Homeslice resides from. And for the record, the Atari 2600 had been unofficially imported into Japan years before the official release of the Atari 2800 there.
  6. Because Facebook Groups on a mobile phone are easier to navigate than the AtariAge website is on a mobile phone even with a proper Forum Reader app.
  7. And his nemesis, the superior Iron Duke, was somewhere between 5'9" and over 6' tall. But that's not the shortcomings I was referring to. You can learn more about that by reading up on Giuseppina Grassini, lover to both... Imperial!
  8. By all means, repurpose every damn SF354 drive you find into an XF351, please! That's the way it should've been from the start, err, STart.
  9. If word was to get out about them, they could sell. Hell, a lot of the 7800 and AtariAge Facebook group members don't even come here to AtariAge proper. There's like 1,200 members in the 7800 group alone there... Granted, I'm not familiar with how many 7800 homebrews use it...or how many 2600 homebrews do. I'm assuming it isn't experiencing the same issue the AtariVox+ is with certain titles...
  10. It's been a long time... doesn't Spider Fighter only move left-right? Or am I thinking of Mega Mania, or both? Either way, I can see why you'd want to mod it for multiple movement directions. I mean, 5200 Galaxian and Space Invaders due play well on the CX53 Trak-Ball, but even I'd prefer to use a Paddle on 'em. As for Dave, let me spell his last name correctly: Staugas. I had no idea he worked on Hover Strike for the Jag... I'm seeing him listed as having done 7800 Rampage for Activision. And Krull and Millipede on the 2600. And Atari Corp's version of DRI's GEM GUI [and GEMDOS underneath it] for the ST and NEOchrome for it too, of course... one of the few Atari Inc employees who carried over to Atari Corp. He doesn't seem to have much of an online presence...
  11. It's also due to Dan Kramer having worked with Mike Albaugh when Dan was designing Atari Consumer's Trak-Balls. Mr. Albaugh worked on the arcade originals. It is disappointing to hear people parted out a bunch of CX53s in the early 90s. Haven't they done that enough with 7800 BallBlazer carts to satisfy the hunger of their Quad POKEY Eliminator Boards???
  12. I'd rather play both Galaxian and Pole Position - throw in Space Invaders too - with a 5200 Paddle but I don't have one built... I'll do one if a certain someone does indeed create thin PCBs to replace the Flex Circuit in the CX52...
  13. Siskiyou County pretty much is due to the lack of enforcement for the most part. That's the county on the California side of the border. There's a lot of anti-Californianess in those parts because a lot of the locals have wanted to create their own State of Jefferson since even before WWII. You just have to slow down before zipping by the CHP station before the border. I got nailed there. The CHiPper told me "Son, the speed limit has never been 94 mph". After he wrote the ticket, I told him it was a good thing he didn't catch me at 130 mph. But in my defense, I had been driving in the low 90s but a semi truck got on my tail at that speed and I had to kick it up to put distance between myself and that crazy trucker. I swear, I felt like Dennis Weaver in Duel there for a few minutes. But back to our regularly scheduled Jag SD Cart'in.
  14. Cool. We could conceivably end up with *3* different versions of Millipede for the 2600 and hopefully all of them eventually enhanced for Trak-Ball support...
  15. Wait a sec here... Atari had a presence in Hong Kong and the Philippines. Hell, they even had a minute presence in Japan but got c**k-blocked by the myriad distribution system of Japan that kept foreign goods safely away from Japanese consumers. South Korea was also heavily protectionist then [err, still heavily protectionist]. But Atari 8-bit computers and consoles made their way to Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union back in the early 1990s, and the ST and above shortly thereafter. Even during the Soviet Era, various Soviet government entities had Atari computers at their disposal in addition to their home-grown wares. The Soviet Embassy in the States even had Atari computers according to Epyx who sent them copies of Summer Games to play back in 1984 during the Soviet boycott of the Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles that year. Krikzz just supports what he personally likes which we can't fault... And separately, as for many others who have since chimed in, I say drop 2600 compatibility from any 7800 SD Solution. It's an unnecessary complication. Even if the Harmony is no longer produced, there is still the Uno Cart available for 2600 games.
  16. Don't you have a lot of SaveKeys still available for sale?
  17. Hey now, Atari Inc's quality control was far different than the later Atari Corp's quality control. This SCART board could've been developed by Atari Inc. And I know one of the last things Dan Kramer worked on before he left the Tramielian Occupation was finishing up the SECAM versions of the Atari XL computers. And he left before 1985... If this is a decent board, I'm surprised nobody has cloned it. I'd take SCART over Composite or SVideo. Then again, a lot of 7800 mod boards come from the States and SCART wasn't popular here plus not too many enthusiasts here own French 7800s...

I was just making it clear based upon the information I had read from earlier this week - outside of AtariAge - concerning that retro gaming company and the assumption many of us had concerning their current lack of support for Atari platforms. That's all. Joke on!

Let's just say that Tramiel's Atari Corp never expanded upon designing carts with audio capabilities beyond POKEY support. I suspect a lot of that had to do with the sour experience in trying to get the AMY working first with the ST - before it was released - and then the [unreleased] 65XEM. They licensed the tech out to Sight+Sound and apparently that company tried to stiff them on the chip once S+S got it working and [claimed to] improve upon it. And the PORKEY and Dual and Quad POKEYs appeared to remain the IP of the then separate Atari Games Corp. Tramiel's Atari Corp probably should've pivoted and spent a few drachmas on designing a 7800 cart PCB that used the [often maligned] YM2149. They could've then probably achieved better volume pricing - since they were already purchasing them for every ST they built - and they could've recycled audio from ST games, not to mention audio from Colecovision, Vectrex, and Speccy games. But that's a thought exercise probably meant for a different speculation thread...

True. At this point, HSC is more of a "hey, look at this cool feature Atari Inc/GCC developed for the 7800 and never brought to market" and as a form of bragging rights in the retro scene. It's definitely unique amongst the 8-bit platforms, not counting battery back-ups in the various NES and Sega Master System carts. I'm surprised memory space was a concern because it appears your game here is the largest ROM so far released for the 7800. Which reminds me...if this game is as large as I suspect it is, does a player have to play through the entire thing - a la Midnight Mutants - or is there a password generator scheme for saving current progress or is there an unmentioned hardware feature? Apologies if that's covered in the write-up and I missed it somehow...

Just for the record, Collectorvision doesn't profess to have an anti-Atari bias. They said on Facebook they're looking for "interested" coders on the various Atari platforms. They'd like for any interested coders to email them. I have the impression they'd like Sydney Hunter on all platforms, so that would also mean all Atari platforms... 2600, 5200/A8, 7800, ST(e)/Falcon, Lynx, and Jaguar... Didn't mean to give the impression of a thread-hijack; I just wanted to address that statement before others took it further...
  22. We use miles....not that inferior French measuring system created to make Napoleon feel good about his shortcomings... Miles were good enough for the Roman and British Empires so it's still good enough for us here in 'Merica. So it's 88 mph! And if one wishes to mock Americans about what we consider - or can handle - as fast, I'd like to point out that Volkswagen USA has to fight with Volkswagen proper back in Germania over the size of cup holders because apparently German drivers can't drink from large cups while driving on the Autobahn. Funny, I've driven my 2004 New Beetle Turbo at 130 mph while drinking from a very large American soda cup on my way to Oregon from NorCal...
  23. There's talk of it elsewhere here on AA and over at Facebook. Dave apparently made it for his coworkers at Atari Inc/Corp.
  24. It plays well with a digital stick. My NeoGeo stick from Grips03 does the trick on that title. That is, when I don't play with the Trak-Ball...
  25. I'd imagine most people would want a RAM upgrade and an extended BIOS [behold, the 5200XM!] when it comes to 5200 mods before remote controls... but hey, by all means, trick out the 5200 with Bluetooth remote control and Alexa integration.
