Hey all! I just stumbled upon this site and this topic while googling myself! I'm Jack Reedy of REEDY SOFTWARE (Addictus, Dragon and other ADAM titles) and just had to chime in! I've not kept track of the ADAM scene for many years but it's great to see some love for my old games out there! Did I read somewhere of ADAM CON this summer in Grand Rapids? That's my town! Maybe I'll have to check it out. -Jack Reedy HEY Jack! Great to see you on board here at AtariAge. I was hoping that by posting some of these games and mentioned the programmers that we'd eventually get lucky and they'd see there name here and decide to join in. You are actually the second such programmer that has responsed, the first being the programmer of Diablo, although he originally programmed it for the TI99 computer and then it was converted to the ADAM by another. The next ADAMcon is scheduled for July 14-17 in Grand Rapids and is being organized by Bob. S (he goes by the name "adamcomputer" on here) and his family. I'll be shooting over there on Saturday and hopefully a good number of others who can't attend for all four days. You can get all the latest info. at Bob's site: http://ann.hollowdreams.com/ There's been a lot going on in the ColecoVision scene since 1996 and you should checkout the following sites for some trmendous ColecoVision homebrew cart releases as well as the AtariAge Store that sells some of these titles (including a tremendous version of Spectar... yep, one of the Coleco vaporware titles): http://www.atarimax.com http://www.teampixelboy.com http://www.colecovision.dk/collectorvision.htm http://www.opcodegames.com/games.php http://www.ccjvq.com/newcoleco/ and there are many more titles in the works, including "Side Trak"! BTW, there is also a weekly chat held every Wednesday at 9:00pm EST. All the info is located on Bob's site. Great to hear from you and hope to finally meet at ADAMcon. Jim Notini

Did the Colecovision ever come with white controllers?
NIAD replied to Bartsfam's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
Some of the auctions could be from people replacing defective black controllers with what they are able to find... the beige controllers. Actually, by 1985, the black hand controllers were in shorter supply than the beige hand controllers. I saw a lot of advertisements from the likes of American Design Components for the blacks that included the Coleco box, but what Coleco was selling off in huge lots to mail order vendors (you had to buy in large quantities) were the beige ones. When I shut down NIAD in 1994, we must have still had 3 large boxes full of the beige controllers (probably about 150) and I wish I had stored them away to auction off on eBay now. Getting back to American Design Components, I'm almost 100% positive that this system would have come from them, what with the notice about the beige controllers and the styrofoam packing included but no outer box. What DID happen to those controllers then? Took them all back to the person that started/owned NIAD along with what little we had left by this time and from there he would have sold them off or gave then away to someone in the ADAM Community. Hopefully, he didn't end up just dumping them in the garbage. -

ColecoVision & ADAM Cartridge Collector's List v1.0
NIAD replied to NIAD's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
Let me use a phrase that Coleco made oh so famous... "The Fun of Discovery". Just kidding! It's really not a bad idea at all and when I wrap up another "personal" project I'm working on, I will see what I can do. -
I've got 5 different versions in image format of Super DK Jr. - 5 Screen. There's a DDP and Disk Rev. 13 that only requires the Left and Right Fire Buttons to be pressed to activate the 5th screen, a DDP and Disk Rev. 14 that does not require a code be entered and the final version just states HACKED and I can't remember for the life of me what the difference is. Always loved that "Master sequence is activated" message... I will continue on with more 3rd party ADAM wares as there are still a number of good titles that I haven't covered... including Temple of the Snow Dragon. Thanks for the link you provided, I was hoping to one day come across the Mage Quest manual!! +1

Donkey Kong Junior SuperGame 5 Screen Version No Code Required I know I originally stated that I would only post 3rd Party/Homebrew titles in this series, but after talking to a number of people over the last couple months, I have come to the realization that a lot of people don't have the best versions of unreleased Coleco software. When Coleco made available their unreleased software titles to ADAM Users Groups, they did so with one stipulation, that any copyright information within the program would be removed. What I plan to do is post all the un-edited titles (SubRoc SuperGame, Troll's Tale, etc.) so that everyone will have the BEST available versions. The first of these titles, Donkey Kong Junior - 5 Screen Version, was never "hacked" to remove any copyright information, rather it was hacked to remove the requirement to enter a specific code using the hand controller in order to have access to the 5th screen. This version I have posted will automatically play the 5th screen when you get far enough into the game, think the 9th screen... pleas forgive my uncertainty as I don't have time to play it right now. Aside from having the 5th screen (which was originally intended for the official release of the DK Jr. SuperGame, but Nintendo would not allow it), everything else is identical to the official release... intro screen, intermission screens, hall of fame, etc. Enjoy. All three of those games were WIP (works in progress) that were never completed 100% unfortunately... really would love to see Wild Western revisted as it's one of the infamous vaporware Coleco titles. If Wild Western ever is revisited by Opcode, I would love to see it use a dual hand controller option... one controller for movement of the horse back character and the other controller used for the direction of the character's gun/shooting. While the Atari 5200 had a controller joiner/tray for games that required both controllers like Space Dungeon, we already have a dual controller holder in the Roller Controller... and this would give me a great excuse to leave it setup all the time!! The Super Action Controller would be another option if used like the controls are setup in Front Line.

Is the Colecovision more powerful than the Atari 5200?
NIAD replied to rhindlethereddragon's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
I second Yurkie here, but I completely understand the posting of topics that have already been beaten to death... even though I'd rather see people use the search functions of the forums first. I actually have been browsing/reading through the old "Classic Gaming General Forum" for all the stuff that I missed or didn't pay attention to when I was just a lurker and it's really amazing how many topics are repeated over and over. It's also amazing how much great information is out there to be had for the small price of spending about 15 minutes a day readng some of these old threads... also a lot of nostalgia. What I am beginning to notice is a cyclical pattern where people get interested in a certain system, go through all the growing pains of learning and asking questions and then eventually get their fill and move on to other interests/systems. Then a new group moves in a starts the whole process over again. There are a handful of people that stick with a particular system through hell or high water (and they're pretty obvious to recognize), but for the most part people come and go rather quickly... not that there is anything bad or wrong with that especially since there are so many great systems from the past to play around with. I was going to start a new thread concerning rating systems, but I think I will pass now! -
Check out this modification of a Coleco Exp. Mod. #1 that is up for sale in the MarketPlace! Nice job DJPUBBA. http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/180481-introducing-the-coleco-sagittarius/page__p__2258796__fromsearch__1#entry2258796

Found an unopened ColecoVision on craigslist for $40.
NIAD replied to SwampFox56's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
CV always smelled distinct to me, like the plastics and styrofoam combined for a particular scent. I can't recall a "new" smell to my 2600, but the VCS carts always had a very distinct new smell to me, a mixture of the plastic from the carts and the cardboard used for the boxes. Once I opened a NIB trackball for the 5200 and got the same smell. Unfortunately, a lot of NOS games no longer have the same whiff of nostalgia. Also, opening new Star Wars figures back in the day, those had a distinct plastic smell. Ahhhh.... The nasty Book of the Dead editions of the Evil Dead movies was a totally different kind of plastic funk. Those particulates aren't particularly healthy but they do give me a rush of memories and emotions. Very true... I came across a new in the box Roller Controller and when I opened it up I to got that distinct scent/smell that I experienced oh so many years ago. -

NIAD replied to NIAD's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
Thanks for the info on these two games... don't know why I didn't list the TeleGames Time Pilot as I have pics of that one and seen it firsthand back in the day. Will add these two to the list. -

DoubleDown and I played around with BEWE once just to see it. The graphics really are amazing, it's a shame it's a kids game. Tempest It's a shame Coleco couldn't have weathered the storm and kept producing new CV carts and ADAM software as the programmers (in-house, outsourced and independent) were really starting to push the system after having gone thru the necessary learning curve. If only.....

I know... my mailbox is full... planning to solve this soon

Try this link: http://www.showmecables.com/viewItem.asp?idProduct=2912&utm_source=google&utm_medium=merchant&utm_campaign=15-302-003R We used to use up to 6' ADAMnet Cables so up to 7' should be fine, not sure if you can go any longer without causing problems.

TeleGames Reproduction Cart Shell Identification
NIAD replied to NIAD's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
Wow! Seeing all those pictures, even if they are older, of CIB ColecoVision games (and I'm not talking about all the TeleGames repro clamshells) makes we want to consider changing some of the rarity ratings as we don't want to inflate the prices on these anymore than they already are! -
Any further corrections, updates or additions?

Thanks for posting the answer to Daniel's question re. the name and thanks again for creating such a fun game to play... even after all these years I'll load it up every so often and have a go of it! BTW, did you ever receive anything for the ADAM version from Extended Software Co./Image MicroCorp?

Las Vegas Craps by Al Roginksy No Extra Hardware Requirements This weeks submission is a pretty faithful (I assume since I prefer poker) rendition of craps. LVC is a self-booting game that includes a very detailed, built-in instruction/tutorial on how to play craps... or should I say what all the different bets are and how to make them. Back in the day, the author even included with the purchase of his game a small book on how to play craps. Sorry for being late with this for all those who follow the Game of the Week... weather was just incredible here in the Midwest. Las Vegas Craps (199x) (Roginsky Games).zip

Cool! Thanks a lot for taking the time to list out the Product # for these titles as I haven't been fortunate enough to come across the boxes on some of the ADAM items. Keep'em coming.
