  1. This was on my want list for a long time. Then I saw how much the 5.25 floppy drives sell for and I changed my mind. Its still intriguing to me though. This looks like a good deal as others have said.

Just get yourself the Adam Drive Emulator (ADE for short) by Sean Myers which uses SD Cards and disk or data pack image files. They are made and sold by John Lundy and he can be reached on the Coleco Adam Facebook page... $145 shipped.

Then you can take your time looking for a good deal on an actual Adam 5 1/4" FDD. They sometimes show up on eBay as BINs for low prices because the seller doesn't kniw the value or can't test properly.

  2. Aside from the fact that you would prefer an internal option for the AY-3-8912 sound chip, have you seen the extrernal version that chart45 has already designed that is detailed in this thread:

    http://atariage.com/forums/topic/285129-missing-sound-chip-for-adam-computer/?hl=%2Badam+%2Bsound+%2Bchip&do=findComment&comment=4159023

Not all ADAMs are created equal and can play SGM games sans AY sound output without the Opcode SGM connected. I have one that will and one that won't.

  3. Using J5 (Slot #3 the Memory Expander slot) will be an issue for a most ADAM users who already have a 64K, 256K or 512K Memory Expander in that slot and there are a lot of 3rd party apps and games that require expanded RAM. I understand full well that using J7 (Slot#1 for IDE, Serial or ADAMLink Modem) is an issue especially for those with the IDE Interface and CF Card by MicroFox, but it's easier for me to live without the IDE setup versus Memory Expansion especially with the SD Drives (VDD and ADE) that are available.

Have you considered the side Expansion Interface although that would eventually lead to wanting to have a case for it like the AutoDialer or Opcode SGM.

  4. Hello Coleco-Gurus!

I would love to buy a Coleco-Adam-Computer, but I only know ebay as a source, to find one of those holy grails.

Is there a good vintage-retro-computer-shop that would be recommendable...or is there a a collector here in this community, who would sell one of his second-adam?

    greetings from austria

    Helmut

Send MilliV a PM to see if he has a complete Adam system available. You can also reach him thru the Coleco Adam Facebook page... William Hicks.

  5.

The unit is PAL and so are the games.

To be honest, I have never played the NTSC Colecovision so I cannot really make a comparison.

But by watching at videos on Youtube, yes it seems to me that the PAL games are a little bit slower (50hz vs 60hz).

This Colecovision Module exists in PAL version only.

ColecoVision cartridges are universal... there is no PAL or NTSC specific programming in the game code except for some recent Homebrew releases. On the other hand, the systems are region specific and games will play accordingly.

OR..... a game in the list doesn't have the right developper? ;)

    DANG IT !!!

I like Pixelboy's guess of Necromancer since this game could have very easily been in development as a CV cartridge first and then part of the unreleased "The Best of Synapse" for the ADAM later much the same way that Choplifter and A.E. were originally developed as CV cartridges and then released together as "The Best of Broderbund" for the ADAM.

But based on your hint re. the naming issue between Sierra On-Line and Sydney, it could be one of these:

    - Apple Cider Spider

    - Jawbreaker

    - Lunar Leeper

    - Mr. Cool

Let's see, you said the game was obscure and after you play it more, it is fun, so I will say....

    Lunar Leeper

  7. Ikrananka... I garned most of the listins in the Unreleased section from years of stuff I had collected and then used various sources like the CV Faq and Digital Press to try to verify and or correct things.

Always meant to revisit this section, but never got around to it along with a lengthy list of other things i've scratched together from AtariAge and CV and ADAM Facebook pages. Work and family and all... five more years to retirement!!!

  8. This was an aftermarket patch to a weak spot of the CV... the controller ICs blowing when hot swapping controllers. It was first implemented as part of CV Delta PCB in the Stand Alone ADAM Memory Console.

This fix might have been performed by Honeywell or some other service center.

Anyway, none of the CV board revisions left Coleco with this fix implemented as far as I know.
