  1. Received this parcel today: eBay Auction -- Item Number: 3505088206651?ff3=2&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&item=350508820665&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]

Wow! This can get a nomination for "deal of the year"!

On my side, yesterday I got my NIB ECS. The price I paid was pretty good, I think ($150 shipped) but, to my horror, the ebay sender didn't wrap it at all and all stamps, "fragile" stickers and USPS tapes were applied all over the original box!! I'm carefully trying to remove as much as I can but the box is severely damaged by now :_(

I'm not going to leave this as *NIB* anyway (I'm going to open it on Christmas) but still...

  2. Just bought an ECS off ebay and I'm very curious about it, but I don't have any ECS games in my collection yet: I'll make it one of my collecting priorities for next year, I guess ;)

Is there any website with listings of ECS programs and games to type in? Yeah, I also used to do that back in the day with my C64!

    There's this collection.

Thanks! There are some nicely commented examples among those games and it's definitely a good starting point to learn about making games with the ECS!

  4. Hello all,

I finally decided to AV mod my 4 switch 2600 which is showing some RF issues I couldn't fix otherwise. I got a AV board and I'm ready to do the soldering but I am a bit concerned about drilling holes into the plastic case for the AV jacks since I know it may break if I use the wrong drilling bits.

Many guides don't seem to give specific instructions on this and simply suggest for a standard (for drilling metal surfaces?) 1/4'' bit while I found a few references suggesting Forstner bits (for drilling wood?) instead. Unfortunately, though, it doesn't seem easy to find the 1/4 forstner bit around here so I was wondering if it is actually worth the trouble to order one off ebay.

What are your experiences on this? How fragile is the 2600 plastic case? Do you think drilling a first small pilot hole (with a 1/8 bit) followed by the 1/4 hole with a new bit will make for a safer drilling? What sort of precautions can I take to minimize the probability of the case to break apart? Or am I just worrying too much and I'd simply proceed in drilling those holes?? :P

Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

  5. Thank you, Secret Santa :D, or should I say roberto XD

Yep, I guessed it'd would have been difficult to maintain anonymity with a parcel coming from Singapore :P ! Actually, I'm surprised it arrived so fast (a Swiss colleague told me Customs over there are getting more and more strict and I was afraid it could have been delayed, that's why I shipped it so early).

Anyway, hope you enjoy the 2600 game and the DVD. the cart was originally from Australia while I picked the latter at the Tokyo Game Show: while I don't think it has any collectible value, it surely isn't something you find easily around there! ;)

    Merry Christmas!!

  6. Ah! So you are now in Oakland! last time I checked it looked like you were going to rent a good place in central San Francisco... what happened?

By the way, I was trying to follow you on twitter but I noticed someone blocked my account (#rdillon73) from following you like if I were a spammer!? I really wonder why and, honestly, I'm a bit upset, considering also all the money I donated at your booth during GDC in San Francisco this year!

  7. When I was a kid, I remember seeing a story on the news about Sony forcing a restaurant to change it's name because it was called "Sonie's". Maybe you should stop buying Sony products, too.

More recently I remember reading Nintendo forced a dentist in Sweden to change its clinic's name from "Wii" to something else.http://kotaku.com/5238434/nintendo-forces-swedish-dental-surgery-to-change-name :?

Anyway, regarding the "Scrolls" thing, I didn't like the lawsuit either but I will be buying Skyrim (with or without scrolls :P ) on day 1!
