  1. imho, it is really pity. a part of the nostalgia will be gone. It isn't a secret that I never liked the Coleco packaging template, be it the box, manual or label. They all looked cheap IMHO. But before I go further, a little story for you: in Brazil is very common practice that record companies release music compilations of several artists and band under a "compilation series". All those compilation series follow the same rules; they use templates for the packaging, place a stock picture of the artist or band in the cover and never get input of the musicians about the selected tracks. If you are a music lover or simply a fan of some of the bands, the whole thing just looks atrocious. For some reason the video game industry decided from the beginning to use templates for the packaging. I suppose that had to do with making the products easier to identify. On the other hand it took some of the artistic focus away from the games themselves and put it on the brand or platform. The computer industry in the 80s was somewhat different though (and I think still is), in terms of how they saw packaging. As early as 1984 most large soft houses were getting away from those templates and releasing games in beautiful packages. Now let's look at the music industry back in the vinyl days as an example. We had those large and nice covers with space for cool illustrations. They didn't follow a template, the full cover space was dedicated to promote that album, to grab the consumer's attention and sometimes create something that complemented the music inside. But there was also some standardization, for example the size of the covers. So just by looking the cover you could tell that was a record, and if it was a LP or single. What I am trying to do is to give the game artwork some more room to breathe, to put more attention on the game and less on the brand or format. All the information will still be there, the box is totally unique, the size by itself will make it clear it is a Super Game Module game, and will give the game more of a collector's item look and less of a cheap mass market product. And don't worry, it will look vintage, I am just not following any of the templates set by the video game industry in 1982. Hopefully you will agree once you see the final result, I have my fingers crossed. I am sure the template was run totally by all the accountants that said they could save a fortune by standardizing the box with printers and limiting the amount of creative resources they would need to develope each box.
  2. Yeah I can't figure out what channel for all my dvd players that I can't get to work anymore, anybody want to buy them as is
  3. OOHH sequels!!!!! I would like the Sequel to Burgertime whether it is the Intellivision Diner or a new thought up Sequel A sequel to Venture what would really be cool is a new version with a ton of different and exotic rooms but I guess a totally new concept could be cool as well.
  4. I would vote for Joust big time, I used to play the atari one all the time until I finally got a copy of the colecovision one. I love the colecovision one but without the sound it just doesn't feel right. I never really played games in the arcade I just played them on colecovison so I didn't know about all these missing screens and things like that. There is one exception, I played Dig Dug non stop when my parents took us to Vegas to visit our grandparents. They would bring cups of quarters to us and we would play arcade games while they were gambling. AHHH the good old days when parents could leave their kids and not worry about predators. I kinda hate the one on colecovision mainly because it is not very responsive when pushing the buttons to blow up the guys.
  5. Definitely pretty cool but not $500 cool, I emailed him to ask where he got it but haven't received answer back yet.
  6. No kidding, when I saw that one kid with his thumb on the controller knob I couldn't believe he could be any good that way. His thumb must kill him when he is finished. Plus it is always fun to see someone play goofy(lefty for all you non snowboarders out there)
  7. Think of how amazing you will feel when you are done! The more frustration the bigger the excitment when finished! I wish I could have gone to AdamCon to see your current beta release that Jim showed that would have been awesome.
  8. My bad Yes, you should have received the quick start bonus. I have corrected the Jumpan final scores as well as the Leaderboard shown here in this thread. I'll be more careful in the future. Thanks for pointing out my error - if anyone else spots anything wrong then please let me know and I will correct it. Hopefully, I will get better at this as I progress. Thanks. I have a suggestion: Adding the players that are eligible for the quick start bonus in the first post (after the 3 day deadline). Besides the work that Ikrananka described, if you put the score up right away after 3 days you have to remember to take it down if someone beats the score.
  9. That is awesome!!!! I can't believe they had you guys playing on those tiny tvs. The crowd probably can't even see you guys playing they are just standing back there for nothing
  10. Just looked up the ebay listing. I still don't know how I missed it, maybe it was in the haze of a bunch of other loose cart listings around it and I just browsed right over it. It looks pretty good and if the guy tested as working, I am sure if I knew about it I would have ended up doing this auction since I always get in my mind that I will never see it again on ebay. Let's just say I would have put a higher bid and would have won. Then we would have seen exactly how high it would get. Oh well, wake me up when a CIB goes on ebay and then the fun will begin
  11. I never saw this auction however it is so rare that I think I would hold off paying the big bucks for a CIB. I haven't seen anyone have this one either. Although pixelboy says that he has gotten a couple and they end up not working so that would suck to pay that much and have it not work.
  12. You really know how to make a guy cry huh!!! Now you have Daniel selling things and magic carpet rides of picture purfect Donkey Kongs.
  13. Once you get a trackball you'll see how much nicer games like Centipede, Slither, Space Fury, Star Wars, Subroc and Omega Race play! HMMM interesting! I thought Star Wars really really sucked big time when I played it and wondered why anyone would like it after playing it. I was however using the controller and not the roller controller.
  14. Starting off with one I have never played before. This should be interesting. I will give it a try and see how it goes
  15. Frantic Freddy / Mr Do's Castle Actually with the latest ebay happenings I would have to say Mario Bros/ Ghost 'n Zombies would be the rarest and most expensive.
  16. What is with all the Kmart Blue Light specials going on in this forum? You guys are CRAZY! Hopefully they go to a good home and not a flipper who resells.
  17. I am sure it is probably stupid people. There are LOTS of them in the world. They probably did a search and said oh these things go for a lot of money and then didn't pay attention that the ones that went for a lot of money had boxes.
  18. By the way, I think my posting screwed the guy that screwed this guy over because most of them were bought by an id of w****a and then 1 or 2 were bought by a different id so hopefully my post messed the buyer up.
  19. I am kinda laughing now This guy screwed himself over twice. First he sold all those games loose 5 yrs ago which lost him a lot of money. Then he just made a deal with someone and lost a lot of money AGAIN!!!! Some people were just born on the wrong side of the bed
  20. Wow I totally missed that they were buy it now. They are all gone baby. I hope the lucky winner gives me a gratuity I emailed him and asked him where they all came from, he said he sold all the games loose about 5 yrs ago and that these were boxes that when he got the games he immediately flattened them and put them away back in the 80's. I informed him that he screwed up and could have made some good money like the last ebay sale because a few of those lots had very rare games in them.
  21. So now I am worried. Did someone figure out how to create colecovision boxes? Where the heck are all these colecovision boxes without the games coming from? They all look like they are in awesome shape too. Is this the same guy that sold the other boxes I didn't check that? EDIT: I looked up the old one and it is not the same user id for that old ebay sale of a bunch of boxes Examples eBay Auction -- Item Number: 320721672032 eBay Auction -- Item Number: 320721663263 eBay Auction -- Item Number: 320721662629 eBay Auction -- Item Number: 320721661827 eBay Auction -- Item Number: 220807111602 eBay Auction -- Item Number: 220807110521
  22. Mario Bros sold like gangbusters and is on the Colecovision SD so I would hope everyone has that one. I guess if people only use emulation then they wouldn't have it but then it will force them to buy a coleco We can always also do a post before we decide to do a homebrew and see home many people have it before we decide to play it.
  23. Mario Bros Time Pilot Honorable mention JacobZu7zu7 took my idea for Lady Bug, I always loved playing that game and trying to get all the letters.
  24. eBay yes, but it was actually back in March (I had to go back and check). There was a second CIB copy that also sold around the same time as the one I bought. That explains it, I was kinda outa action in Feb and March. Oh well eventually some more will sell
  25. You are a machine, I do not know where you get all this time!! Luckily we benefit from this, thanks for all the hard work.
