  1. I'm looking to buy one of these carts for the 2600. I found 2 on ebay that are both from Australia. One says that it is PAL format, the other does not specify. Question - was Double Dragon released in North America for the 2600? Follow-up question - will PAL 2600 games play on a 7800? I know that there is different hardware required to play Nintendo PAL carts, but does anyone knw about the 7800?
  2. I just looked at the serial number of my 7800, and it's not even on your list! Anazing that they would make so many consoles in so many different ways - did they not think that any of their small tweaks from unit to unit might cause compatibility issues?
  3. That's great! Thanks for the info! I'm not at home, so I don't know which serial number my 7800 is. It for sure won't play time pilot, and Burger Time loads, but the character will only move to the right of the screen and nowhere else. Funny that you did not have a problem with Burger Time. Again, thanks for the info!
  4. Anyone have an issue playing Time Pilot on a 7800? I bought 2 Time Pilot carts from a local store, and niether of them played on my 7800. He took them both back, and even he couldn't get them to work on his in-store 2600. I just chalked that experience as two broken carts and moved on. I recently bought a Time Pilot cart on ebay, and IT TOO won't work on my 7800. I think three is a bit of a stretch to look on as conincedence, don't you think? I've yet to have issue playing a cart other than this. Could it be that Time Pilot doesn't play on the 7800? I couldn't play Kool-Aid on my 2600 Jr., but that is a documented case of a cart not working on a particular hardware. I also cannot get Burger Time to play on my 7800. The man will only run right and the game stops. This has been noted by a few other gamers as well. But does anyone know about Time Pilot issues?? I only own a 7800. I don't have a 2600 or a 2600 jr to test on also!
  5. Yeah, I figured it out! Thanks for the marketplace tip!
  6. Working Zellers Freeway cart for trade. Cart lable is in prestine condition. If anyone is interested in trading for it, please let me know. I am looking for the follwoing 2600 carts - Time Pilot Snoopy Red Baron Gremlins Tapper Pete Rose (7800 or 2600 version) I know that if you go by the rarety guide from this site, I am offering a '4' and looking for either a '4' '5' or '6' in return, but I am a cart player. Condition of the lable is not that important to me, and I am willing to overlook the condition of the cart so long as it is 100% functioning. If anyone is interested in making a trade, please let me know. Also, I am located in Ontario Canada for those who would like to factor in shipping price before you consider a trade. Thanks for looking!
  7. Thanks! I was planning on moving the entire first post as is. I wanted to copy and paste and take along the photos, but now there isn't an option to 'edit' the post. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

    Zellers?

That explains it a bit. But I wonder why they changed the names of just a few? I wonder what the reasoning behind leaving Freeway as Freeway, but changing Defender to Earth Attack, etc. Okay, so if there is anyone who is looking to trade for a Zellers Freeway cart please let me know. It's available.

    Zellers?

I found a Freeway cart in a thrift store. The cart looked nothing like my Activision Freeway cart, so I shelled out the $2.99 for it. On this site, it says that this was a Zellers cart. I am Canadian, and Zellers stores still exist, but I do not recall anyone having these carts back in 'the day.' Were they ever released in the U.S.? Do U.S. collectors actively pursure these? Also, is there any difference between the Acitivion Freeway and Zellers Freeway cart beyond the lable? Finally - HOW COULD THEY GET AWAY WITH SOMETHING LIKE THIS? As far as I can tell, they are the same game!
  11. Actually thought about launching the ball and quickly switching to the paddles. Honestly, the paddles seemed great! The game recognized that left pad button controlled left flippers and right pad button right flippers. It's a shame they didn't just add one extra line of code that both buttons together also operated what would be the 'down' motion on the joystick. Couldn't imagine that it would have taken that much longer even back then!
  12. Is this hack available as a cart or a rom?
  13. Really? Then why the picture on the front of the cart with the guy using the paddles I wonder?
  14. I recently bought Midnight Magic. I played it with the joystick, and then noticed that the picture on the cart had a guy using the paddles. I connected the paddles, and while the buttons operate the flippers nicely, I can't launch the ball. This was done by pulling down on the joystick. I thought that maybe the paddles were to be connected to controller two and the joystick connected to controller one (like GI Joe), but this didn't work either. Anyone know for certain?
  15. As has been mentioned before, whenever you open a sealed package such as that, you must stick your beak in the box (quickly, before it dissipates) and pull in the 1982 air. So I did just that, and it gave me a rush! I heard Blondie singing, had a flashback to seeing E.T. in the theater, and Ozzie Smith showed me his World Series ring!
  16. I just received my track ball in the mail today. I bought it on ebay sealed in package. I had never used one before, since I am juuust not old enough to have fully experienced Atari during it's heyday, but I'm more than making up for it now! I tried it out on Centipede for the 7800 and 2600, I played Missile Command, Millipede and Crystal Castle. By far, Centipede for the 7800 was the game which responded to the track ball controls the most. Missile Command was a close second however... Still, it's hard to resist giving the ball a big old 'spin' in order to quickly get your character all the way to the other side of screen similar to how you would with an arcade track ball. My track ball doesn't seem to work that way. You really have to push the ball down when you roll it in order for the sensors to pick up your movement. If you do it like that, it actually responds pretty good! The manual is hilarious! "If you spill liquid on your trackball - Get it serviced right away!" Atari must have known they made a very temperamental peripheral device! So, other than the 5 games I tried, are there any other 2600 or 7800 games that work well with the trackball?
  17. Sounds good - where can I track down a Beef Drop? Ebay I imagine? Anyway, I would like to find a 2600 and try out the BurgerTime cart that I do have. The 'pause' function works just fine, but I just can't make the character move up or down. Pepper button works fine...I imagined that BurgerTime might have had difficulties on the 7800 the way Kool-Aid man had trouble on the 2600 Jr. and such, but it doesn't look like anyone else is having issue but me!
  18. I just bought a Burger Time 2600 cart and tried to play it on my 7800. It was frozen, however when I played with the difficulty switches, suddenly the enemies moved and the background music played, but when I played with the difficulty switches further, things 'slowed down.' Anyone know if Burger Time is a fickle cart for the 2600? Or perhaps is it just my copy.
  19. How many issues of JoyStik were there? I had never seen an issue before I saw the above post which included a link. Thanks very much for that! I'm surprised that there isn't a wikipedia page devoted to JoyStik magazine.
  20. That is exactly what I was after! Thanks so much! http://www.atarimania.com/documents-atari-2600-vcs-books_1_2.html
