wow...even worse than i thought then.

without going back and reading the response, it sounds like one big thing that was left unclear by mike is how he got the snes jr in a jag from sean. did this guy mail it to him? did he meet him in person? did sean give it to someone else to give to mike? did he look into the mailing address if so? i dunno about everyone else, but if i were paying thousands of dollars to a dude and didnt have an address or any tangible info, and then he mailed me...a snesjag, and i were getting on a flight to go across country with this thing taped altogether..well, i wouldnt be praying that the thing held up. i wouldnt be concerned about that, i'd be more concerned about tsa and not being able to give them a definitive answer as to what it even is that im carrying along with me and/or getting detained by airport security for a long duration of time, because that thing looked sheisty even if it did properly do its 'job'. if he was concerned it was going to be functional by the time it got to the toy fair, well whether tsa tore it apart or us, its not like SOMEBODY wasnt gonna do it. did mike think the tape was holding the cores in? did he feel like a smuggler on that flight? did he get a second opinion about that fake proto #2 from any of his peers? did he even care that he had no idea from a technical standpoint what was going on with the machine, when he was going to a toy fair to...show off the technical aspects of the machine? any questions that i might posit to myself in any of this leads me down different paths of quasi-stupidity, trying to hold out hope that in some way mike was simply too foolish or naive to question what he was paying all this money to this guy for, and i cant let myself give in to pitying this dude anymore. even as he comes here and explains himself, i cant even force myself to read it because i keep coming back to 'its gotta be cut and dry to make any sense', with three scenarios being the case: that he was either fully complicit in all of this, or he fully knew he was taking a ride and somehow wanted this guy to take advantage of him because he wanted to be able to once and for all bust him for past stuff done to others (and im sure we'll get to that later), and then the latter sentiment being 'he is simply oblivious and has a childs mind, there is no rational answer here'. i cant imagine that a man who would want a project like this to succeed would go so far out of his way to fuck it up under his own volition.

im not buying the sean robinson thing at all. after all this crap, we are being led to believe that mike sent multiple checks to some random guy that he had no info on? after all that has happened with this thing, we are supposed to take mike at his word? that he was so foolish that he let someone rip him off and make him look like a fool and we are supposed to believe it? seems awful easy to say 'oh, this guy ripped me off' without providing any actual proof, and the other dude no matter what isnt going to defend himself. if theres no proof of what he's saying with that, then its as good as a total lie as far as im concerned, and this is the same kind of crap that got mike in trouble in the first place, making stuff up and providing no proof. dont buy it. dont even read it. this is so ridiculous at this point that i am wondering what he thought he had to gain by not taking this crap to the grave with him.

frankly im surprised he even had the nerve to come here and post after saying nothing sooner. im not going to read what he wrote, but did he say whether or not he showed anyone else the hicap proto pics before showing em to the world? what a hot mess.

it seems pretty paltry of him to try and takedown this video, given his association in the entire fiasco is well documented via google and plenty of articles. does he seriously think he can scrub himself from history like that? there was a time where i considered him a guy with a modicum of intelligence...after this, not so much.

hey carl, good on ya for hitting all those points! i would say thats very much fair enough reasoning behind all of it. let me also say this, i think if mike were to consider it, that it would at least show goodwill to the subscribers and fans that helped make the magazine happen in the first place, rather than no explanation and no word at all after the whole cc snafu. i guess he sees fit to bury his head in the sand but it buried the mag even further. i went to the retro magazine facebook page at a few points, and there were a lot of people asking a wide variety of questions with no answers. you would think that he would have been invested to answering their questions based on the things he was saying during the campaign trail for the rgvs and cc. hell i just went and theres at least a few guys here saying they havent gotten their latest issue yet. oh well, at least kevin bow got his. maybe they'll eventually get em. i think your desire to keep these very people in mind is really great and honestly, if there are no other writers for the mag, it makes sense to try and do this. assemble a few more staff writers like yourself to release the last 2 magazines, and in the 2nd one you could conduct some sort of readers poll to draft new writers for the future. i guess i was maybe a little bit concerned for you when i first heard, but i think theres actually a lot of things you could do to turn a negative into a positive with those last 2 issues.

i didnt think it would be a merger, but in acquiring that ip, he would also be acquiring all the bad juju that comes along with it regardless of who is involved. he would be acquiring a name, a name with no credibility to it. the taunting makes it much worse and much more storied, given carl was just about the only person mike lashed out at in this whole debacle.

the biggest question i have is this: why would anyone want to do business with mike at this point? given his track record, he seems to have invariably fucked up any business he's come into contact with. with that also comes damage to all who worked with him, as we've seen by people jumping ship off the magazine. put it this way, you dont see anyone jumping ship from gamegavel, and maybe its because noone else is involved. thats mike's mother business, so to speak. to associate with his brand or any branding would also be forever associating yourself with mike, and who wants to do that? maybe if those writers didnt jump ship, there'd be something to that ip. retro magazine has a bad rep, one well earned based on failing to deliver what was paid for as well as being light on substance, its well documented. this is due to mismanagement that damaged that name over a protracted period of time. so by absorbing that, you'd basically be admitting there was worth to that ip when it has been proven by the community there is not. its the same mistake mike made many times. i think if this was gamester81 or somene else trying to take the reigns who wasnt as proficient of a writer and as thorough as carl is, maybe it would be a different story. perhaps through hype and acceptance after pleading with the public, someone with at least some sort of positive association to mike could get it back on track. otherwise, even putting deliberation toward possibly gaining ownership of the mag, i dont see how that would even be possible otherwise given how mike is. i fail to see how the acquisition of retro could do anything but discredit carl's work, create a negative association, and potentially distance people from supporting the sum of the whole effort.

its a lizard eat lizard world. i feel you tho, thats the problem with hype these days. hype used to be a tool, now its a front to elevate something which inherently knows it has little to no substance. and hell, for $10 a shirt he'd probably sell thousands. for $25 a shirt, he's making himself into a capitalist at best. either way, its his dime and time fabbing up that chameleon and not selling the reaction in the actual video as much as he could have. why not go all the way with it and put the snes board in the shell and run some final fight on it. that would have made me laugh a lot.
