Discs of Tron > Tron Arcade, IMO.
That's why I own a couple DOT environmentals

Oh, I'm right there with you. When I was younger, an arcade with Tron was awesome. An arcade with DoT was better. An arcade with both, and the DoT environmental? Best.
I just figured I'd have an easier time of it with the original rather than Discs. (Since each Tron minigame is basically a slightly altered clone of an existing game.)

I'll toss in two cents, and say that as one of the people with a complete 7800 collection - even after I owned all the retail releases, I didn't call my collection "complete" until I had all of Bob's games. They're THAT good.

I haven't read the recent issues in this thread. I can only confirm that there will be a second run of Another World. This is not coming as fast as I could have hoped but it will come. More news in the next months... Please be a little more patient.
Waiting as patiently as possible.

Just for the record, I tend to use "driving controller" and "paddle" interchangeably. Either way, if it's possible, then I'll keep plugging away at it.
Just for the forumgoers, don't get your Photoshop fired up and start making labels and mock up boxes.
I have scant little free time to devote to this, so it'll basically be a hobby project for the majority. Wouldn't want anyone disappointed. -
Confusing topic title is confusing.
Been gently farting around with an idea in my spare time, but before I got too far with it, I wanted to ask if something was even possible. (and if this needs to be the programming subforum, be my guest at moving it)
Basically, everybody likes Tron arcade. If you don't, yes you do, stop lying. The nature of the unique control setup obviously made this a difficult, if not impossible, game to bring home.
Anyway, spare time I've assembled some rudimentary prototype "holds a pro-line and a paddle" rigs, and also thought about just straight up building a new controller that combines the two but leaves the button more accessible, etc.
Aaaaanyway. Before I get too deep into the software (only just poked some general stuff, fiddled some sprites, nothing serious) I wanted to find out from those more experienced than me: Is there a way, using the second player port to basically have the game think that it's a two-player co-op? Ideally, one port is a stick, one is a paddle, and bam, an Atari replication of the stick and dial setup of the arcade.
I mean, obviously not ideal, but the best that's ever going to happen, really. I just don't want to get myself started only to find out the whole idea powering this won't work. I can't really think of any reason why it wouldn't work, but I figured I'd ask before getting any further along.-

Yeah, I agree, I feel like I just replied to this topic. It could probably be safely merged with the "games that should have been on the 7800" thread. (If the forum setup supports doing that.) Otherwise, I'd just be saying "Pac n' Pal and Gaplus" again.
-
If they haven't been mentioned yet - Pac & Pal, and Gaplus.
Hell, I've spent the last 30 years wondering why the C64 (and only in Europe) was the only home system to get a port of Gaplus. Every other game in the Galaxian series saw a home release, usually on every possible system of the time. Always seemed odd to me that Gaplus never came home.

Oh, crap! Did I miss out on the ability to get a non-XM version of this? Crap, crap, crap.
Double crap, because I both love Bob's work, and Adventure Island/Wonder Boy is a series I literally own every game for.
Edit: Wait, less crap. Didn't see the post above mine. Woohoo! -
I assume I so badly missed the boat on this, that there's no way I'm landing a copy, yeah?
-
Already replied to the PM, but just gotta say, this. Looks. Fantastic. Fresh off modding my 7800 for composite, too. Can't wait!
-
Yeah, I was afraid the prices I were seeing were normal. I've been keeping an eye out for a while now, but it's looking pretty rough. We don't really have any local classic game stores, though. We used to, but they were all Play 'n' Trade which is sort of infamous for ripping people off, so they went outta business here pretty quick. (That'll happen when you try to sell bare 7800's for 100 bucks, and loose Super Mario Bros 3 carts for 34.99, though.)
-
Bob! I keep throwing my credit cards and dollar bills at the screen, but nothing's happening! I MUST GIVE YOU MONEY FOR THIS.
I've wanted Frenzy on 7800 since playing it on Colecovision at a friend's house, way back. If there's a list, put me on it! If there's a place I throw money, show me where it is!

-
Very sad I totally missed the boat on this. Didn't even HEAR of it until it was too late. Shame, one of my all time favorite games, too.
-
Well, I play my Jag fairly frequently - and I've been told that thing comes in handy for games like that, and for Towers II. Primal Rage, I hold no illusions, I doubt I'll have that one. Just too much money for a game that's fairly similar to the SNES version.
I was more asking if $70ish is *actually* the fair and current price. Like, outside of the obnoxious eBay inflation.
-
I don't believe any games actually NEED it, but I know it's useful for some games. However, are the prices people sell them for on eBay REALLY what they're going for? Is it really so rare as to be a $70+ controller? I just feel like eBay might be overinflating it this time, but I dunno. Never much looked into the Pro Controller until recently.
Not sure I can justify it to the wife or myself, haha. Barely got away with spending that much on the player 1 and 2 Justifier pistols for Genesis.
-
It generally goes without saying, but I'm saying it anyway: Sign me up if/when this becomes a cart!
-
If I recall right, Robot Tank is one of the (very few) 2600 games that won't work on every single model of 7800. They were very possibly aware of this, and put the label on there to cover their butts.
-
Yeah, I'm aware for what it sells for, and I'm also aware for what it sells for new from the stores that carry it. Shrug. Had wanted to keep it within the AA "family" as it were, but I'll just have to get it elsewhere. Songbird or Telegames directly, I suppose.
-
Really? Nobody?
-
Things I don't care about: Box, manual. Things I care very little about: Label. So, if you've got a copy with no box, no manual, and your dog ate the label, and you can't seem to offload it - I'm your man.
I'm not trying to get this to resell, or anything like that. I've wanted to play this (on Jaguar) since I first saw it on a flyer from 1-800-GO-ATARI.
I have a few odds and ends I can offer as far as trades go, but likely nothing anyone here'd be interested in. (Like a CIB 32X Blackthorne, for instance.)
I just can't afford a whole huge fortune for this one, so keep that in mind when making any offers. Either reply here, or just pop me a PM with how many monies you'd like, and we can talk.
-
You could post a thread in the WANTED section of the marketplace here. That's how I acquired my copy of Towers II.
Indeed I could, but I don't want to end up wasting people's time if they come to me with a price beyond what I'm reasonably willing to pay.

I think I got it!!!!
I was sitting in the bathroom
and I thought about taking all seven x and y coordinates of each shot and moving through the entire object list only once, checking against the x and y values of each shot. What makes this easier is I only take the tip of the shot, so there is a single set of x and y coordinates for each shot object to check against.
I need to try this.
Thanks,
Bob
The great throne of thought! I've gotten a few scripting epiphanies for Morrowind in there.
Well, in my bathroom, not Bob's.

TBH, it seems really odd that Telegames charge VAT on *anything* because you have to have a turnover of £80,000 or so to be VAT-registered and a single person doing those sales in his spare time seems quite bizarre. You can voluntarily register for VAT if you like, but who the heck woudl do that? It adds so much hassle. Be interesting to find out.
It is pretty curious, all things considered. So far my odds don't look the most favorable, though. Blah.
-
Songbird is backordered, but sells it for $119.99 (wait is usually a month or two)
However, Telegames does list the price without VAT ($66.66 + $11 Shipping - about the same as the songbird price)... You might want to email him because there should not be VAT charged on an international order. I would hazard a guess it gets refunded after the fact.
Yeah, I emailed Carl at Songbird, he said maybe end of summer or later.
Yeah, dunno on Telegames, it doesn't list it without VAT for me. Even went ahead and made an account that listed me as in the US to see if that'd help. Then I tried moving the transaction all the way to the last step before it's a finalized order, and the charge never came off.
Like I had mentioned to someone in a PM that was talking about this with me, probably going to eBay a couple of my Sega CIB's that I'm not terribly attached to, try to absorb some of the impact of paying this much for a single title. Normally wouldn't go to this much trouble, but I love RPGs, and as far as I know, this is the only true one on Jaguar. Must have it.

That email actually fails on any attempt to send to it. :-/
