  1. I'm a bit late here, but this is a little disingenuous. Used sales are more lost profit to developers than piracy, by a decent amount. The internet isn't the enemy of game developers, it's Gamestop. The industry doesn't like to call loud attention to the fact, but the numbers don't lie. Resales hurt worse than piracy. All told, the only thing I can weigh in on this topic is, was marginally interested in the concept of a 2600 Star Castle, and due to reading through the entire thread, am now completely uninterested. Nothing personal, I assure you. I'm sure you put a great deal of work into it. Given the way the community tends to flow, when it comes to homebrew stuff, plenty of other authors have released their work as binaries, and that hasn't seemed to hurt their sales one iota. Roms are all well and good, but to gamers, especially classic gamers, nothing beats the feeling of slapping that hard plastic cartridge shell into your 70's faux-wood console and turning the dial to channel 3, and playing the Atari like it was meant to be played. Of all the people that claim they might download a game to see if they're interested in buying it, the people on AA are the ones telling the truth. We're talking about people here who have spent untold amounts of money, amassing entire complete system libraries of physical carts, boxes, manuals, and more. I think it's a bit insulting to assume they'd all run rampant and 'steal' a product. Chances are, all the people that would want it, would have gladly paid for a hard copy of it. This isn't some forum full of reprobates and lowlifes. The people on Atari Age are good people with a true love of this hobby. That's really all I have to say on this subject.
  2. Pretty much like the topic title says, my Jaguar CD no longer spins discs. Nothing catastrophic happened to it, it wasn't being overused, or really, used that much at all. One day, went to fire it up, nothing. Checked to make sure the head wasn't popped down and all that, and still nothing. It turns on, still acts as a pass-through for cartridge games, so I know it's otherwise working. Any ideas, or is it time to replace it?
  3. This really makes me wish I knew more about programming for the 7800. As it stands, the most useful thing I can do is make sprites, which, really, isn't all that useful. By the time I could learn enough to be effective, Bob could have made the game three times over, I'd think. Definitely wouldn't mind having a complete Pac-collection, though.
  4. Very true. I know that in the arcades it ran on the same hardware as Super Pac-man, and Bob's shown that can easily run on the 7800, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch, I figure, to do Pac & Pal.
  5. So, so true. Sometimes I'd just like to grab and shake a few people, screaming at them: "OLD DOES NOT MEAN RARE". I've seen people label NES carts of Super Mario Bros. 3 as "VERY RARE HTF [email protected]@K RARE" I mean, seriously? Blarg.
  6. I was thinking that'd be the case. However, like Rex there says, I don't know that there's any real demand (I mean, sure, I'd love it, to have a complete pac-ollection), and, I would have no idea how to program such a beast. Which, even if I did, might be a lot of work to please, you know, 2 people.
  7. Oh? I've never really looked to see if there was demand or lack thereof. Did someone do a poll or something to that effect to see? I was just curious from a hardware perspective if it could be fairly easily done. I wasn't aware if anyone wanted or didn't want it, or whatnot.
  8. Given the fact that it's been shown (and quite well) that every other Pac-family game can run on the 7800, would there really be anything preventing this game from also being made to work on the 7800?
  9. Dear AA Store, I miss you, please come back. Love, Me.

  10. I'm going to definitely agree with whoever suggested Time Pilot, because I sunk so much money into that game in the arcade that it was somewhat obscene. Also, Frenzy, because if one wants to play that at home, one has to have it on Colecovision, and I know the 7800 could do it justice. Also seconded to Marble Madness, and Pac n' Pal, simply because that would then have the entire "Pac Family" of games on one machine. Finally, Sinistar. Love. That. Game.
  11. Sometimes, your best bet if you're trying the 'bay is to adjust your search to international. (If you haven't already). Since these weren't sold in the US, (at least as far as I know), international sellers are far more likely to have them. I got a pair for 15 dollars, shipped, from a guy in Spain sometime last year, via eBay.
  12. I had no idea you were reconsidering the Ballblazer donor cart thing. I had mentioned my interest in a Pokey standard version waaaaay back when this was first brought up. I would definitely love to do that, as I do happen to have a spare here. . .
  13. I just checked back on this on a whim, and saw some fine words. Words that said "I'm considering taking donated Ballblazer carts". This piques my interest greatly, as I happen to have both interest in this game, and a spare Ballblazer. I'd love a copy of this, and have no problem donating my spare for it.
  14. Oop. This is a duplicate, because the first didn't appear right away. Ignore/delete/etcetera.
  15. I commented on this one a while back, just wanted to say again, I've given this game a few tests, and more than ever, I'm very interested in a copy.
  16. I really doubt that was the intention. I agree. "Trolls and XM naysayers" are hardly "people who simply aren't interested in the XM." It is more than a little disingenuous to suggest otherwise. Not as such. To be a naysayer, is, basically, to express a negative view. That can range from disinterest, to directly saying you hate it, to saying you don't care. Anything that's not praising, really. With how small the homebrew community is for the 7800, I would personally think it in poor taste to do anything to break it into pieces, or "us vs them" it in any way. But that's just me.
  17. I own all of Bob's Pac-family games, and they're stellar. I have yet to pick up Space Duel/Asteroids Deluxe/Space Invaders/Failsafe, but have every intention of doing so. Frankly, even though I have all the retail games for it, I won't consider my 7800 collection truly complete without those four. Truly excellent work.
  18. There seems to be some concern that I am actually leaving the 7800 scene. With hindsight I should have worded that post better because I'm not. Anyways... The trolls and XM naysayers can just F right off. All my games will be XM mandatory from now on. Even the ones that I've previously announced that work on the stock console have all been upgraded to be XM mandatory too. XM owners are in for some real treats in the coming months. It's a bit harsh to tell people who simply aren't interested in the XM to "F off", and it's more than a little uncalled-for.
  19. I know it sounds like a bizarre request, for the most common 7800 game, but. . . As it stands, PP2 is the only game in my complete 7800 set that doesn't match. At least, aside from the Activision/Froggo titles. I've ended up with more than a few copies of the game, but the only silver label I've gotten is unfortunately marred with a sharpied-on name. I don't feel like playing the eBay lottery and hoping one of the boxed copies is the silver label, and not the white label. So I was curious if anyone had a spare for sale they wouldn't mind parting with, in order to make my collection look a bit more uniform. I don't need a sealed box, I don't need a box at all, or a manual. The cart itself is fine.
  20. Would love a copy of Halo 2600. Looks fantastic.
  21. This. All the sellers complaining only have other sellers to blame, not eBay. If so many sellers hadn't insisted on outrageous shipping charges (seriously, people know what Priority Mail costs for a small parcel, and it's not 20 dollars), and/or fee avoidance via exorbitant shipping, this wouldn't have happened. Same with the fiasco over the feedback change. Sellers holding feedback hostage resulted in sellers being unable to pass out negatives. At the end of the day, eBay is more concerned with buyers, as they're the ones who will end up with more loss if they get screwed. If a buyer screws a seller, you still have the item if they don't pay. If the seller screws the buyer, a lot worse can happen.
  22. Oh, it was also eBay, but, I just happened to search right after someone listed one (literally about 15 minutes after), and snapped it right up. Just arrived today, so I may get around to taking some pictures of the full set.
  23. Tank Command get! At half the price I expected to pay, no less. Good thing I held off on getting one of the 100 dollar copies on eBay. With that acquisition, I now have the entire 7800 retail library. Now, when that store comes back up, I'll work on acquiring Bob's Space Invaders, Space Duel, and Asteroids Deluxe. . .
  24. My Time Pilot also has issues with my 7800. I'd have to check the model number later, but it doesn't roll or even attempt to load, just varying flat color screens.
  25. Yeah, it appears as though I acquired that one entirely by accident. I never made a specific effort at it. The Absolute titles, I don't have the boxes for any of those.
