I've said it before, but I'll say it again.
I got my original 5200 on a summer day in 1983. I had just graduated 7th grade. That day I went to see Return of the Jedi for the first time. It was fantastic. Directly after that I went to K-Mart to buy my dream game system.
You've never seen someone so happy to be playing Super Breakout.
I milked every bit of goodwill I could to get myself games that summer. I played a huge amount of Defender, Qix, Star Trek, Star Raiders, Pole Position, Baseball, and Football.
My stepdad and I would play games of Football against each other and wager a dollar on each game. Then I discovered the awesome play 2-5 and won nearly all the time.
With Baseball, I'd move the centerfielder down directly in front of the batter to cause instant outs and irritate the piss out of whoever I was playing against.
I showed off Defender to all my friends and they would immediately not care about the Colecovision anymore, because Defender was so damn awesome. I was such an Atari fanboy back then.
Star Trek and Star Raiders were my personal starship Enterprise to roam the galaxy in.
I probably drove enough around the track in Pole Position to reach Saturn at least.
And Qix? I remember I used to play on Expert and usually give up at 500K, but I think my high score was in the high 700K or so. I played the holy shit out of that one too.

How come there's sub-forum HSC here for SMS,NES, PCE, when we have a whole HSC forum were they are again?
http://atariage.com/forums/forum/85-high-score-clubs/
Why is there HSC sub-forums for all ATARIs except ST?
And there are no O2 nor Vectrex HSC.
And why is the Sega Genesis sub-forum between O2 and Vectrex, when it should be underneath Vectrex.
The things I worry about....
The sub forums listed again are exactly that. They're just the same forums listed again. It's just a categorization thing. That way if you're a 5200 fan you have a link to the 5200 HSC in the 5200 section, but if you're just a broad HSC fan then you have the same forum linked in that category too.
As for why there aren't certain HSC forums, then the historic answer is simply that no one has demonstrated any interest in HSCs for that platform. An HSC needs someone to run it and some interested participants. Cross that hurdle and other parts will follow.
Why should the Sega Genesis forum be underneath O2 and Vectrex? Admittedly, I don't see anything to their order other than the date they were added, but what order are you suggesting?

Depending on the day, I'd answer either Pac-Man Collection, Astro Blaster, or Frenzy.
-
One of the XLs. The DSi was OK, but it's not worth playing any of these on the "regular" postage stamp sized screen of the non-XL models.

Knowing Vic, the UMD release of Summon Night 5 will probably be after even that one you list.

The fighting game kick continues.
I just picked up Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late. Why? Cuz all the girls in it fight in high heels. Hawt.
I think I had considered getting this when it was new. I don't remember for sure. I do know that for some reason I had categorized it as a visual novel. The actual reason why I looked at it again was because I was looking for a visual novel to check out and ran into this one again. Another reason I might have skipped it was because it looked like a Guilty Gear or Blaz Blue game, and those two had specifically turned me off 2d fighting games several years ago.
Under Night is a lot like Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax. I imagine they're by the same developers (I haven't actually checked). Both have very similar menus and options. They even have the same semi-pixely look to the fighters. The feel very similar too. Whereas Fighting Climax uses fireball motions for practically all special moves, Under Night has more input variety. I'm a of a bit mixed feelings on this, because I just want to pick up and play games and not remember move lists, but it's not too bad.
I know I've made a lot of snide remarks about modern fighting games that feel like 16-bit fighters. But I have to admit that quality is what I really like about all three of the fighting games I've picked up lately. They don't feel hyper obsessed with technical play to the point where just learning to play the game becomes a chore. I can spontaneously play these with a friend and not have to spend half an hour relearning the game every time it's powered on. I don't feel like I'm locked into a single character because of everyone having vastly different and idiosyncratic move lists. This one is probably the least pick up and play of the three, but it's still within tolerance levels.
So, yeah, it's pretty fun. So far, I like Eltnium. She's fun to play.

Game Title Appears
Demo Screen appears
Press action on left controller, game starts
I score 20 points per hit on the red smiley and one point for shooting the wall. I decide to rack up a high score by holding down fire next to a wall.
I hit pause. Screen changes mostly blue and starts color cycling. Game is paused.
Unpaused by hitting action button on left joystick. Continued shooting wall for mad pointz!

Almost tempted to go in for this one based on the novelty value being through the roof.

From level 1 regular my top score is 61,711.
And if I just keep on continuing from the last checkweb I passed, then I've scored 276,603 after starting from level 31.

This isn't game related, but this is something I saw the other day that irritated me.
Someone I know wants a toy of the VF-21/22 from Macross Plus/Macross 7. Their birthday is coming up, so I decided to look and see if I could find a good quality 1/60 scale Yamato release on ebay from a seller who didn't look shady as under an awning at midnight.
One auction caught my eye because it was about the price range of the item I was seeing, but just a little bit cheaper. It had a stock picture from the Yamato 1/60 box of a Macross 7 release. I checked the auction out. After a bit of reading, I realized they weren't selling the transforming toy.
No, they were selling a "custom made and painted wooden model".
There were no pictures of this "custom wooden model". There were only pictures of the packaging of the Yamato toy release and of the Yamato toy. There was no room to doubt that they were trying to mislead someone.
Scams like that really piss me off, because there's an extra layer of maliciousness there. I mean, they could have just pretended they were selling the toy and never shipped anything for their rip off scheme, but these people have gone that extra little mile to put their scam in small print to try and trick someone.

The one Thing in defense of CAPCOM that I already explained, is the fact they made very clear before release what was going to be in the game. They didn't hide it. But the lack of USB Controller Support, The online issues and the always online Features are not excusable.
I still understand that the average gamer that buys the game without having researched will be enraged at what's available. It's not what's expected. It's not even half the game, and for People interested in single Player it's basically no game at all.
Still, I was playing Arcade Mode yesterday for SFIV, and it's garbage. And for the competitive online Players the model with free updates is actually better. Not to mention any Problems can be quickly patched, and game rebalancing can come more frequently as People realyze there is the necessity for that.
Just to remind People, many SF games have some characters so imbalanced they end up being banned in tournaments. In less extreme cases what xyou have are 3 or 4 characters that make up 90% of competitive Play beacuse they'Re better than the rest. These Problems will be minimized with this model.
So there are actual Advantages to what's being done. I have no doubt People who are looking for single Player Content shouldn't buy this game. For online Players the always online isn't going to be an issue. But for People who want to Play offline, why do they Need to connect to a Server? That's bullshit.
So, don't even pretend stuff like this is a wide release game.If this is all about e-competition, Capcom should start some league type bullshit and charge people a fee to be in it. Then those people are the only ones that get these types of game releases, since they are the only ones "enlightened" enough to truly appreciate them.Dispel any illusion that they are releasing games and own up to the fact that they are only supporting an e-sports model.-

While browsing Amazon the other day it recommended a Knight Rider K.I.T.T. vs K.A.R.R. slot racing set. In addition to simply geeking out over the existence of such a thing and thinking about how awesome that would have been to me as a kid, I remembered this thread.
That's it. I guess that doesn't have much to do with this thread.
So I guess it's on topic.

I'm late to the party. I don't have anything to say about controller support.
All I want to add is that Tempest on the 5200 is absolutely freakin incredible. It's the best arcade port on the 5200, and it has some damn stiff competition. I'd say it's the best adaptation of Tempest to anything, beating out even Tempest 2000.

I sat out the NES generation because I was more interested in computers at the time.
There's very little of merit this generation from my POV. The Xbone is actively offensive to me. Despite one or two titles I'm interested in, the WiiU is a piece of shit. I will probably eventually get a PS4, but I feel no urgency to do so.
In terms of gaming, I have a huge library, so there is no urgency to chase new games like I have in the past. My purchasing habits have changed from buying new release games at full price every week to occasionally checking what is on sale or is cheap because the title is past its newness date. Instead of constantly checking out which games I can pre-order for launch, I find myself browsing GoG's on sale games.
I find I'd rather spend my money on my other hobbies than support modern gaming nowadays.
Recently, I considered buying a PS4. Instead I bought an Arcadia Macross VF-0A figure and a Bandai Chogokin DX YF-29B Perceval figure. I can't say I have any regrets about my decision, and that's even after the leg of the VF-0A fell off and needed repair.

Uhm going through steam comments it looks like they agreed/decided to release earlier exclusively for tournament fighters, who are after all a big portion of their clientele.
From my POV, this is the biggest problem with fighting games. It's a cancer on the whole genre.

I decided to pick up Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax since I'm in a fighting game mood lately and it has a sub-$20 price tag. I remember skipping on it at launch because I had no idea who any of the characters were (they're all from various anime I don't watch) and it just didn't appeal at $40. But in the past four months this one has dropped in price like a stone.
For a $20 game, it's pretty damn good. It feels to play a bit better than Nitroplus. It's extremely accessible to someone like myself who doesn't want to study movelists. And even the obsession with meter management isn't too annoying.
I was a bit disappointed with the character graphics. They're a bit pixely, but I got used to it.

Fighting Vipers 2
I always wanted Fighting Vipers 2. But like most things that looked interesting to me on the DC and Saturn, Sega figured it wasn't worth bringing it to North America.
For a while I tried to score a European copy off Ebay. I finally won an auction on one and the seller never communicated with me. So I gave up.
I've played it in emulation. It looks like I probably would have liked it had I had it sometime around the year 2000. Now it just comes across as yet another fighting game.

Loved Soul Calibur back in the day. But there really hasn't been any reason to play it since Soul Calibur II came out.
Likewise, I loved Dead or Alive 2 back in the day. Then I got Dead or Alive 2 Hardcore on the PS2 and never had any inclination to mess with the DC version again.
I had Last Blade 2. Tried really hard to like it. Never fully succeeded.
Picked up Project Justice due to the recommendation of someone I used to talk to a lot on IRC. That was a mistake. I didn't like that one at all. I was trying to rekindle a little love for the DC and that game killed that idea dead.
I used to really like Garou. I played it again not so long ago and couldn't see what I used to like about the game. It just strikes me as dull now.
My friend had one or more King of Fighters games on the DC, but I always preferred to play them on the PS1. Playing them on the DC always felt bad because of the controller.
Never really played any of the Capcom stuff on the DC. I was pretty much over and done with Capcom at that point.

EGM was basically shit for reviews.
That said, I picked up Herzog Zwei complete with box for $5 or less when Blockbuster (remember them?) was getting rid of all their cartridge games. I've never been able to get into it. I see people talk about it like it's this fantastic game, but I just don't see it. I like the concept, but the execution falters from where I'm sitting.
I didn't get to play Military Madness until it hit the Wii Virtual Console. I was fairly excited at first, but then... Well, it's kind of boring and bland. Admittedly, I didn't play it until long after I played games it gave inspiration to, but I just didn't think it was that good of a grid wargame sort of game. It's OK, but I'd rate it as more of a 6 than a 9.

I bought Nitroplus Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel.It has Ignis from Jingai Makyo in it. Although I don't know what her source game/visual novel is like, I think she looks cool and already have multiple figures of her. So that made this game an instant novelty purchase. It's the first fighting game I've purchased in a fairly long while. I like it. It very much feels like a 16-bit fighter or a 2d PS1 fighter, and that's what I'm in the mood for right now. -
You need to change to "keyboard mode" to register the "1" keypress...hit F9
Thank you. I knew I was missing something like that.

I'm trying to use Virtual Adam to play some Buck Rogers Super Game. The game boots fine. But then I come to the screen which asks me to hit 1 for one for one player and 2 for two player. No key or controller button I press seems to register.
Regular Colecovison games like Atarisoft Defender will start when I use the number keys, but it doesn't seem anything Adam specific (like Buck Rogers Super Game or Dragon's Lair) recognizes any of the number keys or numpad keys. Although the typewriter does register the number keys (but not the numpad).

Since this thread has been quiet for a while, hopefully this won't be a threadcrap.
I first played Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for the Xbox 360. This occurred during the very brief window when I was worrying about Achievements in games. I decided I was going to get 1000/1000 for that disc. That meant I had to fulfill some requirement on Mean Bean Machine. I think it was "complete the game" or something.
I now LOATHE Mean Bean Machine. There are games I will never play again, and Mean Bean Machine is one of them. I know it's a common hyperbolic statement to say that you'd rather die than do something, but if an armed crazy person came into my home and told me that I could either get killed immediately or have to play Mean Bean Machine again, I'd have to seriously think on that choice.
I really hate that game now. Even thinking about it for this post makes me want to punch something. It makes me sick just the merest concept of it. If Sega set out to create a game that just makes people violent by the merest thought of it, then they succeeded beyond the wildest hopes with Mean Bean Machine.
To hell with that game.

What're some good RPGs on the Game Gear?

The Shining Force games are pretty good. I've never played them on the original hardware, but I've played the ports of them to the SegaCD.
