Admit you are wrong on the number of POKEY channels available when you use two for bass otherwise you are looking particularly dumb. You might as well post your Xenon mock-up while you are at it. GroovyBee If you make 2 channels play the same note (a bass note), with a little pich different to make it sound fatter. Why can't you use the other two channels as well? When you combine two timers to make one sixteen bit timer (one timer clocks the other one) that leaves you with two timers remaining and not three as you posted earlier. Or what are you talking about? In older games it was common that they used 2 channels to get the sound fatter. They tuned them to get a kind of chorus effect.

Hmmmm more thin than pokey, or are you telling me my stereo amplifier is damaged? And no I do not use cheap speakers. Can you give some examples of things you're using to compare? The thing with SID is it's capable of a huge variety of sounds and is well know for being fatter (or is that phatter) for bass sounds. It all depends on what envelopes are used, what waveforms, what filters etc. I think POKEY sounds a little more powerful and more "machine like" but I wouldn't say SID is thin unless that's what the musician wanted. Pete Well okay, I have to say to the best in following way : The SID just sounds not as powerfull or thick as the pokey does. I know the basssounds of the SID are good, very good!, but when you combine the soundchannels of the pokey you also can get fat sounds (bass). And I do not believe what many people say that pokey is NOTHING compared to the SID...pokey is capable of so many sounds many people just do not know. I have both the c64 and atari xl and I compared games, demo's and also simple programming those machines a bit and I notice the difference I said. Yes Indeed the c64 does have amazing bassounds, but I already learned from the Roland Juno 60 and JX3P that more possibilities (before looking any further with programming) not always mean fatter or thicker or more professional sound. I had a JX8P in the 80's. A synth with some real fat sweeping sounds. SID have a very special sound. Either you like it, or not. SID sounds very much "SID". Pokey also have a very colored sound that simply sounds pokey. When Pokey is in tune in the hands of someone who knows to program and make great tunes, it can sound real good, like most of Greyscales work. SID is a mixed bag of candy too. Sometimes SID sounds very good and sometimes downright miserable depending of what SID is used for and who's behind the keyboard. When you use two channels for bass, Pokey can sound very fat too, and if you do, you still have three channels to make music with.

Don't feel sorry for that. I was just taking a break from Atariage and actually managed to recover my password. The idea with this place is to have fun and to discuss retrogaming, like you said. To tell you the truth, i'm more the typical ST guy and owned a ST for many years. You can download new A8 games, but can you download new ST games too?

Against my better judgement, I'm going to flat out say deletion is not required at all. Just relax some, enjoy the tech, the people, and all is good. Again, it does not have to be this way. Yep. It's beyond me. It would be much like a color blind person, or one that cannot see good detail, arguing with others on "best" machine, based on it's monochrome and low resolution attributes. And if you don't like a mess on the screen? With a green colour so overdone that you'll notice it a mile away. And the same colours game after game after game? Where dark brown is truly horrible. How you can prefer that computer...is beyond me. C'mon, you know that my posting wan't serious. I was a bit upset because you answered the humpty dumpty. The guy who just sneak in to annoy.
