  1. Hi there, thank you for your assistance with this, giving Atarigrub some pointers has helped out a lot! I appreciate your time and effort!
  2. Hi Atarigrub! Thank you so very much for that. It was really kind of you to take the time out to do that for me. Much appreciated, and if I can return the favour for you then please do message me and I will see what I can do. Thanks again!
  3. That would be awesome thank you, any help is appreciated. Just let me know how we can sort it out and if there is anything I can do for you in return?
  4. Hi there, yes please Atarigrub, any help would be great thank you. If I can find a way to convert from cas file to xex I could even play it on my side loader in my 800xl. Thanks to all replies so far. I know it's not exactly a well known game nor is it up there with Dropzone etc but I enjoyed it back in the day nonetheless.
  5. Hi All, Just wondered if anybody had a copy of this game they would be willing to sell? I would be very grateful if so. Please get back to me if you can help out with this. Much appreciated! Cheers Everybody and may 2018 bring you many hours of retro gaming fun!
  6. Hiya, Blimey! I really must check my responses a bit quicker! so a very belated thank you anyway! The game title was definitely Conquering Everest, however after looking at the PDF file of the game you suggested it does sound very much like the same game. Although the logo looks entirely different I must say. I can't find any info online about ASP software, apart from I believe they are from the UK and mainly wrote early RPGs.
  7. Hi all, I'm a big Atari fan and love my A8 and ST, and have had the same 2600 for 34 years now, however I could do with a little help with something more modern. I got a modded old school original Xbox for Xmas with lots of cool emulators running on unleash. However i would love to know where to get Atarixlbox and how to get it up and running on the Xbox, just for fun! I have a little experience with running emulators on pc but not done anything with Xbox as yet. I've heard of FTPing but no idea how to do it, so if possible I'd like to try and burn a dvdr instead and transfer it to my Xbox. I know this is a big ask guys but I'd really appreciate your help if anybody is kind enough to reply and get me started! Cheers all!
  8. Yes, apparently its very rare. I believe it was a tape only game, written in BASIC too I think. Its basically a strategy game where you manage a team to try and get to the summit of Everest. It's probably not as good as I remember - after all its not exactly Dropzone or something like that but if I can find it that would be cool.
  9. Hi all!, hope you are all keeping ok and still enjoying the A8 scene. I am coming here cap-in-hand to be honest, in need of a bit of help. I'm chasing after a game for Atari 8 bit called "Conquering Everest" , which I think is by Asp software. I cant find the title for sale anywhere (tried Evilbay etc), so I wondered if anybody has an .XEX file of it I can use on my side 2 cartridge and load it up that way. I know its not the world's most exciting Atari title but i did used to have it many moons ago and would love to play it again on my Atari. Thanks in advance for any help received.
  10. wow, thanks a lot for the feedback guys! certainly gave me plenty of options to consider, which is just as well as I have nearly completed the room now - so should have new carpet in next week and ready to get the Atari "shrine" set up again! Really do appreciate your help guys. Well done everyone! - but yes - I think its time we built up a database (or at least a large list!) of tv's which work and which Atari's etc have been used on them - def one for a stcky post I reckon! Cheers all!
  11. Hi guys! sorry I have been away for so long. Been moving house etc, and my Atari collection has been in boxes at my parents house. But all that is set to change soon as I tackle the decorating in my "Atari" room! The problem is I want to use a modern lcd tv on which to run my Atari's - So I can hang it on the wall out of the way. I own a Sony Bravia 26" in the living room - this tv is having NONE of it! - However I remember trying them out on a crappy NEON 19" tv I bought from Morrissons a while back and they worked fine. That tv is used in my main bedroom though - so I need a tv of approx 26 - 32" of size for the aforementioned "Atari room", have you guys got any suggestions as to what definately works? If it helps - I own the following - Atari 800xl (with ram upgrade - cheers "mimo") - running a monitor to scart connection Atari 2600 running standard RF (may convert soon) Atari Jaguar running standard RF - till I can afford a scart cable! Atari ST running scart cable Maybe we should start a definitive list of modern tv's (inc model numbers etc) which people own that can cope with old computer signals! - I heard Samsung's were normally good for this kind of thing? Apologies if I am going over old ground here guys (maybe the powers that be will let us post a sticky?) Cheers Atarians!
  12. lol - the XL has Mikes name on it - but dont worry - ya not missing a great deal - its not exactly a boxed minter! more a poorly donor!
  13. ps - that last message may read a little wrong - in a hurry to do tea and trying not to burn the kitchen down! lol! - the XL is for free obviously - just need to do a deal on the old woody
  14. cool mate - no worries Mike! - the XL has your name on it no probs - ya can buy the woody too if ya want it - dunno what its worth to a fellow Atarian though! Maybe we could do a trade on summat? WHY?
  15. I'd love one myself - White or black would be cool - think I'd go with black with blue backlighting though. Would be good if it was backwards ST compatible though - it'd have to have TOS as at least a secondary OS (is that even possible!) - hate to think of it as just another Bill Gates special! - then again, maybe that could be a way for Atari to fight its way back to the front of the mainstream and reign supreme again! Nothing wrong with a bit of fantasy eh! I def think that if somebody has got the technical know how they should at least build a few of these so-called "ST-2"'s and maybe auction them off - for charity maybe? Get Atariage put permanently on the map!
  16. cheers for the input Mike! nice one - hope ya keeping ok buddy. long time, no see! - Krylon Fusion eh? cool name - sounds like a death metal band! Hopefully catch you at next RCM - ps, have got a spare 800xl if ya want one - the one that we scapped off to rescue mine - its a bit pants but maybe make a good donor - keyboard is nice condition though - let me know. Needs a serious retro-brite session though - or a trip to B & Q! lol!
  17. Hi there - sorry for delay in getting back to you - must check my posts more often! - so, to answer your question. I removed the outer covers (of course!) - the badge I masked off with plain masking tape and a REALLY sharp blade (stanley knife type) - the little plastic "windows" where the led's are were carefully cut out with the blade too (dont worry - you can superglue these back in later - steady hand and maybe a pair of long nose pliers needed). As for the surface prep - not a lot really - clean the outside - I washed mine in the sink and left to dry outside in the sun (yes, we had a sunny day in England!) for an hour. Then I just "keyed" the surface a little with some "wet n dry" paper - not too rough, say about P800 or P1000 - then a couple of coats of the primer - maybe just half hour between coats on a warm day (it dried really quick) - then 2 to 3 coats of top coat - about an hour or more between coats - then left to dry overnight. Put the ST back together the following day. Its worth noting that I would leave gluing the led windows and removing the badge masking till the last moment before ya put it back together - and place the ST face down on a towel or similar to protect the freshly painted surface. Worth the effort though - I'm pleased with mine and a couple of months use so far and no signs of deterioation in the finish. Let me know if you have difficulty in finding the paint and I will try to help you - although I can imagine shipping to the US would be expensive and I dont know if you'd incur a import charge? We do in the UK if we import from the US - but I dont know about vice versa. Sorry for delay again, hope this helps! Grant
  18. funnily enough - this happened to my ST once - mind you I was punching the back of it trying to get my disk drive to work again, but a few good punches later, disk drive was working again, and once it had been reset a couple of times the screen was ok - cool! More luck than technical ability I'd say!
  19. Hi guys - hope all fellow Atarians are doing ok and enjoying whats left of summer time! - Just a quick one - I accidentally stumbled across some interesting pics on the net the other day (dont worry - just Atari!) - so here is a link for you guys - see what ya think - its only a mock-up, but hey, if one of us wins the euro lottery and buys Atari............ I know, I know - its a nice dream though! http://pichaus.com/[email protected]/ comments welcome please guys! Cheers all.
  20. Hi Guys, has anybody played Sinbad and the Throne of the Falcon? its an old adventure game for the ST. I remember seeing it in an issue of Page 6 sometime in the late 80's, and wanted to play it but only had an 8-bit machine at the time. There are a couple of copies for about £10 inc p & p on Evilbay, just wondered if its worth playing at all, or are my childhood dreams about to be ruined by a rubbish game? ha! Cheers for any input guys!
  21. cheers for the feedback guys, think I'll just carry on running it on my old CRT tv for a while, till I can treat myself to a bigger tv - I've heard Samsung are pretty good for running old skool stuff on? will test it on my mates Samsung first though! lol, or ask Currys if I can plug my ST into their display tv - sod it, if they want the sale, I'm sure they'd let me! ha! cheers again Atarians - some of the best people around!
  22. Hi Guys, cheers for the feedback, yes - I did nearly consider painting the function keys and masking off the tiny letters but in the end decided it was too much hassle and had a big potential to look poo! - in the end I decided on removing the keys and giving them a going over with some cream cleaner, "cif" - or "Jif" as is known to us over 30's! (apparently it was changed cos "Jif" is rude in another language?) - anyway, I divluge, it did make them look a lot better and the keys look worse in the photo than they really are. As for the retro-brite idea, to be honest, I know it works, and I've seen it when it has been done - looks a million dollars, but this ST was one that, for some unknown reason reacted badly to it when the previous owner retro-brighted it, and in fairness, he'd done loads before with great results, but yes, it went from tired looking to "patchy / blotchy" looking, so rather than risk trying to retro-brite it again I went down the route of painting - Interestingly enough, the same shop I got my paint from had some other colours that looked a good match for 800xl colours - and I almost went down that route, making a 8-bit look ST which I thought would be cool, the only major hurdle would of been what to do with the keyboard, though I guess I could of painted the keys and re-applied the correct symbols on the keys - mmm, maybe one day - sounds like a big job though!
  23. Hi fellow Atarians! hope ya all enjoying the summer holidays! After getting countless valuable snippets of help from you guys I finally have something to give back to the community! Sort of..... After recently getting my Atari ST1040 from Mick - aka Preppie! - I decided the outer casing was looking a little tired and discoloured, and I wanted to re-vamp it. Luckily the keyboard was not discoloured, so that made the job a lot easier! originally I was going to paint it in 800 xl colours and make it a bit of fun, but decided to go down the boring route and put the ST as close to original as possible (maybe I can pick up a cheapo tatty ST and give it the 8-bit treatment in the future? - will report back on that one!) - So, after perusing through countless cans of spray paint at various stores, I came up with a solution, see the attached pictures for pics of the spray cans I used. They are made by a manufacturer called "Rust-oleum" - and the variety I used was Plastic Primer - white matt finish, and Painters Touch - Stone Grey, Satin Finish. I found these paints in our UK hardware store - B & Q, so I dont know if our american and european friends can find the same paints locally? but I'm sure us fellow Atarians can help. After painting a couple of coats of each paint, then leaving to dry in front of the radiator, the finish was excellent and in my opinion, so very close to the original it'd take a bloody keen eye to spot the difference! I'd just like to add - I dont work for B & Q! lol! and the paints should be available in quite a few stores, maybe Evilbay? but B & Q is where I found them anyway! Also its worth bearing in mind that the job will only come out right if the paints are applied according to instructions! And all parts are cleaned and dried correctly prior to painting - paint dont like dirt and dust. Dont blame me for any bad paint jobs! ha! Unfortunately I didn't think to shoot pics of the dis-assembly of my ST but I'm sure that info will be on the forum somewhere anyway! So there you have it, hopefully it helps a few people with tired looking Atari ST's! Finally I should mention, dont forget to mask important areas, for example the Atari logo. The led covers on the facia (power on indicator and disk drive "busy" light) can be removed from the back with a sharp knife (carefully!) and put to one side whilst painting - its much easier than masking as they're so small its nigh on impossible! They can be superglued back in once the paint is dry - this is how I did it, how you wish to do it is up to you guys! Happy painting!
  24. Thanks a lot guys - will look into those titles - just out of interest - what is the magnetic windowing system? not heard of it. I heard Another world is a good game - although my copy dont work! - will look out on evilbay - is it just me or are the disks for the ST not as reliable as the old 5" jobs they used on 8 bit machines? 99.9% of my A8 stuff works - where as I'd say only 75% of my ST stuff works - mind you - most of it has come 2nd hand from the bay of evil! lol! - cant complain though - my last lot cost me about £15 and for that I got a box of about 50 games - about 40 of which are working - may offer the remaining ones for free to fellow Atarians to see if they'll work on other machines.
  25. Hi Guys - this should be a quickie, but I fear I maybe taking the can opener to the proverbial can of worms! - I'm looking for Graphic/text type adventures for my ST - you know the type - Level 9 did a few for the A8, wondered if they also did ST adventures too? or any other good writers for that matter? Hopefully adventures on the ST would have a bit of a better parser than the old "two word" commands of adventures on A8's - thats not to say A8 adventures were crap - some were awesome! So, any ideas folks? and also can you name and shame some stinkers too? Cheers all!
