Try cleaning the connector edge with a pencil eraser.
-
I wonder if the Harmony cart has any spare i/o pins the AVox could be hooked up to. It'd need 4 if you also want to use the EEPROM.
-
PCB's with sockets were in the AtariAge store, can't find them now though.
-
I have some of these overlays and can say they are THE best that have ever been made for the Vectrex. They are better than any of the previous repros and even the original ones.
-
From what I understood, AX will be doing both the construction and distribution. Doesn't matter either way, I'm just glad folk are building it and coding for it

AAMOI where's the best place to get GBA ROM's nowadays ?

bB AtariVox Support, Part 2... Basic Voice Functionality
Richard H. replied to RevEng's topic in batari Basic
I sent my remaining batch of USB interfaces to Glenn a while back, so hopefully either he or Axe will start sellling them in the future (I'll let Axe have the PCB and firmware files if he wishes to make those too). It's basically just a USB to serial convertor (based on the FT232R), but also powers the AVox and has the EEPROM wired through too. Any adaptor can be made to work. You would just need to steal 5V from the USB to power the unit. This is a good one. All the connections are easy to get at. BTW, if you double click on the phonemes in PhraseAlator, they are entered into the say data window. I find it quicker to make new words that way. -

bB AtariVox Support, Part 1... the AtariVox EEPROM
Richard H. replied to RevEng's topic in batari Basic
If it'll help, I can reserve all the pages after the scratch pad area for bB only games. That's pages $100 to $1FF -
AX, I hereby give you permission to manufacture / distribute the AtariVoxII . Any profits generated by the project are yours to keep.

The pinout you need for the cable is - base - GND middle - RX tip - TX There's no info on how the one in the link is wired, but I'm 99% sure it's the same. I acquired some commercial ones with the same wiring. Unfortunately, I have none left to send you.

Glenn offered to take over production from Albert (who took over production from me). I have no time to make them. Albert won't have time either, what with his arcade etc. We need someone new to take it over. Yes, of course Yes, anyone can have it, I'm not bothered. It's not a complex circuit. It's basically the SpeakJet chip, an amp, some filtering and the EEPROM. The AVox 2 PCB does have a microcontroller on-board for the VecVoice / VecVox modes though. But that is purely optional. The unit will work as a stand-a-lone AtariVox without it.
-
AFAIK Albert has no stock at all. I think Glenn is going to distribute the units he's made. After that, with Glenn out of the hobby, the AtariVox may die
-
Not bothered about the colour, just that it is new old stock. Thanks

About 50 hours. I took a look at 24 and there was no change. Some of the legs appear to have even more oxide on now I'm just wondering if it's worth buying one of those ultrasonic water bath cleaners.
-
The vinegar soaking did not work at all
-
I have one chip soaking in vinegar. Will let you know if it works by tomorrow (it will have had 48 hours by then).
-
The only thing I tried was jewellery cleaning fluid. The dip and strip stuff. It had no effect.
-
I was really hoping for a chemical method as I have about 400 of them to de-oxide
-
Bought a load of chips on EBay, the legs have a sort of oxide on them that won't let solder through. I've tried flux and tinning with the iron turned fully up, but it still won't stick. Scraping sort of works, but it bends the legs (surface mount) Is there some easily available chemical (acid ?) I can use to get it off ? Thanks

Why not get some 24 SOP to 24 DIP convertor PCB's like this
-
OK, I'm ready to start building them. If you want one, you need to send me a donor cart. That will guarantee you get a FlashBoy+, a sort of non-cash pre-order if you like. Contact me via this Email address. Thanks
-
Just to let folk know that I will be both making and distributing these from next year. I will build them on a one-by-one basis. This suits me much better as the carts are really hard / time consuming to put together. You will probably also have to send me a donor cart with the order. The current price is $120, but I'm aiming for about $100. There will be no box, just the cart, USB cable and drivers. (they EBay quite well - eBay Auction -- Item Number: 270672733744 I'll post more details next year when I've streamlined the donor case cutting / connector removing some more. Thankyou !
