I've not noticed that Yes, you're probably right BTW I'm building a TTS add-on for it, based on a PIC programmed with the original SPO256-AL2 algorithm, expanded to accommodate the SpeakJet's extended allophone set. The TTS chip is produced by Ken Lemieux of www.speechchips.com You'll be able to send strings of words directly from the Atari (etc), with buffering taking place in both units.
  2. It's the actual speed of the chip, serial EEPROM's are very slow compared with stuff like SRAM.

    Memory cards

    As a test of their usefullness, I've built 10 memory cards to give away. For those that don't know, it's the EEPROM part of the AtariVox, on a small PCB which plugs directly into the second joystick port of a 2600 / 7800. Or infact, with the appropriate driver, many other consoles and 8-bit computers. It allows non-volatile storage of high scores, system settings etc, and has a 32Kbyte storage capacity. So, if you're a coder, hacker or would just like to test one out, send me a PM with your shipping address. The first 10 replies I get, will be the 10 who get the cards. P.S. can anyone think of a better name for it ? Thanks...
  4. Have you seen MGD ?, the game does'nt slow down or blank the screen at all while the speech is playing. I don't mind, in fact I would be pleased if guys came up with alternative intro's. I did the default one in just a few minutes.
  5. The Speakjet already has a 64 byte buffer, the state of this buffer is detected through pin 2 on the joystick port.
  6. The Speakjet can do 2400, 4800, 9600 and 19200 As it's really just a PIC and operating from an internal oscillator, I would imagine 19200 was the highest reliable baud rate that could be achieved.

  8. It has very recently been discovered that the internal pull-ups on some consoles are not adequate when interfaced to a serial EEPROM. (doesn't affect the speech part of the unit) The addition of 2 x 10K resistors are required on the EEPROM for reliable operation - One between the SDA (pin 5) and 5V, and another between SCL (pin 6) and 5V. This has now been corrected on the next revision of the AtariVox. Sorry for any inconvenience.

  14. Yes, a good quality straight through connected serial cable is what you need. It will be available soon. I was going to wait untill sales of the AtariVox picked up (now that enabled games are released) and then judge the demand for the interface, which I would imagine, would be mainly bought by developers.   15. You might have to wait a little while because I'm holding out for our own case mold.
  16. With the SpeakJet utility - 'PhraseAlator', and my own software VoxPlay 1+2 All run on a PC connected to the AtariVox via my serial interface.
  17. No problem ! - I used a Griffin iMic to get a nice clean sample (my PC's sound card was feeding in some hum / noise) Are you coding for it ? Is that the model with the Votrax ?
  18. I don't sell them without a case, mainly because you can't just drop the PCB straight in (the case needs drilling and adapting quite a bit). Some guy's have been sending me cases from original games which I've used to case their VecFlash's, but I don't particularly like the fact that a game has to die

Not a problem, the unit plugs directly into the console The problem as I see it is with a new driver, and I'm not a coder. I'll put it past Alex (he wrote the Atari driver) If it can be made to work flawlessly, I'd probably build it as a separate pass-thru, as putting in an extra 9D causes casing problems
  21. I stopped making them when the supply of cart cases ran dry. However, with recent events, it appears this could be resolved soon. I'll stick the PayPal button back on my page when this happens. Thanks...
