so will the Atarivox work/play on PAL 7800/2600 downunder????Yes, as I live in the UK my 7800 is PAL also
BTW there's going to be a flood of AtariVox enabled games / hacks soon
I tell ya! I had so much fun programming the allophonic speech for my Pythagorean Theorem Proof program for the Vectrex!Hey Rob, how about an Atari version ?
That would be SO cool

Infact, you could use the Vectrex speech data, I could just send you the lookup table from my VecTrans chip for the conversion.

Thanks
I think I'll wire in an old PC PSU
-
I've got the console but no PSU
Anyone know the power requirements / pinout ?
Thanks...

Just thought I'd mention the AtariVox EEPROM Memory Static Allocation List (AEMSAL
)It's a list for programmers to reserve memory for their game.
-
Hi, I've just put the Static Allocation List onto my page.
If you are planning to code for the AtariVox, please Email me to reserve your memory space, and I will update the list accordingly.
Many Thanks...
-
Hi, just to let you know it has now been sold.
Thanks for your interest !
-
Selling my spare CC2 as I need some cash for dev work.
Immaculate condition with leads, CD etc
Open to offers ?
Thanks...

what is the hold-up on this baby's release?Alex is a REAL perfectionist - it'll not be finished until it meets his very high standards
That's why his games are so good
-
Mike, I forgot to ask - did you have a chance to try your circuit on the PAL 7800 yet ?
-
Remove the guts of one of those larger JAKKS Pacific joysticks and hack it into an AtariVox talking joystickThat's a good idea as there's loads of room in that base, you'll get a decent sized speaker in there.
When I get around to it, I'm fixing one inside my 7800

Just finished the final version of the AtariVox serial interface (see picture)
The board powers the AtariVox via a 6V-12V DC PSU
Allows a computer's serial port to communicate with the AtariVox for constructing words / sounds
Enables backup, writing or verifying of the onboard 32K EEPROM memory
(AV memory files can be edited using a standard HEX editor)
I'm sending one to Albert for testing, after which they'll be available from the Atariage store
The circuit uses no expensive components, so should be pretty low cost

If he can get a PAL version working. Even better!!!I want a PAL version so bad, I've sacrificed my spare 7800 for Mike to do some testing on.
I know it'll be worth it - the TV picture / sound I get at the moment is KILLING me

-
Here is the full cdNice one ! - thanks
-
Can someone please Email me the contents of the CC2 CDROM ?
I can't find my disk anywhere
Thanks !
-
a handy link to a cable to plug it into my machine? Are you in the UK ?
PM me your address

That first one didnt hum!!That's an extremely rare model.
I know of only one other (owned by a Dutch collector), it seems to be a late revision in the Vec design (perhaps due to customer complaints or something).
Yet ANOTHER classic gaming enterprise that gifts the shaft to Mac users!I'll supply the protcol if anyone wants to write a Mac driver for my VecFlash.
I'll even throw in a free cart
Seems like a drag that it isn't big enough to hold EVERYTHING though.True, but you can write new games to it at least 1 million times

-
was chiptalk a blast with your VecVoiceYes, it worked pretty good
Of course, the algorithm didn't do a 100% perfect job + the bad clarity of the SPO256-AL2 chip didn't help, but it was understandable speech.
Ken's SpeakJet algorithm will be MUCH better
-
will the atarivox be able to do that ? im thinking this might be a mod id like to put inside my 130xe and wire it in that way, will it be possible ?TTS (Text To Speech) could be done on the computer (like SAM) or using a microcontroller.
The CTS256A-AL2 was just such a microcontroller used with the old SPO256-AL2 speech synth. It contained an algorithm for the automatic real-time translation of English ASCII characters into allophone addresses for the SPO256-AL2 chip.
Ken Lemieux (www.speechchips.com) incorporated the same algorithm into his ChipTalk program. He's now working on an embedded version, which will use the extended SpeakJet allophone set.
Put this chip between the AtariVox and the console / computer, and it will translate text words into speech in real time.
-
in theory is it possible to use that device for atari 800 as well???Yes, it should work on anything that has a joystick port pinout similar to the 2600 / 7800.
The following pins are used in the AtariVox -
Pin 1 - digital (u)
Pin 2 - digital (d)
Pin 3 - digital (l)
Pin 4 - digital ®
Pin 7 - +5V
Pin 8 - GND
Take a look at Alex's driver notes, it should give you enough info to code a driver for another system -
-
Rob, have you got any pics of the AtariVox inside a cart - I'd love to see that
BTW Albert will probably be offering the AtariVox optionally cased, hopefully using the enclosure I showed you.
(I'm just in the process of finding out if they are available in the US)
-
I wonder if the AtariVox voice can be made to sound like the robots in Berzerk? These are done on the AtariVox -
www.vectrex.biz/Berserk.wav
(excuse the poor recording quality)
-
And I'm currently hammering out a new Atari 2600 music sequencer program that will use the AtariVox EEPROM to save sequences...Nice
BTW have you tinkered with the synth part of the SpeakJet yet ?
-
Just to let you know, future AtariVox sales will be handled by AtariAge not me.
This arrangement means it can be bundled with compatible games (like MGD) which makes a lot more sense (as Ianoid suggested).
I'm just getting my stockpile of built boards together to send to Albert, after which they'll be available through the AtariAge store.
Thankyou

I don't remember seeing that post by himIt's the 20th post down from the top -

Atari Speech Synth
in Atari 2600
Posted
Soon, I'm doing some work on it right now - it's all part of making the AtariVox as easy as possible for Albert to put together (as he's a very busy guy).
(PM me for more details)
