perhaps you could sell a multicart with a few of voice enhanced games on it with the synthAlex suggested bundling his game with the AtariVox + perhaps handing over distribution to Atariage (like he's doing with MGD)
-
any deal for buying both the Vec and 2600 voice products?Yes, I'm sure we could work something out
Care to create a software bundlePlease explain ?
-
need something else than these same 5 phrases on mgdIf you hang on, I'm making the AtariVox version of this -

It allows you to connect it to a PC's serial port, and then use this AtariVox friendly version of the SpeakJet util software -

Also the voice doesn't annunciate v's very well, they all sound like f'sIt sounds OK to me, although with most allophonic speech, your ears have to get used to it a bit.

do I have to worry about power problems running this on the 7800 with the CC2?No

I think the button should be replaced with the volume control
Looks like he's put black speaker felt over the speaker, nice touch
I must agree, it looks pretty cool

the AtariVox has an amp built inThe AtariVox's output power, when connected to an 8ohm speaker, is approximately 300 mW (with the Atari's 5V supply).
Doesn't sound a lot, but it's pretty loud.
I have mine connected to an un-powered speaker (like Alex) and never have the volume pot above half way.
-
I forgot to ask whether this will work on a 7800 as well?Yes, it works on 2600 and 7800
Now just need some tech docs for it...Alex has put together some preliminary docs here -

BTW do most people already have a Sega extension cable ?
The reason I ask, is that I only have a limited number of them
Could you specify when ordering whether you require a cable or not ?
Thanks...

The only thing I didn't like about the original VecVox was the lack of control over the volumeI don't understand
The VecVoice, VecVox and AtariVox all have / had an onboard volume pot
Did you get it direct from me ?

* Does AtariVox store high scores for any VCS game or just for ones that were coded to work with it?Games need to be coded, or existing games hacked to make use of the EEPROM
* Is there a case to house the hardware or does it just come as seen in the picture on the website? The AtariVox comes as a buiilt PCB (with cable)
* Where can I find a detailed description of AtariVox?It's based on the SpeakJet chip, so you'll get an idea of what the AtariVox can do by reading the datasheet -
-
They're ready now
I spent the weekend building a small stockpile of them

-
Whilst primarily used for speech, my SpeakJet-based AtariVox board (for 7800 and 2600) can also do sound.
Check out the data sheet for the SpeakJet chip -
http://www.magnevation.com/pdfs/speakjetusermanual.pdf
It's quite similar to the AY-3-8910
-
For anyone wanting an AtariVox, I will have them ready to ship by the end of this week.
I'll also put the ordering details on my page at -
www.vectrex.biz/new_page_5.htm
Thanks...
(Programmers - AtariVox to PC interface coming soon)

Will the Atarivox save the scores even when the power is offYes, for 200 years
(according to the EEPROM's datasheet) -
Did you base it on my dissection of AnimAction in 2000?Yep - sure did
You did a great job
One of these days, Mark is going to start making them. He's just waiting for the demand to be high enough - it never was a popular game
-
just an eprom no extra Ram like ArtmasterThat's AnimAction, Art Master never contained extra RAM
-
The part I'd be concerned about would be the timer PCB.I fixed Nico's timer, there really wasn't much to it.
It consisted of all easy to get components, nothing obsolete / custom.
The PCB could be replicated very easily. Infact, if someone wants to send me theirs to study, I could get some made.
It'd be cool if somone started making repro Mini-Cades in a kit form or something

-
I know what it is!
Does it sound great?
-
We've decided the on-board EEPROM is going to be 32K, doesn't sound a lot, but's it's massive as far as game-saves go.
Just seen the first AtariVox enabled game beta today

-
What ever happened to the Atari 2600 Voice Commander moduleWasn't that going to be voice recognition unit ?
-
Any prices yet? You'll be looking at $50 shipped, the SpeakJet chips are currently quite expensive at $25 each
-
I've tested the proto board and it works perfectly, so this is the finished design for the AtariVox -

(The EEPROM is in a socket for future expansion)
I'm getting the main batch of boards made up soon, so I need a rough idea of how many of you will be wanting one ?
Thanks...

The EEPROM-save is going into z26
Full emulation of the SpeakJet chip (in the AtariVox) will be hard, although a simple emulation with a set of fixed samples would work.
The SPO256-AL2 emulators that use samples sound OK (ish)
