The first problem could be a bad AY-3-8912
-
VERY nice !! Needs a bigger screen though.

http://www.revival-studios.com/photos/vectrexnews/3dengine2_640.jpg Thankyou, yes, 3D printed. I've been teaching myself CAD and the vectrex is pretty easy because it's just a big cube. Thermal label printer. I think that would be hard to model (for my skills), but I'd definitely have a go. AAMOI does a 2600 model exist ? (in .stl format)

This might be useful. Votrax SC-01.pdf -
It might be worth getting a solder paste stencil made.

It's a Microchip PIC. One of the 18F series. Obviously, the read protect fuse is activated (so the code cannot be read off the chip)

Glenn, I'm talking about the USB interface for the AVox. Did you have boards made for those too ?
-
Taking on the project. This will require - 1) Getting PCB's made 2) Soldering components 3) Configuring chips 4) Casing the boards 5) Making and applying labels 6) Selling / distributing finished units
-
Not yet. Been having trouble with TalkTalk. They took over my last internet provider and it's been crap ever since.
-
Just seen the chip on EBay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AY-3-8912-AY38912-AY3-8912-Sound-and-ADC-for-VECTREX-ORIC-Consoles-etc-/201128438488?pt=UK_VintageComputing_RL&hash=item2ed4306ad8

Does anyone want to build the interfaces ?. I can send you the PCB file to get some boards made.
-
Use it with the FT_Prog utility - http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Utilities/FT_Prog_v2.8.2.0.zip Avox_USB.xml
-
Extremely easy to build. FT232RL 2 x 100nF capacitors DB9 socket USB-B socket The FT232RL is configured through the USB once it's soldered in. I can post the config file here if anyone wants it.

You could try replacing the AY-3-8912. It's the sound chip, but also contains an 8-bit I/O port used to read the buttons on the controllers.

Happens all the time unfortunately One of my VirtualBoy repro's recently sold for $250 (I got $20 for making it).

I will be building some more, it's just finding the time. My Virtual Boy stuff (flash and repro carts) is taking a LOT of my time at the moment.
