Yes... Contra, the legendary run & gun first appeared in the old school Arcades in 1987, made it's way to the NES in 1988, and is a must have for any true NES game collector.

Spiffy has such a good idea that it should really be fleshed out with a background story, etc. It really needs it's own thread to gain the attention it deserves, and so that others can contribute and assist in it's development.

Anyone else having a little DeJa Vu about the Double Dragon topic:
Games that would be most improved by XM Music hacks
Just happened to be googling along and found it.

Are you just doing graphics or are you going to program it as well?
My programming skills are sadly lacking. And since I can't wrap my head around Assembly or even C++, I've given up on it and have decided to concentrate on graphics and sprites. See my 2600 thread over > here <

Wonderboy in Monster Land!!
This is my personal favorite arcade game of all time and I used to dream of owning the arcade machine. Let's see how far I get with the first Wonder Boy stuff, but this one is on my list.

I should have known this would happen.

What's cool about if Double Dragon were to have the XM Upgrade, is that the Arcade version used the same Yamaha sound chip as the 7800 XM. This was most likely the chip used for the music that all of us Double Dragon fans have still stuck playing in our heads from '87.

nice! Maybe some one can do better sprites on the accursed 7800 Double Dragon. :-)
That's for the hypothetical "Double Dragon for the 7800 XM?" thread.

Thanks! I always wondered how people make these ... seemed like a pain to recreate from scratch! Didn't know there were such sites.
Maybe someone could try a 1 level demo as a proof of concept with your sprites! :-)
That'd be sweet... I'll add a few more sprites and enemies to the finished pile first.

Sprite ripping has became something of an artform since MUGEN was introduced. That led in turn to demands for sprite sheets for homemade fighting games.
The great thing nowadays is that all you need to sprite rip graphics games, is the ROM, an emulator that has screen shot feature, and a basic paint program.
M.A.M.E... which I'm sure stands for My Arse My Elbow
Has a neat feature of displaying Tiles from an arcade ROM... BUT sometimes it can't display all of them (Wonder Boy is one). And I found a version of it that a guy modified to allow saving of Tiles, Palettes, etc. to BMP(s) over here: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=41610 This will make arcade conversions, I think, a little easier.Illya

UPDATE
Just a minor sprite fix in Wonder Boys' walk/run cycle, and added some of the other game sprites to the mix:
It's good practice.
The only down side is that I'm having to rip the sprites from the arcade version myself. I've looked in the usual Sprite Databases and scoured the internet looking for Sprite Sheets that contain ALL of the Wonder Boy sprites, but the ones that exist only contain a handful of sprites...Bummer.Illya

Hi,
Your duck design is very nice and would work well on the atari 5200 or 7800, but they aren't conforming to the color limitations of the 2600, specifically the single color per pixel line.

LOL "the circle."
Thanks again. It was fun, educational, and, like all practice, has sharpened my skills quite a bit.

Renegade has an interesting history to it. I'll give you the skinny on it... Having gone through a westernized conversion of the Japanese arcade game Nekketsu Kōha Kunio-kun, Renegade is deemed, "an immediate technological predecessor to Double Dragon", and, "is considered to be one of the most influential titles of the video game industry."
Hmm... I, personally, am not too sure about that last quote there. Good game yes, but... most influential? Oh well, it's not up to me to make that decision. That's up to the people to decide, and viewers... Like you... so pledge now and... Oops, wrong channel.
Anyway, all of the sprites are 8 x 30 pixels respectively. The extended legs and arms that are part of the Punching, Back-kick, and Jump-kick could either be programmed as the Missile, or perhaps another Player sprite(IF YOU DARE! MWAHAHHAHAHahahhahaha *cough* *cough*).
